Lord Hurst, Making an Arrangement
Subject: Making an Arrangement
Where: Bailston Abbey
Who: Lord Tobias Hurst
Warnings: TBA, discussion of NC-17 rated topics
Open to: Aimé Laurent, Antoine Laurent

Hurst had to admit the boy was attractive. Not only attractive, but polite and smart and educated. Aimé was of a good family too, which made him all the more suitable.

Aimé had disappeared for a moment during the dancing, but he was soon back, with this brother, and Hurst wondered if they were discussing the arrangement that they would be making tonight. At least, they would be soon. He crossed the room, careful not to be caught again by any of his guests, and smiled at the two Laurent brothers. "Ah, Monsieurs, I hope you are enjoying yourselves." He greeted, inclining his head to the pair. "I was hoping, Aimé, that I could have a private word with you? About horses?" He added, with a half-smile. "I promise I will not steal you away from your brother for long, Aimé."

Aimé was caught off guard by Lord Hurst's sudden appearance at their side. He had still not recovered himself fully from the shock of Antoine discovering him at Mercedes beside, nor the promises he had had to make his brother. Lord Hurst's question seemed to do nothing more than prove that Antoine had been correct at how close to ruin Aimé had brought them with his foolish affair.

"Lord Hurst! I would be delighted to talk to you about anything you wished." Aimé said, forcing a smile to his lips. "Antoine, I'm sure, is looking to dance with one of the fine young ladies here tonight and I'm certain won't miss me for a little while."

He smiled at his brother, hoping Antoine would forgive him now he could see how sincerely Aimé was trying.

Lord Hurst smiles again, bowing his head once more. "Perhaps I can offer you a drink, Aimé?" He offers, leading the young man away to a room, lined with bookshelves, some way away from the ball room, and gestured the boy into one of the comfortable arm-chairs. "I believe we have several matters of... a private nature to discuss?" He said, moving a decanter of wine and two finely cut crystal glasses onto the table between two chairs, before settling opposite the French youth.

"You are, of course, an extremely attractive young man, and you must know that many men consider you so. The Earl of Northumbria expressed to me what a delightful companion you are." He said, pouring his guest a measure. "And today you have shown yourself to also be a charming, as well as discrete young man."

"I think a drink would be most lovely." Aimé said, reminding himself now to concentrate fully on Lord Hurst. His own problem could be dealt with later when business was concluded.

He settled in one of the fine arm-chairs. This should be the type of home he was entertained in, the type of company he should be keeping.
He took the glass from Lord Hurst, smiling warmly at him.
"I am glad his Lordship enjoyed me so much as to comment on it, but I am equally if not more delighted by your praise."

Lord Hurst smiled slightly as the young man returned his compliments, before picking up the extra cushions from the chair, moving them to one of the unoccupied seats before he too settled and made himself comfortable, and picked up his glass to take a sip. "You are deserving of all the praise I've heard about you, it seems. I've been looking for... a companion with the qualities you process for sometime. Charm, intelligence, and of course, a great deal of physical attractiveness."

Hurst paused then, and looked at the boy for a long moment, "Your brother spoke to you about this, I hope?" He said after a moment.

Aimé took a sip of his wine and smiled at Lord Hurst.
"He did, naturally, and I am not shocked by it at all, my Lord. I would hope that you liked me, although I do not know if I have shown you quite my best side today with that incident at the Hunt" and how closely he had come to forgetting himself with the man who had been trespassing on Lord Hurst's land.

Hurst takes a swallow from his glass again, thinking back to the shoot. "Yes, I can imagine that was rather harrowing. You did well to spot him, though, Aimé. Quite possibly saved the man's life." He said, as he leant forward to set down the half-empty glass. "I hope it hasn't put a damper on your stay. It was quite heart-stopping for all of us."

Hurst shifts in his chair, looking Aimé over again. "I was hoping that you would allow me to extend you invitation to stay here for another night or so. If your brother would allow. I would like... for us to know each other better."

Aimé looked down at the floor, taking another sip from the glass in his hand. "Thank you, but I don't deserve any praise for it" He said faintly. "No, it certainly hasn't damped my spirits."

He looked up, unwilling to tie his family to the household any longer than they were already scheduled to stay without Antoine's agreement, especially since Mercedes would still be here also.
"I would like for us to be able to too, but I cannot agree to anything without my brother's consent. You understand that, don't you?"

Hurst couldn't help but think it odd, that the boy wouldn't take any praise at all. But perhaps Aimé was being coy. Some men liked that in their companions, but Lord Hurst thought it detrimental to a boy of class and good breeding. Unless, of course, it was in a different setting all together. Perhaps then he would not care if Aimé thought himself undeserving. "I hate to hear a young man of your background say he shouldn't have anything, Aimé."

