Fucking hell, this isn't Paris.

But I know exactly where I am. Why am I back in Berlin? Is this some sort of divine punishment or a sign that I'm not supposed to fuck around with Simone? Because if it is, I had already figured that out and was just about to tell her that I couldn't sleep with her.

...

...

...and the calendar doesn't say 2020.

This is a dream, isn't it? Elaborate. A VERY elaborate and realistic dream.

Your calendar should read 2008.

That's exactly what it reads but I'm feeling the urge to not believe that I've just been pulled back twelve years.

Hi, welcome to Vortexville, population: you.

Here's a handy [link] with most of the information you need, watch out for the sparkles!

I'm Henriette, and you're right, the calendar doesn't say 2020, because that's the future!

Well, aren't you a bundle of cheer and welcome?

I'll be sure to watch for those, though I'm used to them. People on another community use them quite a bit.

Andrej. And, no, I would have never guessed that 2020 is in the future. Then again, 2020 is the present time that I'm used to.

I try, and there's worse things to be accused of I suppose.

And if you want to get right down to it 2020's actually the past as far as I'm concerned. You lost, what? Twelve years, give or take? I'm not even born yet.

Oh, there's far worse things to be accused of.

...so 2020 is the past for you. And you haven't been born yet. Right. That's quite a bit to wrap one's mind around.

Oh trust me, I know. Best part is I am/was born here. In a year or two, maybe three, hell, don't know how long my parents waited.

The really fun part? I'm pretty sure my being here and talking to my dad is what actually tipped the scales to get him to propose to my mom, and that's a time pretzel I don't even want to think about. Not quite as bad as 'I am my own grandpa' but close enough.

Since it's 2008...that would mean there might a fourteen year-old me running around somewhere.

Huh. So, messing up the time stream and giving it a quick push forward. Or something like that.

Nice. I can fuck around with time, but I don't think I can do that sort of stuff with it.

Hey, I asked him if he was sure he wanted to know. I mean, kind of hard not to, since I've got his last name and my mom's eyes.

Anyway, you get used to it after a while. The having-traveled-back-in-time thing, anyway.

I get where you're coming from. He asked so you answered.

Uh huh. First time traveling back in time. Most I'm capable of is slowing, stopping, or quickening it up.

I don't even do that. Not a timebender myself, though I've met a few.

You know who you replaced yet? Anybody famous?

Yeah? I'm the only one I know of at the moment.

Some actor. With a crazy ass agent who left 50 messages on his machine. Figures I'd get this job.

Ouch. At least I just wound up a bartender. I mean, yeah, I'm sure they'd miss me if I didn't show up to work, but not like I've got anybody really depending on me like that.

I've been doing this acting business for ten years. Not like any more of it will kill me or anything.

But I'd take bartending any time over this, though I can't really complain. At least the actresses are usually good looking and somewhat bearable. What's the bar and where's it located?

Snake Pit, New Orleans, it's in the basement/bomb shelter of [address], we've got live snakes and live belly dancing, it's a pretty cool place, actually.

It's great, and not just because I work there.

And it's fun, as long as you don't mind the six foot python trying to get your drink.

I'll be taking your word for it until I get the chance to check it out myself.

No, don't mind snakes at all. So the python can attempt to get my drink all it wants.

That's Rita, she usually hangs out with the bottles over the bar, but sometimes she decides she wants some.

It's kind of fun to watch her startle the newbies.

Rita. Cute name for a python.

It sounds like it must be. Hm~ Well, I think I'll get in touch with my so called agent in a few days and give them a message that I'll be out of country for awhile.

My dad wound up as a rockstar when he came here, the way mom tells it he called his agent and asked if he could spend a year dead.

Don't know if it actually worked or not, I'll have to ask next time I see him.

...spend a year dead.

Hah, that's a rather amusing idea right there. It might've worked, depending on what kind of personality the agent has. Mine back from where I'm actually from would have probably flipped and freaked out at the idea.

He had a good PR crew, figure he still does, here, so I'm pretty sure they took it okay.

Figure it was my mom's idea though, she usually takes the direct approach to solving things.

Yep, my mom's a pretty awesome chick to know.

She's around here too, somewhere, and she's got a ton of interesting ideas.
