Getting It (NCIS, prompt #36) Title: Getting It Fandom: NCIS Characters/Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo Rating: PG Word Count: 285 Challenge/Prompt: #36 - slow Summary: Tony has some catching up to do.
"I want this crime scene protected, people," yells Gibbs as the rain starts to fall, sudden and heavy. "Now!"
"On it, boss," says Tony, scrambling with McGee to set up the portable shelter they keep stashed in the van. Heavy white tarp draped over a light metal frame that covers the body and Ducky, but the evidence is washing away fast, so Tony sketches and measures and notes, wrinkling his nose as the rain fills his shoes and runs down his back.
"You might need some help getting out of those wet clothes, DiNozzo," says a voice, soft and close in his ear.
"Yes, boss," says Tony, automatically, without thinking, spinning around to face Gibbs, who smirks, just barely, like he knows a secret, and Tony smiles back, genial and stupid, until his brain gets with the program and does the mother of all double-takes because Gibbs just said... holy shit, did Gibbs just say what Tony thinks he said?
His mouth open and closes and he can't even speak and he must look like some demented crazy... fish man or something, but Gibbs merely raises his eyebrows and waits, patiently, for Tony to catch up. Gibbs has been waiting a long time, Tony suddenly realises, for that, for him to catch up, to get it. "Sure, boss. I... yeah. Pneumonia and... stuff. Wet clothes, yeah."
"Good," says Gibbs, taking a sip of coffee and turning to walk away. "Maybe I'll see you tonight, then," he says, without looking back.
And Tony's again with the fish man face but he manages to call out, "I'll be there, boss," and Gibbs raises his hand in acknowledgement. It's still raining but Tony doesn't even feel it.
