Getting out of jail had been happy at first. It had even been incredibly good just once the dementors and guards had gone, when Rose had started working on getting out of her chains and then trying to get out of her cell. And then - her friends had come! Rose had been riding on the high of having friends that had come to get her (no one except Justin had ever saved her before, and she still couldn't quite believe that he'd done that either), and being away from the terrible stone place with the awful people running it, until she'd heard the news.
Su, Kevin, and Dean. Dead. And hearing that had made her realize what else was missing, too. All her things, the food and the money and her wand and, no less important, the assortment of random items (all over the spectrum from possibly useful to simply sentimental) she'd hoarded over the years, were gone. They'd been confiscated when she'd been caught, and they were gone. As for her dog, she had no idea what had happened to him.
If she'd had her things, or at least her dog, she might have been able to hold it together. As it was, the sudden lack of things in her life had sent her on a frenzied venture out of the Leaky Cauldron and into Diagon Alley, acquiring things - a few coins, some ribbon, an apple, pretty stones. She stuffed them all into her pockets, and then went back to the inn to ask someone how to get to St. Mungo's, where Dennis and Colin were. She didn't see Justin anywhere; maybe he was already there. Or maybe he'd gone to ask someone about who else was missing. Rose wasn't sure she could handle any more missing things.
She was instructed to use the Floo, which was intimidating enough in itself - she didn't know how. At last, a very kind woman in the pub held her hand and stepped through with her (thank god she was so tiny, they could fit in the grate together). As soon as they were through, Rose was off like a shot with a thank you called out over her shoulder, searching the whole hospital until she found the right room.
"Colin," she said fervently, as he was the first one she saw, and flung herself at his bed. She was a little bit more careful when she climbed up onto it, aware of the fact that he was hurt, and tried to hug him without hurting him. "You're here." She'd half expected that he wouldn't be.
