Principessa, as I live and breathe! Did you simply think you wished for a new body and have one appear?

... Ezio? You got older and more handsome! I would hardly think it possible!

No, I simply ... wasn't here for a time, and I was worried about you lot and my fiancé and Bill and Jack and - it wasn't home. It was a bit like stasis, or sleep.

I returned here, just like you ... I was home, though. Mama, Claudia, and Leonardo. Though Leonardo worked for the Borgia, under threat. I am now thirty-eight, an old man. They call me il Mentore now.

I have been seeing one of the ladies you think of as a sister, as your box self knows.

Was Papa happy? Was he all right? ... il Mentore? Then I shall have to call you the same! You're not old. Papa, he lived to be old.

I know, she fancies you. She's feisty, are you sure you can handle her, with your arthritic hands and weak knees?

Such impudence! But no, you may call me Ezio. You are a family friend, after all. I was called il Mentore by Machiavelli. When I was made head of the Order. I would not demand that respect of anyone who is not an Assassin.

Can I not respect you anyway?

If you ever need me to rub liniment on your aching muscles after you visit Dani, let me know.

You may respect me, but I would never demand it of you, Principessa. Leonardo would not forgive me my hubris.

I somehow imagine Dani would prefer to take on that role herself, as counter-productive as it may appear.

Papa loved you. He would not mind whatever you asked of me, because you would not ask anything inappropriate of me.

Oh, it's like that already? Good! You two are a wonderful match, you know. You'd be good for her, she's had it terrible with men.

OMG! Princess! You're back!

I just had a brainwave. It means I get to feed you everything I've been learning to cook! And you can meet Jae-sun for real, instead of flapping at him. Oh, I'm glad you're around! Mom and Daddy will be so happy too.

He's Korean. He's half angel ... Nephilim, if you've heard of them. He's gorgeous and sweet and kind; he's a librarian, but he's also a singer. He sings in subway stations.

E 'un piacere conoscerla, signor Caffrey. Il mio inglese è abbastanza buono, grazie! I was away from here. I was born here... after a fashion. I think you're new, though, I'd remember you.

I haven't been here long. And I won't bother you, if your English is good; I just wasn't sure. I got the impression people here can usually speak English, if only because it's sort of the universal language. Your Italian is ... formal.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]italianpuzzle
2011-09-04 06:10 am UTC (link)
Italian is my first language. I'm afraid mine is not so much formal as it is... antiquated.

My name is Marietta Turner, but most people simply call me Princess. I appreciate your concern. You are obviously a gentleman.

Antiquated, really? How so? Call me curious. I consider myself a bit of an expert on Italian Renaissance art, mostly portraiture. And it's nice to meet you, Miss Turner. I just wasn't sure how good your English was on looking at your post, so I thought I'd stick my head in.

Really? Perhaps you know of my father and a few of his associates, then.

How accustomed are you to the oddities of this place, Signor Caffrey?

I am ... I don't know, I've seen some weird stuff. A childhood hero of mine from comic books is alive and well here, and I'm seeing his daughter. I did time in my world for bond forgery, and here I've got a record squeakier than new porcelain. I'm sure there's weirder around the corner for me.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]italianpuzzle
2011-09-04 06:43 am UTC (link)
Bonds? I assume those are some sort of currency?

I was made in 1491 in Firenze. I was given a body about three years ago via magic.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]classicratpack
2011-09-04 06:49 am UTC (link)
... that's a little weirder, yeah.

Um. Bonds - government bonds - they're issued by a national government, in the country's own currency. They're debt investments. Basically, you're loaning money to your country. They got fancy in later years, with paintings, often by great masters, at the head of the bond. It's supposed to identify and authenticate it, in theory.

That isn't the part that most people find strange, Signor.

So you are an artist, then!

In a manner of speaking, I suppose. And what part do people find strange?

There's a few parts people find strange. I will start with the first: I was, until very recently, a puzzle box. I still am, in a manner of speaking - I still inhabit my former self, but I am also in this body now.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]classicratpack
2011-09-04 06:55 am UTC (link)
... Yeah, that's strange. A puzzle box? Not many people even made puzzle boxes. Whomever made you had to be a genius. Real puzzle boxes that actually held secrets are still pretty rare.

Papa gave me sentience. He was an alchemist, among many other things. I lived on a ship with pirates for many, many years, until one performed a spell to give me this body. I wish Papa could see me.

[info]classicratpack

That's incredibly impressive. Weird for me, but I hope I'm not being rude. Just, like you said, I'm new here. It's hard to wrap my head around. There aren't many alchemists I've ever heard of who would actually have that power or know how to discover it. Was the person you call your father well known? I mean, have you heard of him since you left him?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

That's exciting. I'm really sorry if I'm being nosy, just ... a lot of Renaissance men are my inspirations.

BB LeBeau. We've been on some dates. And it's hard to not always see the master when I come into contact with anything he's touched.

I'll stop talking. Just, when I paint, his is the palette I learned from. I'm ... yes. I'd like to show you some of my work. It isn't like I hold a candle to his, but I still enjoy painting.

Please, call me Princess. I'm so old, I haven't been a miss in some time! Do you like her?

Most painters I've known are as humble as you. We'll see if it's merited. Perhaps you have a reason to be cocky beyond your beauty!

I'm Neal, then. BB and I have a lot of fun together. She's a great person. And very pretty.

The trouble with art and bond forgery is that you can't take credit for your work. I do have a few pieces I can take credit for.

You know, in all the centuries I've been alive, men haven't come up with a better way to put 'I enjoy sleeping with her but haven't committed yet'. Perhaps someday.

I want to see all of them. I can always help, I have a very good eye for minutia. Papa made me to help chronicle his work. I took all of his notes.

I guess it doesn't really work to try and gloss over things to a being who's probably seen everything.

We can meet somewhere and I can show you my legit pieces. Just bear with me. You know how painters can be.
