You'll never know what a fool I've been
CHARACTERS: Scorpius Malfoy & Lily Potter
SETTING: Carmel Coffee
DATE: September 3rd, 2026
SUMMARY: Flashback and a continuation from the 'Step Into My Office, Baby' thread. Scorpius and Lily are meeting outside of work to set the record straight, and perhaps make their work days just that little bit cheerier.
To say Scorpius was nervous was an understatement. It wasn't even a date. It was just a casual meeting. With Lily Potter. At a cafe. They would have coffee and talk over how much of an ass he was to her, probably end up insulting each other, then go home bitter. That was how it was going to go.
He had given more thought to his decision two days ago, on Tuesday the first of September; the decision to try an entirely new route from his one at school. It had been downright stupid, his behaviour at school. Why he had thought driving her away would help him manage his own feelings, he had no idea. He had been fifteen and foolish, and had only ended up hurting her with his bullying. To be realistic, he didn't think he was helping himself much right now, either, but at least she would be happier, and that was the most important thing to him right now. He was getting himself out of the trap, the expectation that he could be nothing but cruel to her, while the opportunity presented itself. Otherwise the pressure would be too much, and Merlin knows he was never any good at withstanding social pressure.
Having sent a ministry-memo to Lily Potter yesterday about the time and place for their meeting, he now sat at one of the indoor tables at Carmel Coffee at Diagon Alley, the angle of the late-afternoon sun casting the street into shadow. He had gotten a few looks already, being a Malfoy sitting alone at a table for two and not even buying coffee. He was on the verge of being fidgety, though his upbringing had been far too strict to let him exhibit that behaviour. As far as appearances went he was calm, collected, and waiting patiently for the appearance of his very attractive co-worker.
