Ever since her rather catastrophic (in Patience's head, anyway) conversation with Remus Lupin, formerly known as John, and the subsequent conversation with Fred, Patience had been quietly going about her routines, trying to recover from it all. She didn't want to talk to her sister yet, worried that it might seem too confrontational, or that Chastity might be more worried about making Patience feel better than telling her the truth. Not that she felt completely composed now, but she'd certainly improved.
She packed a bunch of sandwiches, and her most recent pie - a delicious spiced pecan - along with a thermos of cocoa, another of tea, and a jug of pumpkin juice into a picnic basket and folded a thick blanket for them to sit on over the top. She had also bundled up - it wasn't too bad in the sun, but still chilly when the wind blew - but that was partly for comfort, not only for the weather. She simply felt better with warm clothes on, surrounding her.
Chastity had said she would be a few minutes, so Patience took a seat on her porch swing to wait, the basket on the ground beside her. When King came up and nosed at it with interest, Patience corrected him and distracted him by petting his ears instead, and smiling at him. Even through this hard time, her beloved dog had been able to get a smile out of her. She was so immensely grateful that she hadn't hurt him when she'd broken loose on the full moon, even if he'd been a bit skittish around her a few days afterward.
