The Atrium within the Ministry of Magic was already an impressive feat of wizarding architecture. Marble floors shone so brightly that one could see their reflection, and the glass windows that held the numerous offices above sparkled as well given the attention that Magical Maintence had paid to them in the days before the ball.
The newly constructed fountain following the second war of a wizarding family (a witch, wizard, and two children) each smiling and existing happily with creatures such as House Elves and Centaurs stood at the center of the room, and a raised platform had been constructed at the far end by the lifts to hold the magical band which was playing soft slow jazz as patrons entered the Atrium.
Not much had been provided by way of decoration. Tables were set up with black linen tablecloths, various white flowers stood in silver vases in varying arrangements. The bar was decorated similarly with silver goblets and glasses, and other flower arrangements floated in various areas of the Ministry. Perhaps the most impressive feat of the atmosphere were the thousands of candles glowing brightly in the offices that towered above the atrium, giving the entire room an ethereal glow.
For those already inside and enjoying the party, the screening process had not been difficult. And indeed if you had nothing to hide then it wasn't. Aurors and private security stood at the entrances, each of them carrying probity probes and a list I(with photographs included) of people to detain if they happened to attempt to enter the ball. However, one knew that with a quick confundus charm or distraction you could still enter the ball.
Or merely stun the guards located at the back entrances into the Ministry of Magic.
The final stop before entering the Atrium was to receive a mask, those of which patrons were generally handed without consideration to their outfit of choice or personal preference. However, as with most things in Wizarding Britain, people could generally be talked or bought into changing their minds.
