Hi, I'm Star, and I've been here for two whole days and most of a third. I've been taking up space on someone's couch thus far, but I'd rather not keep that up for too long, don't like making a pest of myself.

I'm not sure if I've really got any marketable skills, if anybody needs anything shot, I'm damn good at that, I'm also good at bandaids and splints, pretty good at stitches. I'm also better at putting engines back together than people, if that counts for anything.

Other than that, I learn quick, so if you need help with something I can learn it. This place is ... really different than what I'm used to.

Basically I'm looking for something to do to make enough scratch to get a place to stay, or maybe somebody who needs general maintenance done in return for a place to sleep, I ain't picky that way.

(ooc - Terminator: Salvation spoilers possible in comments)

Hey Star, my name's KK. If you need a place to crash and something to make some money, I work at an auto shop and live above it as the On Call, but I rarely am there. Promise no keggers and it's good to crash.

You know your way under a truck's bonnet? Come by and we can pay you, if you're in a pinch.

Bonnet's the front part, right? Where they store the engine?

I'm from somewhere in the future of this place, most vehicles that are left need a good swift kick to get them going again, so I'm good at that part.

No keggers, cross my heart, hard to host parties when you don't talk.

Yeah, Brit speak and Yank talk sometimes clashes. Biscuits and cookies, chips and crisps...

Awesome, so am I. Well, not the one I came from, but hurrah time travelers! Don't tell my customers, but sometimes a well-placed monkey-wrench works wonders.

Well, gotta get you out and having fun. No one can hear in a mosh pit anyway.

Still ain't sure this isn't just some Skynet trick, some kind of test. No real way to find out except keep playing along though.

...What's a mosh pit?

Seeing as I've never heard of 'Skynet,' I'd doubt it, but then again that's what you expect me to say, huh? Ahh survival paranoia.

You cannot be told what a mosh pit is. Get some steel toed boots, Star. The bass is loud enough to rattle teeth and you get to bounce and hit strangers. Mindless fun.

Spoken like a true survivor.

... and people do this for fun? Ain't enough people to go around beating up your own kind where I'm from. We pretty much stick together.

Our world had a hole punched in it and London was flooded. Thrown back to the Stone Age.

Well, it's more of a losing your mind and not having to be restricted. A wave in the sea of people. Hopefully the music's actually good.

Ours got destroyed by machines, Terminators, no one's quite sure how it happened, but one day they gained sentience and decided we were a threat, went and wiped us all out. Well, wiped most of us out, there's still the Resistance.

Sea of people, that's something we ain't had in a long time.

That's creepy as hell. Sorry, our wipe-out was humanish-based. No fighting, but we had to rediscover the wheel after growing up with Ducatis, if you know what I mean.

Same here. Hence the welcome of bruises from some wanker's elbow.

Oh we've still got the Ducatis. We just don't have a lot of people who know how to get them running again, and there ain't a lot of gas to go around.
Well, that and the Hunter-Killers track by heat, so having a running vehicle out in the open is as good as painting a target on your ass.

I'm so used to taking on things that are bigger and stronger than me I'd be afraid I'd hurt somebody.

We had no petrol either, so two crazy broads with monkey-wrenchs invented steam-power. :) You should see my bike, I can't fly it so much with all these people.

Yeah, she'd be screwed against one of those.

Eh, the wankers deserved it, coming in drunk and thinking they'd be so badass to start clubbing people.

We probably would have thought of that too, given enough time. Good water's hard to come by though, and most of it's used for drinking and some for cleaning. That's the difference between everything burning and everything drowning though I guess.

So ... what's the point of a mosh pit?

Probably would, yes, we just had a... leg up on problem solving those kind of problems. We just started talking electricity and water based batteries. Mostly because the luddite others were paranoid.

The point is to be really close to the band, standroom only. Then you are listening to the band live, and getting into it, you know? And you rocking and thrashing and doing your thing, while everyone else is rocking and thrashing and doing their thing. But by slight oxygen deprivation or induced trance, you don't mind the bruises so much.

Yeah, we still got electricity and stuff, helicopters and things. Military kept good stores if nothing else.

Ah, proof of life through pain. Some of the guys back home are like that.

Yup, we scoured for bullets and HAM crank radios from the likes of them.

That's a good way to think of it. Drunken music-philes mixed with idiotic wankers wanking works too.

Know how to fix the radios too, besides the engines. Know my way around tiny tools the same as I do a good old sledgehammer.

Don't have a lot of either of those left back home.

Great. The only thing I hate fixing is electronics, so if you want this as a pinch-job, I'll vouch. Seamus is good.

You'll get used to them. Then you'll remember how much you didn't miss them.

I can do electronics too. Not sure if I'm better at them than the actual gear parts, but I can do both. Where is this place?

I don't think I'd miss them, pretty sure they were in short supply even before I was born.
