    Title: Reciprocity
    Author: Alex
    Rating: NC-17
    Pairing: Q/O, Q/X, O/X, X/pretty much everyone
Summary: Umak Leth wants to test a new invention; a bored Xanatos seizes the opportunity and becomes her willing subject. Mayhem ensues.

Reasons for recommending: This is my bonus rec, so I’m choosing this story in honor of Alex finally being released from the clutches of modern medicine--yay! Also, because it’s the one story that never fails to make me laugh out loud, frequently. It’s an uproariously funny take on the old body-switching idea. And it has little to do with canon characterization, which is another reason I love it so--Alex’s Xanatos is far more fun than anyone else’s, and in this story he’s just delicious.

    See Me by KatBear

    Original poster: obi_ki

    Title See Me
    Author KatBear
    Rating PG
    Pairing Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan/Other
Summary Obi-Wan finds that growing up is a little harder than he thought.

    Warnings None

    Author's email katbear@cox.net

    Link to Story http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/s/see_me.html

Reason for Recommending This is a great tale that explores Obi-Wan's coming of age, dealing with his Jedi life but mixed with a heavy sprinkling of the normal problems that occur between teenage boys and their guardians during adolecence. Misunderstandings, miscommunications, manipulations, tempers and hurt feelings abound, as Obi-Wan attempts to prove that he's grown up. A wonderful long read, one that you can easily get wrapped up in.

    Catenatus by Tem've H'syan

    Original poster: gaiaeagle

    Title: Catenatus
    Author: Tem've H'syan
    Rating: NC-17
    Pairings: Qui/Xanatos, Qui/Obi
Summery: Companion piece to the Naming Days series, and shamelessly Qui-centric! Zine reprint from the excellent Rituals and Meditations. Here be non-con and sexual torture, and messy food sex to make up for it.
    Warnings: Non listed

    Author's e-mail and webpage: tem-ve@gmx.de, http://www.tem-ve.de/

    Link to the story: http://www.tem-ve.de/fic/catenatus.html

Reasons for recommending: I loved this story because it gave little windows into Qui's life on some of his naming days. Every year, Qui gets a tattoo of a link that forms a chain around his body. I thought it was a unique concept to see who gives the tattoo each time, and the feelings behind it. The ending is what I remember the most. Can't tell though, wouldn't want to spoil it for those that haven't read it.

Sorry this one is a couple of weeks late, Holidays happened, and I was out of town for a bit.

    Title: My Aikani
    Author: Susan Anthony
    Raiting: NC-17
    Pairing: Obi/Xanatos
Summery: The future is always in motion and Obi-Wan's path is not as certain as it seems.
Warnings: Obi-Wan is seventeen in this story, Xanatos is thirty-three

    Author's e-mail, web site and/or LJ id:

Reasons for recommending: This fic is a gem. This is one of the stories that makes me see Xanatos in a completely different light. After reading most of the Jedi Apprentice series of books, I'd never thought I would actually like him. But once again, special stories like this one, helped change my feelings for him.

Obi gets kidnapped by Xanatos (nothing new) but the reasons behind the kidnapping are. I wish I could say more, but it would give away the plot. Just read it. *smiles*

    finding previous recs

    Original poster: darththalia

Just FYI, there are three ways to get a list of previously-posted recs:

On the [info]tpm_flashback memories page, there's a "recs by author" category. It sorts by date by default, but if you sort by description it will sort by author.

On my memories page, there's a "tpm_flashback recs by title" category that works the same way. Sorting by description will give you a list in title order.

Finally, there's a list of recs by reccer in the [info]tpmf_reccerrecs journal. This journal's memories will also have a category for each reccer as I get around to adding entries.

    Hope you find this useful.

schedule change, recs by reccer, and other admin stuff

    Original poster: darththalia

    Happy New Year, everyone!

First, because our current group of reccers is a bit behind (thanks mostly to the December holidays, I'm sure, except for poor [info]splix), I'm adding another week to the schedule. The next round was supposed to start on Tuesday, January 11, but I'm pushing the start back to Tuesday, January 18. So, current reccers, please try to get caught up between now and January 17.

[info]obi_ki and [info]hominysnark, you're welcome to post on your normal days during the extra week, if you'd like, as a reward for being on the ball. [g]

I believe the current numbers are:
    [info]saxony - 5
    [info]obi_ki - 7
    [info]elance - 0
    [info]emmagrant01- 2
    [info]gaiaeagle - 5
    [info]splix - 2
    [info]hominysnark - 6

If y'all could try to get some in before Jan. 17, that would be great, but don't feel like you have to do them all. And thanks for your work during the holiday season! I know how tough it is to get things done then.