"I was not thinking of extending your brothers invitation. I didn't think it would be... advantageous. But if he would not allow you to stay without his presence, I am sure something can be arranged. Shall we discuss other matters, for the moment?"

Aimé looked up at him, worried he had miss-stepped. "Oh, I did not mean it that way, my Lord. Simply that I am sure anyone would have done that same had they seen him first."

He did not want to dwell on Mercedes and the hunt, especially not after what he had promised Antoine. Every time they spoke about the man it hurt Aimé physically.

Aimé nodded, smiling at Lord Hurst. "I'm certain that you and Antoine may come to some arrangement, but yes, to talk of other things would be delightful."

Tobias paused a moment, considering how it was best to approach the subject. "I don't believe, and you need not take notice, of course, but I do not believe a young man, born into a good family, with good breeding, good manners, and charm such as that you process need lower himself for anyone." He paused, and glanced up at Aimé, calculating what the boy's response would be, "Unless it is in certain circumstances, when a young man can get exactly what he wants for a man of, shall we say, a different background?"

Aimé shifted in his chair fearfully, taking another sip of his drink, draining the glass this time. Whatever could Lord Hurst mean about lowering himself for a man of a different background, unless he knew about Mercedes.

"I'm afraid you've lost me, sir." He said, trying very hard not to show his worry.

"Would you like another drink, Aimé?" The man offered, hoping that he had not insulted or driven Aimé away. He had thought they were getting along well. "I hope I am not being too forward, Aimé. I know things are done a little differently across the channel."

"I meant, simply that... sometimes a boy of your class, and a man of a lower one can make an interesting and... alluring pair. But I would not pick anyone for you that you would find... distasteful."

“Another glass of wine would be most welcome.” Aimé said, smiling at him and offering his glass to be refilled. He listened carefully to Lord Hurst and then gave a grateful sigh of relief. “Oh no, my lord. Things are done quite the same in France, sometimes much more forwardly.”

“Distasteful, my lord? I’m certain I will not find it distasteful.” He said, smiling. So that was what Lord Hurst desired, to watch Aimé with other men.

Hurst nodded, and topped up his glass after pouring another for the young French boy. "I thought that would be the case. But these things are always worth approaching with some delicacy." He said, setting down the decanter again. "But if you do not find it distasteful, than I shall attempt to be a little more forward."

"I realise it is something which very few men would discuss. Especially men in my position with a young man in yours. But I assure you that you will be well treated. Extremely well treated. And I would not force you into situations which you feel... uncomfortable."

Aimé smiled, reaching out to touch Lord Hurst's hand. "I would not have thought anything different, My Lord." He said. How strange, he thought, Lord Hurst seemed so forceful this morning but in discussion he seemed fretful and worried.

Perhaps Aimé had misjudged him, or perhaps this was his first time seeking a companion from higher blood. What he wanted was unorthodox but not the most horrible thing Aimé had heard suggested, and he could hardly come to nobility snob given his affair with Mercedes.

Then it was agreed then. Aimé, he hoped, could be trusted, at least, that was what he had been told, and the boy was a more than suitable. "Very good. I hope you haven't exhausted yourself too much today?" He asks, getting up and moving towards Aimé, stroking over the boy's cheek, and then his lips. "Tonight we shall have something of a trial run. To see that we are both compatible." He murmurs, eyes moving slowly over the young man. "I hope I shall be able to discover you in something of a compromising position a little after midnight, in..." He paused, throat suddenly dry, "in your room. I've had one of the servants leave one or two appropriate items in the bedside cabinet, should you desire them."

"No, not at all." Aimé said, leaning into the touch, although it was hardly the truth. He felt both physically and emotionally drained but this agreement with Lord Hurst must come first for him now. He nodded, listening carefully to Lord Hurst's instructions, hoping the man would find him more than simply compatible.

He smiled and kissed Lord Hurst's fingers. "I am more than sure I will certainly desire them after this meeting with you."

Hurst smiled slightly, and pulled out his pocket watch, glancing at the time, "And considering the lateness of the hour, perhaps you would like to inform your brother of your intent to retire early?" He suggested, offering the boy a hand up. "So that you might prepare yourself. I will not be asking anyone else to join us, although I am quite looking forwards to being your audience."

Hurst, of course, wasn't planning outright to have the boy tonight, it was all too soon for that, but watching the young man squirm around on fresh bedsheets would not necessarily be a bad end to an overly tiring day.

Aimé nodded, taking Lord Hurst's hand and letting him help him from the chair. "Of course, my Lord. It has been such a long day after all, I'm sure my brother would understand. Should we head back to the party then? I will have to inform Antoine of my new plans."

