Things are a bit better today. I talked on that tele-whatever thing to Ms. Torres, and apologized to her for becoming so upset.

The conversation went much better, though we did not talk about fathers in any way. Apparently, I own a florists' shop. How interesting that people now make a profession out of arranging flowers.

Apparently, the florists' is called Elsinore Florists.

Perhaps I am not mad, and everyone else around me is.

Pretty Lady, you aren't mad, but you checked yourself into a madhouse, so your assessment is probably right.

The world is different these days from that which you ever knew, and the memories you've gotten from the one you replaced are not your own. If you ever feel like submerging yourself into modern society, please, don't hesitate to phone [cell phone number] I know of a place that hasn't gotten out of living its old traditions. It's in Austria. Not precisely the world you knew, but close.

Thank you, sir.

I hope that I may leave the madhouse soon. I do not remember anything of this life that the person I replaced had...but I pretend well, though I do not like lying. I pretend to have amnesia, since they would not believe who I truly was.

I think I remember where Austria is, vaguely. Is it very near Wittenburg?

It's south of Germany, where Denmark is North of it. The place I'm thinking of in particular is on the northern border of Austria, just near Germany itself. The centerpiece of town is this large castle which has stood since the 1200s, and the people there are quite proud of their traditions. They're fairly secular, but I believe with a little convincing, you may be able to fit in there.

That does sound lovely.

Might I have your name, sir? I am Ophelia.

I am known as Alexia, but you may call me whatever it is that you think is better.

If you wish, I'll come and sign you out of the asylum and get you set up in a proper place, one more befitting of a lady. Of course, there's no strings attached right now, but it's better to have you away from grief and turmoil in a life which isn't truly yours, so you can start anew in a place more to your understanding.

There are larger cities around this town so you can go there and tiptoe into the deep end of modern society at your own pace, but as far as I know, this village has only three motor vehicles and two are used for farm work.

You seem a most kind gentleman, sir.

I do not wish to offend, but might I think about this? You see, I do not know you, and you may understand how wary I am...as I have no other worldly powers and no strength, as so many here do.

and so I am quite helpless, you see.

As you wish it, dear. You've got my number, feel free to call me at any time, if even for a sympathetic ear.

Glad you're feeling better.

I am. Feeling much calmer.

And the journal keeping is helping.

How are you, Darius?

I'm doing very well. Glad that the journal is helping you.

I have decided to go back to school, but I don't know what I want to do yet.

Oh. Are you studying away, then? My brother used to go to France for his schooling. I was always quite sad when he went away.

I may be going to Edinburgh, but I'm not sure.

I can't even pronounce it right, that could be a problem.

Maybe I'll reapply to Yale? That one's in America.

It seems you have a few choices.

If you do go away to school, will you visit me sometimes? I will miss you.

Of course. It won't take me that much longer to come see you.

And once you get out, I can show you around the college.

I'll probably live with Emma and the rest anyway, since it's nice to be around people I know and lover. Plus, not having a communal shower is a lovely thing.

Are you bored? Would you like me to bring you more books?

Really? How does one travel that makes it so much less time consuming?

I would love to look around a school...I have never been to one.

It is good that you live with special people. I am far from bored--my doctors are very supportive of my journal keeping. Of course, I must keep the mentions of my past at a minimum.

If I go to Yale, I'll be closer, and I can show you around the campus. And there are magical devices around the world called portkeys. If you touch one and think of a location where there is another portkey, it will take you to the location of the portkey in that particular city.

Like a teleporter.

Oh...I really need to become acquainted with my location, don't I? I do not know where the people who come to visit me live.

Portkeys sound incredible, and not difficult to use. Are they safe?

It would help you become less afraid. And you could always ask them where they live, or even ask the doctors, since anyone wanting to pick you up would probably have to leave an address.

And yes, the portkeys are safe. A little disorienting, but safe. Better than some of the other teleportation devices I've used.

That sounds like a good idea. I'm sure there is information on the computer about such things, as well.

That makes me feel better. The world has grown at once larger and smaller to me.

Definitely. Try out Google Earth. it's pretty cool.

I know what you mean. It's a good world, though, and worth exploring.

I shall do so. I find that I am growing more curious the more that I feel the time to leave here grows nearer.

Though I am still very nervous and scared.

Being in a new place is always a little scary. Don't worry, no matter where I go to school, I'll be around you as much as you can until you get tired of me.
