Who: Evander Rycroft
What: Feeling Better
When: Evening at the Bridge Theatre after the evening performance
Open to Robin; Harry and Nell if they choose, any of the other boys

Evander had been feeling much better and was excited for the new play. He'd kept to the shadows as much as possible, and hid out when necessary. He couldn't get caught, it would come down bad on Robin if he was and Robin had been so nice to him and taking care of him.

He watched from the side stage, crouched low and small but with enough space to see everything. Robin and Nell were very good, and Evander could see why Nell was the talk of the place. He was undeniably pretty and a very good actor too, but Evander watched Robin and thought he was a wonderful Romeo.

Once the performance was over, Evander scrambled to leave the stage area and get back down the corridor before everyone else. He ran into the spare room and carefully hid in the back of the wardrobe, just in case Robin wasn't alone when he came in. He would have rather hid in Robin's room but if he was preoccupied, the last Evander wanted to do was spy on him, though he was very happy to watch him. But sometimes, Robin did have a job to do, and Evander understood that.

There were still a few bruises and hadn't healed but hiding away wasn't so difficult as it was in the beginning. Now that he was feeling better, Evander needed to find a way to proper apologise to Nell as well. His behaviour and words at the first meeting left Evander with a great deal of embarrassment and shame. He could have told Harry about him and he hadn't, and that meant a lot to Evander. He would have to ask Robin the best way to take care of that.

Harry stroked over Nell's cheek, fingers brushing over the soft, flushed skin, other arm wrapped tightly around the boy's nipped-in waist. "Come on, Nell." He murmured into the boy's ear, opening the door and then stroking over the boy's cheek once more, trying to coax him into agreement. "You did very well Nell. You were fantastic. My beautiful, talented little star." He said, steering Nell into the spare room, leaning down to press a kiss against the boy's neck.

Nell smiled, brushing his hair away from his face.
"Thanks." He muttered softly.
He didn't want to be in the spare room, he hadn't been back in here since that new boy had shown up. He had no idea were Evander was at the moment but he didn't want Harry finding him, or worse the boy thinking he'd purposely brought him here.

He stepped away from Harry, looking around for any sign of the other boy.
"Harry, don't I have anyone to see this evening? I know the ambassador was asking about me."

As Nell stepped backwards, Harry followed, placing his hands firmly on Nell's hips, holding him still and preventing any further escape. "The Ambassador knows you're busy." Harry told him, hands slipping down over Nell's hips and backside. "You don't have any time for me anymore, Nell. Make time for me." He said, his head again tipping to press a series of kisses over the boy's jaw and throat.

"Harry," Nell said forcefully. "Do you mean you didn't book any clients to see me? Harry, its opening night." He pushed Harry's hand away, not wanting to be touched. He had to get out of this room, before Harry realised it wasn't as empty and unused as it appeared, but he was also furious with Harry. "I do make time for you. What are you talking about?"

"I've booked clients for you later. But you need a few minutes, I need a few minutes with you now." He explains, letting his grip loosen. "We've not had any time together. Alone." He said, and let go of Nell's hips completely, moving instead to unfasten the button's on Nell's costume. "A few minutes. That's all, Nell. A few minutes with you is all I want, little star."

Nell sighed softly, letting Harry undress him. Removing his costume couldn't hurt, and he didn't want it getting ruined or messed.
"Why did you turn the ambassador away?" He asked softly.

"Because he didn't make the best offer for your company tonight. You're worth far more than he was willing to part with." Harry explained, letting the boy slip out of his costume, and carefully taking it from him, moving to the wardrobe to hang it. "Sometimes I worry that you like that Ambassador too much." Harry said, opening the wardrobe door as he glanced back over his shoulder at Nell, and then turned back to hang the costume, eyes widening as he saw the figure hiden in the back. "What the hell?" He said, before reaching in and dragging out the little blonde, dropping the costume as he glared at the blonde. "Who on earth are you? What are you doing here?"