I'll post the call for the next round of reccers toward the end of this week.

In other news, on a terrific suggestion from [info]gloriana, there's now a memories list of recs by reccer, so if you're fond of recs from a particular person, it'll be easy to track down other stories they've recced. This list, like the others, is accessible from the main [info]tpm_flashback page.

As time permits, I'll try to set up a separate memory category for each reccer, to make browsing easier. Along those lines, is there anything I can do to make the recs by title and recs by author lists easier to use?

Finally, just a reminder that comments on recs are always welcome--either actual story discussion or just "Yay!"s. Reccers are always happy to hear that their recs are appreciated.

    Hidden, by Trudy West

    Title: Hidden
    Author: Trudy West
    Rating: NC-17
    Pairing: Q/O
Summary: Recovering back at the Temple after the events on Naboo, Qui-Gon keeps thinking about Obi-Wan but has trouble figuring out why.
    Warnings:None

    Author's e-mail, web site and/or LJ id: truwest@hotmail.com, [info]truwest

    Link to story: http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/h/hidden.html

Reasons for recommending: A lovely, juicy exploration of Qui-Gon’s psyche post-Naboo. Told from Qui-Gon’s POV, this story shows him dealing with a multitude of issues--his own mortality, growing older, what direction his life should take, loneliness now that Obi-Wan is knighted and out on his own. And yet it never really devolves into high drama or angst. It’s a quiet story, thoughtful and contemplative, with just the right blend of humor, romance and poignancy.

Always in motion is the future.

    Warnings None

    Reason for Recommending
Emila provides a unique twist on this first time story, her choice of catalyst to get the boyz to reveal their feelings is definitely unique. Unlike many other first time pieces, their eventual union has it's share of realistic complications that make the scene even more erotic than if everything had gone perfectly.

    Pairing Q/O
    Summary
As Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon become lovers in addition to the other aspects of their relationship, Obi-Wan takes up a custom from his homeworld and begins a lover's journal, putting to paper moments from their years together.

    Link to Story http://home.mindspring.com/~writestufflee/KaMnemonIndex.html

    Reason for recommending
Written originally in Zine form, with this story Writestuff and Moonshine created something that is more than just a tale of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. With all the pictures and relics posted alongside the story on the website, the reader is transported to another place and time as they read through the series of short entries that allow us a glimpse into the lives of the two Jedi. Intimate encounters and missions gone bad share space over the pages and give insight into how difficult the balance of their lives would have been.

A Bit of Obi-Wan, by Hilary

    Original poster: hominysnark

    Title: A Bit of Obi-Wan
    Author: Hilary
    Rating: NC-17
    Pairing: Q/O
Summary: Qui-Gon observes his padawan. There's a bit of Qui worship in the Obi worship here.
    Warnings: None

    Author's e-mail, web site and/or LJ id: padawanhilary@gonwan.com, [info]padawanhilary

    Link to story: http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/b/bit.html

Reasons for recommending: This is another PWP with a little something extra, and in this case, it’s the details that elevate the fluff into something more resonant. The care with which Hilary describes Obi-Wan (from Qui-Gon’s point of view) makes me fall in love with these characters all over again. The plot is essentially mundane--Obi-Wan making dinner--but it’s the attention to detail, on both the characters and Hilary’s part, that makes it stand out.

Hilary doesn’t include any warnings, but I’ll add this caveat--don’t read it if you’re hungry.

    Warnings: None

    Author's e-mail, web site and/or LJ id: wildestdreams@subdimension.com

Reasons for recommending: I am stunned and amazed this one hasn’t been recced yet--or anything else by Wednesday, whom I consider to be one of the finest Q/O writers out there.

This was one of the first stories I saved to my hard drive, because I knew I’d want to read it again and again, and I have, many times since that first magical reading. It’s the story of what happens when Qui-Gon has his heart broken yet again, and Obi-Wan decides to do something about it once and for all.

The hot man-on-man action isn’t the heart of this story, or even the payoff, really--it’s just a bonus. The joy of this story is watching the very real and very deep friendship between these two men quicken into something more.

Warnings Spoilers for the first eight JA Books and TPM, especially the ending.

Reason for Recommending There are a good number of stories that have Obi-Wan doing something to go back and change the past after the events of TPM but this is the only one I know of where Qui-Gon in the initiator of the change. Raina creates a full and detailed alternate existence for Obi-Wan, making him a succesful and well balanced Knight, as well as very diffrent life for Qui-Gon, but fate and the Force seeks to correct the changes that Qui-Gon plea has brought forth. Title: Ward
    Author: Cathy
    Rating: PG-13
    Pairing: None, Gen fic
Summery: A well-meaning visitor from another galaxy 'rescues' Obi-Wan from the Palace -- how will he get back to Qui-Gon? In the meantime Xanatos wants his new friends' starship with all its foreign technology for himself -- and Obi-Wan is the only one who has a chance of stopping him. But will his new guardians understand, when he can't explain? Will they trust an alien child?

