Life is strange.

Not bad, not wonderful, just. . . strange.

I think this is the first time I've ever gotten along well with women. Now all my awkwardness seems to focus on important meetings of the 'getting into school with a suitable scholarship' vein.

If anyone needs me, this rather spectacular embarrassment calls for a round of hot chocolate.

I should still do well, I had very strong test scores, and serving, however briefly, in the military did give me an edge. I shouldn't have stayed up all last night with the LAN clan contingent at Nate's place. Curse them and their evil influence.

You're not an embarassment.

I didn't say I was. I said I had been embarrassed, but not that I was an embarrassment.

Oh, okay. Just wanted to get my two cents in there and apparently it wasn't needed.

Now who's embarrassed?

Both of us, it seems.

Well hey, now that we are both embarrassed we can move on.

How are you doing?

Nervous, but not terrible. I don't want to ask for a lot of money to go back to school, and was hoping to have a dorm, so i wouldn't keep sponging off of Emma and Logan, but I don't know if that's going to happen if I keep slipping up like that.

If you want...I mean I know you don't know me that well, but I could help you out if you want.

Don't sweat it. Emma is wealthy enough that she could help, I just don't want to be a burden.

Look, I am trying to open a restaurant, you could help me and I will pay you for the work and I will work around whatever you need me to.

Thanks, but I'd rather get a job on my merit than because I know the owner.

Beside, being friends with your boss is kind of hard.

I wouldn't have offered if I didn't think you could do the job, trust me, if I wanted to offer jobs to people just because they know me my sister and cousins would be working.

If you decide later that the job is something you want to do just give me a call.

Everything I've done prior to coming here was done through family or with their help. I'd like to be less of a useless appendage and more of my own person.

Beside, there's no harm in trying to do things on my own. If I fail, then I know that I'm not good at the whole meeting thing, and maybe a career in business wouldn't work out for me.

You're not a useless appendage, and letting your mom pay for your education doesn't make you any less of your own person. You're always trying to move out. Do I smell or something?

[info]dasummers

I'm not trying to move out because of you. Or Emma, or Logan, or anyone.

I just. . . feel like I should be starting my own life, you know? I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just part of growing up. Beside, I'll have to ask for help no matter what. Have you seen how expensive colleges are? I'd have to way better at persuading people to give me something for nothing to pay for it on my own.

I'm not even starting classes until next fall. You'll be begging me to get my scrawny butt out of the house by then.

College stuff takes forever.

Don't be sad, princess. In a few years you'll be heading off to college too. That doesn't mean I'm never going to see you again. We'll still talk on the forum, and I'll come home for dinner a lot (dorm food is horrible), and the portkeys will make visiting you really easy.

I don't have an intention of ditching you guys. I just want to see if I'm ready to go out into the world yet.

If you want to be responsible for your education, we could simply work out a loan of some sort and you could pay me back. It's entirely up to you, of course. But think about it and let me know what you'd like.

I will. That does sound like a good idea.

Figuring out what you want is hard. I'm not sure if I want to keep studying business or not.

You never know what you want until you're doing it, darling. Pick something that appeals to you. If you don't like it, you can do something else.

Yeah, you're right. It would probably do me some good to actually hold down a job while I'm doing this too. Get some real world experience, decide if the vast and wonderful world of food service is right for me.

I'm guessing not, though.

Darling, you can take your time. These are probably the last few years you'll have to enjoy yourself and be a child. If you want to work, that's fine. If you don't want to work, that's also fine. There's no shame on being reliant on your parents for a little while.

I won't. If a job and school wind up being too much, then I'll cut back until it's not too much.

Or quit my job and go for more challenging classes.
