I have not yet discovered any Templars here. Of course, that may mean that they simply hide well.

Yes. The Order was plentiful until not long ago, when a group of Templars under the name of Abstergo hunted them down and murdered them. Only a handful, if that, survived, but I have yet to see any in this world.
