Chas lay in bed in Patience's guest room, the same place she'd been since Thursday morning when she'd woken up on her twin's couch after a night of sleeping under the influence of whatever Patience had given her. She hadn't moved since, except to put on whatever clothes it was Patience had handed her (a large shirt and some sleep shorts) and climb into bed. She hadn't eaten, she hadn't really done anything except sleep and cry, talk to Patience when she came in, or look in her journal. The latter proved the most dangerous; things she'd once cared about roused nothing but apathy in Chas, and other things set off her temper the second she read them. Namely, any mention of Barty. If she heard one single person say something against him, she swore she would find them and make them scream their apologies before she ripped their still beating hearts their chests.
Beyond that, though, she was mostly apathetic. She lay in bed, eyes squinted against the sunlight coming through the window from the setting sun. She didn't quite understand how it could have been so sunny today, so bright and cheerful when everything was all wrong. Her hand had pushed up the hem of her shirt to bare her stomach, and lying there Chas ran her fingers over her skin. She could feel the lines of the marks he had left on her, unhealed from the last time she'd been with him. She hadn't known, then, that it would be the last time. Her finger traced over a bite mark, feeling the ridges of where his teeth had bit into her skin to draw blood, and a single tear slipped from her eye to trail down over her pale skin. Barty... She let out a little whimper as her fingers continued to move, finding each little mark and remembering how he'd looked as he put them there; his body warm and solid above hers, his eyes dark, blood on his lips and his fingernails. She would never see or hear or feel any of that ever again, because he was gone and then she was crying again, hot tears spilling down her cheeks as she pressed her fingers to her skin and prayed for his marks to never fade.
She had forgotten already that Duke had wanted to come over. She forgot almost everything now, though, because she didn't care about anything. At least, not besides Patience, and the pain of the loss she felt. Barty, and Bayleigh too... everything was gone and she was broken.