Lord Hurst nodded his agreement, guiding Aimé from the room, letting his hand stroke down the boy's back to the base of his spine before they were once again in sight of the other guests. "I think you should tell your brother. And I shall see you in an hour."

When Lord Hurst had approached them as soon as they'd arrived back into the room, Antoine had felt a surge of relief that this hadn't messed up their day, their plans. He'd let Aimé go off with Lord Hurst and had taken a few spins around the room with some of the lovely ladies in attendance.

When they were still not back when he was tired from the dancing, he realised that it must be a good sign. As long as they were together, anyway. It was then that a brief twinge of anger at himself hit. He hated what he was asking his brother to do. However, Aimé had never complained once. If he did, well, Antoine hadn't heard it. He didn't seem to mind. Thankfully.

Leaning against one of the walls that lined the beautifully decorated room, Antoine kept his eyes trained on the door, hoping to see when the two of them arrived again. In one hand he held a drink, the other was draped against his side as he waited for his brother to return and let him know how things were progressing.

Aimé entered the room a little ahead of Lord Hurst, looking around the room to spot his brother in the excitement. It did not take long. He crossed the ballroom, smiling in a way he hoped would put Antoine's mind to rest on the subject of weather or not they had achieved what they had come here for.

"Lord Hurst was wondering," He said as he reached his brother's side. "If I might retire to bed soon? It has been a long day and he is eager not to wait."

When Antoine saw the smile on his brother's face, he knew that all would, indeed, be well. At least for today. Which, in his life, was a reassurance. It was nice to know that they would have one more day. Ever since the Revolution had hit his country, he'd been worried for his family. And now, with the smile that Aimé was giving him, he felt a little of that worry slip away. After all, this was a Duke that they would have on their side.

Leaning down to listen to Aimé's words, Antoine smiled. Lifting his head, he looked down to him and spoke, "If you wish to retire early, I see no problems with that. If that is your wish."

Taking a sip of his drink, he lowered his voice a bit. "However, Aimé, please remember that we will be leaving tomorrow, so keep that in mind, yes?"

Pausing, Antoine considered his brother's words. "On your own? Here? I do not know about that, Aimé. That...merchant is still here and I cannot have you giving into the temptation to see him again." Because that would ruin everything. "What do you think about this change in plans?"

"Lord Hurst seemed insistent, but I am sure if he wishes me to stay that much he will accommodated you as well" Aimé said. He did not say it but he felt that having Antoine stay with him would keep him away from the temptation of visiting Mercedes again.

Nodding, Antoine listened to Aimé before speaking. "I shall speak to Lord Hurst. I am not sure that Papa would approve of me leaving you here when we have only just met the kind lord. If he wishes you to stay, I will require that he allow me to continue to stay as well. However, I shall tell him that I will, of course, allow the two of you time to get to know each other."

Besides, with Mercedes still here, Aimé might be tempted. And he couldn't have that.

Aimé stiffened a little at the mention of their father. He had not been thinking of him, too caught up in everything that had happened in their stay so far. "I'm sure Lord Hurst would understand if we had to go home for father. I would not want him to worsen while we were away."

"Don't be concerned for father. He is fine, I'm sure. He has the best doctor's at his beck and call. Of course, I shall make it clear to Lord Hurst that we cannot stay for too much longer. However, another day or two will be fine. After that, if Lord Hurst wishes to see you, we shall figure something out." Nodding, Antoine smiled. He knew that their father would be fine. The weak old man was too set on seeing things work out for their family to die.

"If you think that is best." Aimé said, deferring as he always did to his older brother's judgement. Antoine always did what was best. "Should we retire now?" He asked. "Or do you want to stay a little longer and I go alone?"

Contrary to popular belief, Antoine did not relish being in crowds of people for long. It was expected of the aristocracy to mingle, to attend parties and other get togethers. However, he was happier away from the crush of people.

Therefore, he would take this out while he could. "I shall accompany you to your room and from there I shall retire myself. I have some papers from home to review and this evening is as good of a time as any."

Nodding, he sat his glass down on a table nearby and extended his arm for his brother to precede him from the room.

Aimé left the room, walking in silence back to the bedroom. He did not want to talk about what had transpired here this evening or the threat of punishment that still hung over his head. He had to keep focused for Lord Hurst.

He paused outside his door, smiling at his brother. "Good Night, Antoine. I am sorry again for what I've done."

When they stood outside of Aimé's room, Antoine smiled down at him. "Put it out of your mind tonight, Aimé. There are other things that you need to think about this evening. We shall discuss this in greater depth when we're home."

Lifting a hand to Aimé's cheek, he nodded. "Have a good evening, brother. I shall see in the morning. If you have need of anything, you know where to find my room."