Warnings: Possible spoilers to JA up until JA#8.

    Author's e-mail address: cathypauline@yahoo.com

    Link to the story: http://jafd.nsio.net/archive/cathy/ward.html

Reason for recommending: I'm recommending this fic for a couple of reasons. One, we do not have nearly enough gen fics rec'd here. And two, this is a wonderful crossover fic with Star Trek: The Next Generation. I'm always a sucker for a good crossover fic. One of the things I loved most about this fic was seeing the interactions between a 13 year old Obi-Wan and the characters I loved from the Star Trek series. The characterizations were wonderful on both sides.

The one is a sequal to another fic called 'Seekers'. I recommend reading the first fic, but I understood 'Ward' without reading it.

Title: L'Histoire d' Obi (The Story of Obi)
    Author: Lilith Sedai
    Rating: NC-17
    Paring: Q/O
Summary: Obi-Wan neglects to pay careful attention to a briefing, agrees to accept an unusual mission assignment, and lets himself and Qui-Gon in for more trouble than either of them bargained for.

    Warnings:... )

    Link to the story: http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/l/lhistoire.html

Reasons for recommending: When I first volunteered to be rec'er for this, I went seaching for fics that I could recommend, and found that this fic had not been rec'ed here. I thought, "How could this be possible?" This is one of those truely wonderful fics that just about everyone has read and loved. Qui and Obi get sent on a mission where Qui and Obi have to act as Master/pleasure slave. Not an unfamiliar concept in this fandom, but what happens to them both while they are on mission and what happens afterwards is unique. I can't say more because I don't want to give away the ending, but you find out that there is a lot more to Obi than meets the eye. Which is one of the reasons I love this story so much. Obi is not the weak padawan that some people make him out to be, but instead a strong Jedi, that is willing to do whatever it takes to complete his mission, even if it costs him his freedom.

    Reasons for recommending:
You have to wait a while for the money shot, but this story builds to a very satisfying conclusion. There is a lot detail of Obi-Wan trying to carry out his mission, but it's pertinent to the plot and it's nice to see him handling his Jedi duties competently and how you'd expect Obi-Wan to handle things. There's a twist, of sorts, but you're let in on it from early on. Of course, Obi-Wan is unusual and does the unpredictable, and even though the outcome is pretty much a foregone conclusion it's very satisfying seeing him get there. Oh yeah, and Mace gets called a Slabobian bowl worm. :)

Reasons for recommending: This story is pure warm fluff, and I love it. On a cold, rainy night, Qui-Gon sits in his favorite chair and reminisces about his three very different padawans. The way all three of them interact with the chair speaks volumes about their personalities, and also about how they interact with their master. It’s very neatly done, and I guarantee you’ll finish up the story smiling.

    Title Obi-Wan's Trails
    Author Anne Higgins
    Rating NC17

Summary A simple act on Obi-Wan's part changes everything and makes returning to Naboo unnecessary, but the Sith and Anakin Skywalker still must be dealt with.

Reason for Recommending I really like stories that twist the events of TPM, and this one changes things dramatically with just one minor change to the series of events that occur as they are escaping from Naboo. Anne uses Obi-Wan's insecurity as a tool in the story but does it in such way that it helps him to grow and develop and also becomes a conduit for his relationship with Anakin.

    Link to story: http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/b/blind_mans_bluff.html

Reasons for recommending: I’m a sucker for first-time stories, and I especially like the ones where the motivation is not just UST--I like characters who know what they want, why they want it, and make conscious decisions based on those wants. Yes, getting swept away by passion is great, but if you make the choice to dip your foot in the torrent, so much the better.

In this one, Obi-Wan is suffering from the I-loff-my-Master blues, but thankfully doesn’t dwell on them for longer than a sentence or two. Instead, he decides to play a game the locals enjoy, a simple kissing game that quickly turns into something more serious, and perhaps more than he’s ready for. Torn between the option of continuing the game, or returning to his beloved Master’s side, Obi-Wan decides to love the one he’s with. Meanwhile, Qui-Gon has made his own decision ….

Reason for recomending: This is one of those sweet, romantic stories that everyone needs once in a while. Obi places memories of his training with Qui in different stones. Then on their 10th anniversity of being master and padawan, Obi sends Qui on a scavenger hunt through the temple, allowing his master to see these memories from his perspective.