Evander tried to be quiet when the door opened to the room. He didn't jump right out and it was a good thing too. What was Nell doing here, and with... oh it was Harry. He'd been in the Theatre long enough to recognise him and Evander's eyes grew wide as he tried to move further back in the wardrobe.

Oh where was Robin?

Suddenly the door was opened and he found himself yanked out, a tight hand around his arm. Had Nell told on him after all? They didn't get along but Evander didn't think he would be so mean.

"I.... I'm sorry. Please don't hurt me. I didn't mean any harm." Evander cowered, trying not to show any defiance or uncooperative behaviour. Harry was in charge; Harry was authority. Evander had learned this lesson far too many times and did not relish the punishment that came for disobeying. "Please don't hurt me. I'm sorry."

"Harry, don't" Nell gasped, grabbing onto Harry's arm to try and make him let go of the other boy. He was greatful that even without his costume he still had the undershift and skirts on or he would feel humiliated as well as afraid. "Please, please let him go, Harry. Please...I can explain."

The scene appeared to unfold in slow motion infront of Robin's eyes - after strolling along with a carefree skip and wiping off his stage make up, wanting to see if Evander needed company or if he had seen the play, he saw the blonde boy yanked from his hiding place by none other than Harry, sending his good mood plummeting. Rushing to defend his new friend Robin jostled infront of Harry, his eyes pleading.

"He's mine! I mean he's my fault! Harry, sir, he only came here cause of me, he's no harm to anyone - he was beaten up... I took him in and fed him off my own wages, sir... he's not scrounging off us, I promise sir..."

Harry frowned, looking back from the blonde boy to Robin and Nell. "Right, right." He said, "Nell, shut that door, and bolt it." He said, not letting go of the boy until the door was shut, and he moved to put himself firmly between the boys and the door. "You, you and you." Harry pointed to each of the boys in turn. "Have a lot of explaining to do. And I suggest you start now, otherwise all of you will be in serious trouble, especially you, young man." He said, attention focusing on Evander.

"You're going to tell me who you are, why you're here, and how long you've been here. You're going to tell me if Slater sent you here, and why these two have kept you a secret."

Evander was terrified, even more than getting mugged in the alley. Harry was imposing and Evander knew he'd been in the wrong, sneaking around his place, and now he might have gotten Nell and Robin in trouble. And for that he felt worse than anything.

He didn't dare look up to Harry yet as he gathered his words. "They were only being nice to me. They helped me when I got hurt. It was my idea to sneak in here. Please don't hurt them for being nice." He had pulled away a little and his tunic had pulled down his shoulder a bit, the bruising still somewhat visible when his back had hit the side of the Theatre outside. But under those, and around them, were a trail of criss crossing not quite faded red marks. There were reasons he'd never changed clothes around Robin, or anyone else in a long time.

Evander tugged at his sleeve to pull it back up as Harry let him go, and he stood up, backing up against toward the wardrobe. "M-my name is Evander. Evander Rycroft. I can pay for staying here... I can get money. I don't know any Slater. I got hurt and snuck inside to get away. I didn't know anyone was here and then they found me," he said looking from Nell to Robin and back to Harry. "I know it was wrong to stay here for so long, even once I was better but I didn't know where else to go. I got lost and it was safe here."

Nell obediently did as he was told, bolting the door and turning back to watch Harry, licking his lips which were suddenly dry.
“Harry, you know I wouldn’t let anyone from Slater’s lot round here, that I’d tell you. It was just...he was hurt and it all happened so sudden and we thought he could stay here for a little while, till he was better.” He bit his lip, looking down at his feet. He wouldn’t say it was Robin’s idea, even though it had been. He’d kept it a secret and covered for the both of them, he was as involved and he wasn’t a snitch. He’d take his share of any punishment Harry had for them.

