School is so awesome! It's just like papa said. I wish I could live there.

I love to see a child who values the importance of school.

I've never been to school before. All the schools were gone, when I was born.

Really? May I ask what happened, or is the matter too sensitive to discuss?

We had an apocalypse, and everything was destroyed. Well, mostly everything.

Good heavens, and I thought my life was bad. I'm very sorry to hear that. If there is anything you need, please let me know, as I have plenty.

Having said that, are you getting settled in here? What subjects are you studying, now that you're in school?

Thank you, sir. We're doing okay. papa has a ranch, and we have friends and Miss Anne is real nice and shows me things I haven't seen before, but papa remembers from before.

I just started school, so they're having me take all these tests to see where I fit in, but I'm learning maths and science and stuff, I already know how to read. My papa taught me.

You're welcome. And while I appreciate the manners, as they seem to be lacking in many young people today, if we could dispense with the 'sir' that would suit me just fine. Please, call me Kitt. Calling me 'sir' makes me feel old. If you ever do have need of anything, don't hesitate to ask - my door will be open.

I'm sure there are many things in this world for you to see and explore. I'm guessing it's an exciting time for you.

Your papa sounds like a very good man. And math and science were always my favorite subjects.

It's very nice to meet you, Kitt. My name is Gabriel. My papa taught me to be polite. He taught me lots of things, but I'm learning even more now that I can go to school.

I like math okay, but science is really cool.

And you as well, Gabriel. It seems like he's doing a fine job with you, and I'm glad that you're getting the opportunity to go to school.

Math and science go hand in hand! But I will admit, science has more of the enjoyable hands-on applications. I think math is more of a mental exercise.

Mama used to say some people had a head for numbers and other people had a gift for words, and she thought maybe I might be the second one.

And there is nothing wrong with either. But if you ever find yourself needing help with the numbers, I'll be happy to volunteer my time.

Kitt, is it? Luke. Gabriel's father. He told me about your conversation, and he's really keen on meeting you. I thought we might drop by sometime this week? The boy will be difficult to live with, until I take him.

It is! It's very nice to talk to you, Luke. Gabriel is a fine boy - you should be proud. Any time you wish to drop by, I'll make sure I'm available - I'm looking forward to meeting the both of you, too.

Thank you. He is a good kid, and I've many reasons to be proud. I can't take all the credit, most of it is his natural disposition.

Tomorrow, then. After his classes.

You're welcome. Good genes and good parenting - I can see that you do.

Tomorrow it is. I'll see the both of you then. I hope you'll be staying for dinner as well.

If you like, we certainly will.

Easy on the meat. It's not been available to us until now, and I fear it would make the boy sick.

Of course. It can be wholly vegetarian, if you like.

We usually get to go in the first half, but there's a lot of overlap. And CV's not realy my cousin, she's my friend Cassie's cousin, but we all call her my cousin too, and Sor's.

There's schools in the world that kids actually live in! There called boarding schools. They have whole parts of the school that are bedrooms for the kids and they don't get to see there moms and dads when they go there. I like school but I don't think I would like that.
