It's a rare thing indeed that I dream, but to have nightmares after such a splendid day?

Something's amiss.

... Morpheus, are you alright? We may have never talked in this realm, but I'm fairly certain that any dreaming whatsoever given to the waking dead is at the cause of You. And in my world, I know well enough not to simply pass things of this nature off as a momentary lapse of coincidence. If you are in the need of a long-mortal's ear to whisper into, or any need for human conjuring, I'm always at the service of the Endless, in any world I travel. If indeed you need something that your family cannot provide, I am not so far away. If you need a physical address, I'll be more than willing to give it to you.

Will, I've recently met someone that you simply should meet. He's rather an interesting individual. Oh hell, and it's times like this I wish I had copies of books in my library. Well, once he's finished with it, I'm letting you borrow a book I've been working on since your son was born.

Petit, Do I need to come out there and drag the two of you to every little happening that we cook up? We were at a loss for both of you this weekend and I'm rather worried about you both. I saw Artan's thread... I trust he's living up to the words he spilled so easily to a stranger?

Anything you want, Father. I relish the opportunity to spend time with you.

You've met my son? I've memories of him, but he isn't here. I only have met him once in his life.

I never did get to meet him in person, no. It was... Let's just say I kept tabs from afar.

It was a complicated matter.
BUT! Enough of that! The one I'm talking about is actually our descendant. One of hundreds, but he's in a direct line of firstborn sons, which is what I've kept track of. If I tried to keep track of the entire family, I'd have gone more mad than I am. Twelfth generation, I believe. Might be thirteenth. I'd have to check again.

As far as spending time is concerned, feel free to drop by [address] at any time. If I'm not here, Jack is. And yes, I'm well aware of people's hesitant nature around the man, but... It's Jack. He's generally harmless.

Hell, come on over now if you'd like. I'll call the descendant and see if he's able to be pried away from his wife for half an hour.

Future relations? That's amazing. I'd never even given a thought to the fact that I had grandchildren or great-grandchildren and so on. It stands to reason, as I'm from the distant past.

And you know him? Is he a good man? I'd love to meet him and his family.

I've never had a real problem with Jack, Father. He's Jack. What else can you say?

I'll be right over.

A mortal girl under my care was taken against her will and is being kept from my realm. Many are already searching for the girl, with the intent to kill the culprit. I would prefer to have him alive, in order to bestow a sentence besides death.

I understand fully the preference You have in this matter.
If there is anything I can do, physically or otherwise to help You in the matters, You need but give me the information needed to do as I can do for You. There's a great deal I can do to incapacitate without harm.

And if anybody can bestow a just judgment upon a man, it would be You and Your siblings, Sir Dream.

Funny thing about that, he's way more open with strangers than he is with me.

I'm working on it, but I'm also working on selling a couple houses, so... there really hasn't been as much discussion as there should be.

He's still young in love, give him time. I know it may sound a bit conceited, but if there's one thing I believe I understand best of all, it's the foolish workings of a lovestruck heart.

He'll find a way, luv. I promise that. ... Even if I have to come out there and wring it out of him.

What I wonder is if you want this. After all, he's asked of you something that goes against your nature. Neither of your parents were prone to monogamy, and from what I remember of it, you aren't so much one for it, yourself.

I just want to see you both happy.

Mum was better at it, for a given definition of 'better'. But I don't know, and I've told him that much, that if he wants me all to himself, he's got to figure out how to keep me.

And it still sounds wrong, it's not as bitchy a demand as it looks, it's just... hell, I don't even know, like you said, not really prone to monogamy, don't really know how it works, so it's up to him to show me.

No, I understand. Honestly, where you are right now is entirely justifiable as far as logic is concerned. That demand is wholly understandable. However, I'm not entirely certain that young Artan understands that it's not as hard as it seems. That'll be something he'll have to figure out on his own time.

But what are you doing in return for him? After all, to ask him to put forth effort like that would be unfair if you weren't doing something for him, as well. And I don't mean 'standing there and not running away', luv.

Equal efforts, that's what relationships need.

I uh, haven't laughed at him all week, at least, not when he was being serious. Besides that? I honestly don't know. And if he'd stop playing Mayor of Avoidance Town for five minutes whenever I try to bring it up, I'd ask. I'm seriously debating just drugging him, if that would even work.

Thanks for the advice though, seriously. We'll, well, we'll work something out eventually. I'm not used to being normal, really is what it comes down to.

I don't think he wants you to be normal.

And honestly, with what the two of you are used to, you're calling monogamy normal?

Petit, think about that for a second.

I'm calling this whole fucked-up situation 'normal' on account of it being more normal than anything else that's happened to me recently.

I mean, Christ, people don't even look twice at my eyes, or going see-through instead of tripping over mailboxes or anything, they just act like it's perfectly ordinary and it's finally starting to get to me, I think. Things are too perfect and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

The other shoe did drop. You may have me, and Jack and Anne and Artan... but you're alone.

That's the other shoe, Petit. You're on your own. Even the man that's your father in our world doesn't know you. Which is a shame. I rather liked having Remy as a friend. And Logan. We all lost a great many friends in our move to this world. You lost your husband. Artan... never had anyone to begin with, from what I know, and we all lost someone we'd rather have back.

That'd be the hardest part for me, really. I have Jack, and bless the fates I do, but he's a necessity, where all of the others were comforts. And nobody's quite comfortable.

It may seem perfect to you, but to me, I can see beyond mutation, supernatural occurrences, and other paltry things to get at the root.

We're not rooted here. This isn't home. It never will be. And whatever we left behind may move on while we're here.

It's in my blood to be able to put down roots wherever and to yank them right back up again whenever. It's part of who I am, born, bred and trained, to fit in, to just become part of the status quo and keep under the radar.

I've just never managed it this well before and to be honest it scares the crap out of me. Because I know what I'm capable of, what happens when I get bored. And as much as he gets on my nerves sometimes, I don't want Artan to get caught in the crossfire if I get reckless. Hell, don't want anyone here to, not unless I know for a fact they deserve it.

I lived on a fucking boat for fifty years. Roots are easy to pick up for me, too.

Hell, why's it you think we have houses all along the Atlantic coastline?
Petit, I'd like to think I know what you're capable of, as well, and it doesn't scare me. And it won't harm Artan, and it won't harm anyone unless they deserve it.

Find place to channel that energy.

You're waiting for the other shoe to still drop and I've already pointed it out to you. If you refuse to believe that's it, all's the more misery for the blind.

You've seen me on the job, with a purpose, you've never seen me at loose ends. Hell, that's why I left the island so often when things were slow, so I didn't end up doing something I'd regret later.

And I'm working on finding an outlet here. It's not as easy as one would think.

And I think we have vastly different opinions on just what the other shoe is.
