“What?”
Not even looking at the clock, Jack O’Neill answered his phone, not pleased at being woken up.
“She’s on your roof stargazing.”
“Who?”
“It’s Jenn. Dawn is on your roof stargazing.”
“Ok, thanks Jenn.”
After carefully making his way to the crows nest that held his telescope Jack handed Dawn one of the mugs he had brought up. With a soft whisper of ‘hot chocolate’ he sat on the worn smooth gray wood.
“It’s my first time off world without you guys.”
“You’re going with your marines. Even though they’re marines their good guys. “
“Teal’c growled at them yesterday.”
“His way of saying take care of her.”
“I know. But I think it was mostly for show.”
“Yeah. Where you going?”
“The guy’s summed up the trip calling it heavy lifting, weird eating, and me to translate.”
“So why are you on my roof at three am?”
“I wont be out there with you guys.”
“You mean we didn’t give you a chance to worry before your first time off world, and with your mission later today with someone other than us, now your worrying.”
“I wont tell anyone how smart you are if you don’t tell them I was up here worrying.”
“Deal. Do you want to stay up here some more or head inside and you can get some sleep in the guest room?”
“Sleep if I can.”
“Come on kid. We’re supposed to try to scare off some boyfriend of Cassie’s at dinner tonight.”
“What if he doesn’t get scared off.”
“He might be a keeper.”
“Your looking forward to it.”
“I don’t want Cassie hurt.”
“Jack.”
“Yeah?”
“You’re a big softy.”
“Sure, and you’ve gone crazy from lack of sleep.”
Dawn handed the now empty mug back to Jack before climbing down the ladder to walk into his house and right the spare bedroom. Jack watched the stars for a minute before talking, “I know she can take care of her self and the marines really are good guys, but I still worry about her. Like she said, we won’t be out there with her. So if you could Charlie, could you watch over for her, please? Love ya kid.”
