The Council Bar 3
Title: The Council Bar Author: Indra Leigh Rating: FR7 Crossover: Buffy and Stargate SG-1 Disclaimer: I do NOT own Buffy or Stargate SG-1 Summary: After a long day at work Jack heads to the council's bar. Author's notes: This continues my story http://www.tthfanfic.com/Story-15971/IndraLeigh+Investigating+Bar+Rumors.html and yes I am actively working on continueing it.
Hearing the door open Robby looked up from the stone mug he was filling to see who the customer was. Recognizing them he reached under the bar top to pull out a tall glass mug. “Hi Jack. Just you tonight?”
“I think so. Thanks Robby.” Sitting on a stool Jack took the glass of beer and raised it a bit toward the bartender as thanks.
“How was work? You’re in earlier than usual today.” Glad for the chance to talk to a good customer Robby took advantage of it. Easy going, doesn’t start fights, and one of the most pleasant customers to serve, in fact that described everyone on SG-1.
Simple glass beer mug with Jack’s name engraved on the side. Each member of SG-1 had one, one reason for the personalized mugs was so they wouldn’t be served anything that is hazardous for humans to drink and partially because Xander wanted them to feel welcome.
“We went on a field trip this morning and pissed off the locals. I stepped on some rock that was in the middle of the trail, Sam stopped and smelled some flower that apparently you have to be a married guy to smell it. And what was supposed to a nice hi how ya doin meeting went downhill fast from there. So we high tailed it back home and I skipped out early. Someone needs to make flash cards, like you can sit on this chair if you’re carrying a pigeon or you can step on the blue pebble with your left foot but not your right foot when you’re walking west.”
“I’m sure glad I don’t have your job.”
“Hey do you think I could try my hand at bartending?” Jack perked up at the idea of trying Robby’s job.
“Sure, why not? Come on around.” Robby waved to the end of the bar for Jack to walk through.
Two hours later when Xander walked in with a pizza in hand he was greeted to the sight of Jack shaking up a limeade for a part Bracken demon who owned a bookstore in town. Sitting on his usual stool he opened the pizza box and taking a slice as he spoke, “Robby was right, I had to see this.”
“Hey Xander. Mind if I have a slice?”
“Have at it. What brought on the change of career?”
“Work sucked today and Robby didn’t say no when I asked if I could try his job out.”
“Makes sense. Have any of my girls been in yet?”
“Vicky has. Said to tell you that she’s staying the night at Rosie’s house tonight.” Jack said, refilling a glass with something blue and yellow swirled.
“Oh yeah the psychology project that’s really stay up late and watch chick flicks.”
“Closing time Jack. You were great tonight. You got the hang of things very fast.” Robby said has he put out a cigarette in the ash tray next to the cash register. It had been a slow night and Jack was easily handling the few customers so he was able to sit down and read a couple of magazines.
“It was great. I didn’t realize I needed it. I may do it again sometime if that’s all right with you.”
“Fine with me, just have to double check with the boss over there.” Robby smirked as he showed Jack what needed to be done to close down the place for the night.
“How many times have I told you the bar is yours to run as you want, I have no say how you run it, but if it will make you feel better. Jack you’re hired, when ya wanna work let Robby know. I’ll be around if you need help and Robby has disappeared.”
“Sweet. Thanks guys.”
“Robby we just gave the second in command at a top secret military base a job as part time bartender.” Xander said as he watched Jack walk out in a better mood than when he walked in.
