Glorious (Supernatural, prompt #41) Title: Glorious Fandom:Supernatural Characters/Pairing: Jo Rating: PG Word Count: 191 Challenge/Prompt: #41: red Summary: The feel of it.
The feel of it is what gets to Jo, the solid crunch of bone under her boot when she kicks, the rubbery resistance of flesh that gives way beneath her knife. The recoil of the salt-laden shotgun as it pounds her shoulder again and again, forming bruises so deep they never seem to go away.
She understands, now, understands the hunt and how it's not just about saving people, it's about the rush, about being addicted.
Ghosts are fine, but she likes creatures best, demons even better. Things of substance, things that bleed, red and bright, things that scream when she kills them. She salivates at the very thought, aches between her legs when she polishes her knife, cleans her gun.
She goes home, and her mom shakes her head. She can see it in Jo's eyes. They all can. "You've gotten hard, Jo," says Ellen. "Too hard."
"Sure, Mom," says Jo. But yes, she thinks, yes. I'm hard and sleek and strong and one day I'll die and it'll be worth it. It'll all have been worth it.
It will be glorious, she thinks, and she smiles, her tongue pressed sharp behind her white teeth. Glorious.
