Nell clutched the letter. He could make out a few of the words – his name, and Miss Constance’s mostly – but a peak in the boxes had told him what the letter most likely said. All the beautiful things she’d packed up for him, for the theatre, they were simply stunning. There was more here than they could afford in a year and made of the most sumptuous fabrics.

“Harry! Harry.” He called. “Look what Miss Constance has sent us! Look!”

Harry wandered into the foyer of the theatre, more than aware of the buzz around the place, the noise from the front doors. Not a riot, he knew that, was the majority of the noise, he could tell, came from one particularly excited young man. "Early Christmas present, is it?" He asked, glancing over the trunks and smiling slightly. "What has she sent us, Nell?"

Nell reached into one of the boxes, drawing out a beautiful gown of buttery-yellow. "All the girls old dresses, Harry, for costumes in our shows! Aren't they beautiful?" He held the dress out for Harry to feel how soft it was and to admire the stitching and craft that had gone into it.

“Miss Constance said I could have them but I thought she’d forgotten. And she sent a letter, Harry.” He pressed it into the other man’s hand. “Read it to me.”

Harry had to agree. They were beautiful, all of them, but would clearly need a bit of taking in, some hemming and then they would be prefect. But he could hardly think that they would suit anyone but Nell. They'd certainly need more storage for these, they couldn't be kept folded, not unless the boys didn't mind having creased costumes... but then again, some of them were far far too beautiful to simply be costumes.

He took the letter, smiling at the boy, "Dear Nell, As promised I have sent these trunks for you and the other boys to incorporate into the theatres wardrobe." He read, "There are three on top, she writes," He said, a hint of amusement in his voice, "tied with a purple ribbon on the cuff that I held back for you as I hoped you would like them yourself. If you do not, I take no offence should you choose to include them with all the others to share. I hope to see you soon, yours fondly, Miss Constance Mosley." He said, folding the sheet of paper again, handing it back, "She's been very kind, Nell. You should write and thank her. I'll help."

"Three just for my own?" Nell said, peeking into the box again to see them. "Oh, they're lovely." He looked up at Harry, smiling widely. "I will, Harry. Do you want to write to her too? After all, we won't have to buy costumes for a year!"

"That's what the letter says." Harry told him, "Three for your very own, although I don't think Miss Mosley would object to you keeping one or two others that caught your eye too." He said, stepping closer and peering into the trunks. Nell was right, they wouldn't have to buy anything new for a year, although most of these dresses were too good just for the shows. "Well, Nell, you haven't done too badly, have you? Although we better have a tailor alter these to fit you..."

Nell nodded, still rather intent upon the pretty fabrics to pay too much attention to Harry. "The tailor? Yes, I suppose we will. Needs to come in a little here, and here, but out a little there" He murmured, stroking over the bodice of the gown.

He smiled, letting Nell gaze over the boxes of dresses again. No one had given him a present like this before, not of this size. True, the jewellery, some of it, had been expensive, but that was from clients. This was a gift of a completely different nature, with nothing expected in return. "Looks like you've got a good friend in Miss Mosley." He said, picking up one of the dresses and looking over it, "With very good taste too."

"Of course Constance would have good taste," Nell said, stroking his fingers again over the soft fabric. "She's always very well turned out, isn't she?"
