Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Today is a day in which many take a moment to give thanks, and then retire to watch football.

I struggle, in this hour, to determine just what I am thankful for. All I have loved is dead and gone, and yet I live. I can not be thankful for that, for though life is precious and should not be taken for granted, I did not ask for this. I do not wish to be...

And so it is. I have been blessed and cursed... for now I possess the keys to the kingdom of heaven. I will forgive those who deserve freedom. I will damn those who have damned themselves. I will learn to live after love has died. I am the sin eater.

Be thankful that you are alive. Its something i am thankful for every day, especially when I remember just how close I came to dying.

Of course, forgive me child. I do not mean to be disrespectful. Life is a thing to cherish, no matter the circumstances.

Do you need someone to spend time with? I mean I know I am not the greatest of choices, but if you would like some company I could help with that.

I would think I am far from the ideal choice to hang out with, but I see your point. I think, perhaps, it would be a good idea. And if not, then we go our separate ways, no harm, no foul.

Where are you located? I am in London now.

We could meet somewhere neutral, if you want that is.

An interesting hymn, to say the least. I might have written it myself, it sounds so familiar.

Is that so? Are you a sin eater, friend? I know of no other.

Metaphorically. I don't think quite as literally as you mean it.

Vengence then. I can sort of sense it. Feel it. Something.

That's more appropriate. Yes, something along those lines. What else do you feel, exactly?

Specifically, pain. Anger. Death, Frustration. Love. Love that never ends, even with death. Love that would destroy the world for one moment...

I'm sorry. I...It's very strong, speaking to you.

I am undead, myself. I should be dead. I can not die.

It's a strange state of being, isn't it? What was supposed to have killed you?

I attempted to kill another man, with a sacred knife. He failed to tell me that stabbing him with said knife would transfer his powers unto me.

Thomas believes the only way to kill me now, is that knife, and only the next sin eater can do it. Until such time as the Universe chooses another, I am the only one, destined to this life.

At the risk of asking for explanation where none is necessary, what does a sin eater do? Is the eating of sin aspect literal?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

It is. It involves a detailed ritual, a ceremony in which I extract sin from the dying, and give absolution in the moments before death. In fact,t hat does make me something of a trash can for the sins of man.

And those who don't get your absolution? Do they still find some kind of peace when they die?

Honestly, I don't know. Until I met Will, I thought sin eaters were a thing of myth and lore. As far as I know, I am the only one. Surely I can't be expected to absolve every sinner, people die every minute of every day, and I don't absolve but a small fraction of them.

Surely not. It sounds like you've been given a difficult enough job without being forced to take care of every soul on the planet. You're a man of God, then?

I am a priest, yes. A man of God. Although, you understand I question my faith, even as I preach unending love and eternal peace to my congregation each Sunday.

I think it's fair to question it. God is something of an unfair bastard. Creating beautiful things just to see them destroyed.

I never really realised that, before Will killed Mara. She was so beautiful, even in her tragedy. And then she was gone. And almost no sin to speak of. he killed her to make a point, and he made me what I am.

The senseless death of innocent people has always had a special place in 'God's plan', apparently.
