Top Shelf: A Fantasy & Science Fiction Book Club PSL
Game Premise:
Fantasy & science fiction books offer an escape into another world; a chance to explore societies, cultures, and even natural laws different than our own. This is a chance to further explore as writers the worlds we’ve loved as readers.
The emphasis is on the world or universe of the book. The book’s characters aren’t important, and neither is the plot. A world you love might not be in the best book ever written; you don’t even have to claim it’s good, just that the world is worth exploring.
Which characters you introduce is entirely up to individual choice. They don’t have to be canon characters, but they could be minor ones, if there’s someone you feel had more of a story to tell. They can be original characters. They can even be characters from other books and worlds, displaced so the writer can explore how they live and act in an alternate society.
Variety is the spice of life, and there’s something out there for everyone to inspire and challenge us. Urban fantasy, steampunk, gaslamp, post-apocalyptic, superheroes, supernatural and paranormal, social science fiction, high fantasy, sword and sorcery, biopunk, space opera, time travel, gods and demons…there are books that bring all sorts of possibilities to life, and leave enough gray area for fans to fill in and create something of their own.