"I thought he could stay here..." Robin corrected Nell, "I'm sorry for dragging Nell into this but Evander's not a bad person, Harry. He really was in a bad way and I didn't want to risk him being out on the streets... it's not nice out there," he said in an undertone, remembering his first day in London's back streets.

"You, Robin, better be carefully where you step." Harry warned, still privately angry that Robin had snuck into his office and stolen from him, broken into his office. "I don't care whose idea it was, you're both as bad as each other."

He sighed, pushing his hair from his eyes and looked at the bruised and battered blonde boy. "You. Evander. Have you been to see a doctor?" He asked, gesturing then to the boy's bruised shoulders. No doubt the lad had a few more besides. If he wasn't one of Slater's lads, then there wasn't so much of an immediate problem, and the best thing to do was to make sure he didn’t drop dead right there in front of them. “Where’d you get beat up? Remember what they looked like?”

“Nell, you don’t think we’ll need the spare room for a little while, do you? Evander can stay here without hiding under the beds or in more wardrobes.”

Evander glanced at Robin. He didn't like how Harry sounded; Robin had already been in trouble and now he wasn't helping. "No please, I shouldn't have imposed. They are good lads, both of them."

He dropped his head, shaking it back and forth. "No, no doctors." Evander pulled his clothes tighter around him. "I'll be okay. I heal quickly; I always heal fast." He pushed his hair out of his face and looked at Harry. "It was outside, down the alley about a week ago. And I'd never forget them. One was taller than the other, but didn't seem to be from around here. One looked like he worked on the docks.... l-like a sailor only not with the uniform."

Looking at Nell, Evander was surprised. "Stay? You mean it sir? I'll do whatever you order and you'll not hear a complaint, I promise."

Nell glanced up, surprised to hear Harry say that, or even ask his opinion on the matter.
"Well, no...no we won't need the room, Harry. Not if Evander's going to be staying in it." He gave the other boy a lop-sided smile.

"I don't order, Evander, I make suggestions." He explains, "And you are welcome to stay here. They'll be rent, unless you want to work. No doubt Nell and Robin have told you enough about that. You'd be safer working in here rather than out on the streets, and richer too by the end of the month. Nell can give you the sales pitch, can't you?" The room was empty, after all, and Evander wasn't a bad looking boy, not at all. And an empty room didn't cost him anything, but didn't earn him anything either, Harry knew. Filling it with a good-looking blonde would at least be paying back what Harry had already spent on feeding the hide-away.

"No thugs or pickpockets work around here without answering to me, Evander." Harry told the blonde, "And attacking you in the back-alley right next to the Theatre is damnable cheek. Slater's getting too big for his boots." He could feel the anger growing in him, glowing red hot. Best to put Slater and his pathetic attempts to take over the Theatre out of his mind. "You ought to see a doctor. But before then we'll get you some stuff to get that bruising down."

Nell was still trying to understand what was going on. They had been so sure Harry would be angry with them or punish them but he'd taken the fact that they had hide a stranger in the theatre particularly well. He glanced up at Evander, smiling.
"Of course I can." He said, although he didn't feel comfortable beginning the sales pitch with Harry or Robin there.

vander still kept his arms around his body but looked not so scared looking from Robin to Nell and then to Harry. He nodded. "I can work. I can earn my keep. I haven't been paid for it before but I can do what you want me to. And I don't eat much so you don't have to worry about that." He smiled at Nell. What kind of sales pitch could there be?

He was confused and would have to ask the boys about it later. "I don't know a Slater but the boys, they were very old, not much more than me I think." Evander stepped back a little; Harry said it was alright that he stayed, and scolded the boys but seemed SO angry. Brushing his hair out of his face, Evander chewed on his bottom lip. "I'm okay now, I do not need a doctor. I can just stay covered until the bruising fades more."

Evander smiled at Nell. He hoped he wouldn't be upset that Harry asked him to stay. Evander still hadn't found the proper time to my proper apologies to Nell and he felt bad for it.
