Something like deja vu (OPEN)
Opening his eyes, Shinji took a deep breath, sitting up slowly and doing his best to ignore the wave of nausea that overcame him as he moved his head. Glancing down at his clothing, he noted he was still in his uniform, and it was still grubby. Raising a hand to his neck, he discovered the metal collar he had been assured would be a permanent placement for 72 hours until he either died, or won the game, was not there. He certainly didn't appear to be dead (and if the men drugging him - if his memory was correct - certainly leant towards him being alive), but that in itself begged the question of why. The government wouldn't have just let someone live out of the kindness of their hearts, and he highly doubted there was any method of fixing the game, and even if there were... He wouldn't be someone they'd allow to survive. He was sure he was high up on their list of 'liabilities', especially after the stunts he'd tried to pull.

Brow creasing in thought, he stood up slowly, testing his limbs. Everything seemed to be working, he wasn't in any particular pain, the only thing that was bothering him was where he was, and why. It was mostly the why. Turning his attention to his surroundings, he studied the buildings with interest; they certainly weren't any he'd seen in Japan, and the one or two occurrences of writing he could see was in English. Whilst it wouldn't pose a problem (he knew English), he just wasn't convinced his accent was all that great. In a class, Yutaka had once commented that they must something akin to rubbish bins rolling down a hill.

Yutaka... Shinji presumed the other boy must be dead, along with all of the other students from his school bar one. He wondered idly who won, how they'd looked in front of the camera that announced them winning, whether they wore the same glazed and blank expression each of the previous winners had worn. There wasn't anything he could do about it now (unless this was some continuation of the game).

Taking several cautionary steps forward, Shinji decided the first thing to do would be to find somewhere to claim as shelter - at least for the time being - and then work out what precisely was going on. Clearly, he couldn't trust anyone (but that had been a given before he'd woken here), and he needed to find out what his circumstances were, and how likely he was going to be killed by anyone he might encounter. The latter was the more pressing matter at hand.

J.D. had awoken moments ago but aside from sitting up he hadn't moved from the sidewalk he had found himself on. He knew he should be scoping out his current location, trying to establish contact with his unit, or even just try to figure out where the hell he wasn't but J.D. couldn't move. He couldn't understand what had just happened. The last that he remembered was being hauled into a room full of fucking zombies. Rain's hand tightly gripped on his until she was forced to let go as the monsters took J.D. away. I was a goner, I was fucking dead...I should be dead by all accounts. Yet I'm not. Something had happened in that room but the solider couldn't remember for the life of him.

Snap out of this and pull yourself together man! He was alive, that was the most important thing now and if J.D. wanted to stay alive then he had better get the fuck off his ass and find out what was on the go. The soldier's legs were a bit shaky as he climbed to his feet but that passed quickly as J.D. surveyed his surroundings. If he didn't know better, this was Raccoon city. Wait, is it the city? It certainly looked like the city but there wasn't any people.

"Shit", he breathed. "Something is wrong here". No shit J.D., what was your first clue? Then a movement caught the soldier's eye. A male up ahead with dark hair. J.D. opened his mouth to call but closed it quickly. What if this kid was zombie? "Only one way to find out", J.D. muttered to himself before calling out in a louder voice: "Hey kid!"

At the sound of a voice, Shinji spun round, attempting to locate the speaker, eyes widening automatically. He hadn't expected to be noticed quite so soon (on reflection, he wondered just why he hadn't expected it; he wasn't in what he expected to be the safest of situations). Taking in the mans appearance as his gaze settled on him, he noted that he was western, and both taller and with a heavier build, not to mentioned older. If this was in any related to the game, Shinji wouldn't stand a chance.

Tensing his muscles, Shinji was prepared to run should the situation call for it (he wasn't armed, and he wasn't anywhere near enough of an idiot to try and hold his own in a situation that he wasn't suited to).

If he was honest, he wasn't entirely certain why the man had called out to him, and he had even less of an idea as how to adequately respond; he was more than a tad outside of his comfort zone, and he really didn't know what to expect at this point in time. Even when it had first been evident they were to take part in that years BR, he'd known, to a certain extent, just what was going to happen. Here, he had no clue, and he was coupled with a foreign language.

Not his idea of an ideal circumstance.

As a result, the boy remained silent, staring at the figure. He figured if the man wanted him for any particular reason, he'd speak again, if not, Shinji would move on his way (although quite how he planned to find people to talk to when he was expecting to be able to trust no one, he wasn't sure).

The kid just stopped and looked at which was a little weird but not surprising. J.D. knew how he must look to the boy with his black uniform on with the Umbrella logo. It screamed military or black opts but what were you going to do? It was half Kevlar and this uniform had saved his life a few times before. J.D. just wished that some of his weapons had been there when he woke up to. Deciding not to freak the kid out any further, J.D. spoke in a calm rational tone like had be taught in past training. Deal with the civilians nicely but firmly, he silently repeated as he opened his mouth.

“Hi. My name is J.D. and I work with the U.B.C.S.”, he informed the boy, automatically assuming that this boy knew what U.B.C.S meant but that was a logical assumption since it looked like they were in Raccoon City. “I’m a little lost at the moment”, J.D. continued as he cautiously approached the boy, watching for any sudden movements or signs that this guy was a zombie. No glazed look in the eyes and no rotting flesh but if the kid didn’t say something soon J.D was going to boot it just to be sure. He was NOT going to grabbed by another gang of zombies, no way no day. “Could you tell me where the closest phone is to?” he asked with a simple plan in mind. Find a phone and call headquarters. Someone there had to know what the hell was going.

Maybe they could explain how the fuck I got out of the Hive.
