A Hole in the Ground (CSI, PG, prompt #110); Enigma (Three Rivers, PG, prompt #106)
Title: A Hole in the Ground
Characters/Pairings: Nick, Greg, Riley
Word Count: 272
Challenge/Prompt: #110 - faith
Summary: Nick misses the days when things were simpler.
Sometimes, when Nick felt like the entire world was crashing in on his being, he would go back to that place. The place where he had almost died, and it had been Warrick, and it had been Grissom, that had pulled him back from the abyss that he was just so ready to lose himself to. Both were gone now, leaving him here all alone. Warrick taken by a bullet, and Grissom had been taken by his own inability to handle it anymore.
That only left Nick. Catherine was there, of course, being her normal supervisor self. But it wasn’t her that everybody was looking to for guidance. Nick was the lesser of the two supervisors; he was supposed to be the laidback cool guy that was on level with everybody else. He was the one that had taken Grissom’s office that had somehow become his office and split it into three instead.
That hadn’t been act of selflessness. It had been an act of desperation.
He couldn’t be alone, and he couldn’t stand the thought of losing anymore of his team – of his friends – of his family.
He looked to Greg who had so much optimism even now, who lived each day to the fullest, and he found himself jealous. Then there was Riley, who was so darn jaded, but it was for reasons that he bet even she didn’t understand, and he was jealous of that, too.
He missed the days when everything was possible and everything was skeptical. That was when things were simpler. That was when all his worries could be found in a hole in the ground.
Fandom: Three Rivers
Characters/Pairings: David, Miranda
Word Count: 180
Challenge/Prompt: #106 - pulse
Summary: David sees Miranda as an enigma.
Miranda was an enigma. Pretty much the entire hospital staff knew it. Even the new guy, Ryan, was awed by Miranda, even if he didn’t realize it. He was just mistaking his awe for terror, and really, David couldn’t blame him. Every day, she walked through the halls of Three Rivers as though she either owned the place or planned to blow it up.
And, really, David wouldn’t really be surprised to see her do either of the two one day. One day, though. Not today.
David made the mistake of telling Ryan that little tidbit. He realized that the new and inexperienced intern wasn’t quite looking at Miranda the same way anymore. To be honest, it more amused him than made him feel bad. After all, the beautiful and yet cold Miranda Foster probably found more amusement out of this turn of events more than anything.
She liked to screw with people’s minds, whether they were patients or coworkers.
And David? Well, he liked throwing himself out there to be messed with. Anything to get their blood pressure pumping.
