Zach had spent plenty of time thinking about ifs. Back in school, it had always been what if Cedric hadn't died. That was still a common one to go back to. It had been the first moment in Zach's life that something had gone horribly wrong. And honestly, Zach didn't see anything good which came from it. He was fairly certain that he'd have been about the same really. And well, he didn't know about some things, but clearly, however life would have been without all of this Death Eater stuff...it would have been better. Both Cedric and Colin would have been alive, and Colin wouldn't be about to go fighting and worrying Zach about his death. Uncle Tewdric probably wouldn't have been murdered either. This whole death business was not Zach's preference.
Dean hadn't told Colin anything, was the first part that Zach got out of Colin's statement. It wasn't just that he hadn't said anything about being together as the two of them. But it didn't sound like he had said anything at all. But Zach was fairly sure he was right on the details he had figured out, though they were still more gist than details. "Yea," Zach replied, "I always wondered if they were ever more than just best friends." He had promised not to share details about Seamus when talking with Ven, but he was speaking the truth. He'd wondered back in Hogwarts.
"Is Seamus...on the potion?" Zach asked. It had been strange to read about, and it was truly odd how quickly, it felt, Zach had absorbed the new...facts, the reality, of the world. T had put it well.
