It was really nice, seeing Chastity care so much about someone. Patience was glad to see it. But it hurt, too, because it meant that the two of them were caught between each other and the people they loved. Barty was on one side of whatever political struggle or battle was going on, Fred was on the other. If not for that, Patience honestly believed that she and her twin could simply unite to survive whatever the world threw at them.
She got to her feet, moving towards Chastity, and took her hands. “If there were a way,” she said softly, “to make sure that he, and you, and I survived --” and Fred, too, but she would worry about that herself-- “Would you take that path?” That was all she needed to know, really. That there was a chance that everyone she loved could survive this, that they were planning to do it, if they could. “I’ll do anything,” she added, blinking once when her eyes stung. “If there were anything I could do to make sure you and he both survived, I would do it. In a heartbeat.”
The thought of her sister losing the man she loved was nearly as awful to her as the thought of losing Fred. Chastity was responsible for so much of Patience’s happiness, protecting her to ensure that she could live, and live the life she wanted. Even Fred and Remus were aware of that to an extent, as wary as they were of the Mark on Chastity’s arm.
