Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Serena and Open
What: Attempting studiousness (what a laugh!)
Where: The Library
When: Sunday night

It was a very rare occasion indeed to find Serena Inglebee curled up in one of the old stuffed arm chairs in one of the dusty old corners of the library. It wasn't that she was all beauty and no brains. On the contrary, Serena was actually rather brilliant. She was just flighty. And had the attention span of a flea. Her foot was jiggling over the arm of the chair. She'd gone through about five of her text books already, skimming and barely retaining any information, but at least she looked smart, yeah?

Al was just finishing up his Potions homework when he saw Serena positioned in a chair. She really couldn't be considered sitting, more like laying across it. She looked bored, so Al figured he wouldn't be interrupting if he popped over to say hello.

"I've never seen you look so studious."

A surprised expression crossed Serena's face as she looked up, but it was immediately replaced with a grin and a good natured giggle. "Yeah, I know, right? It's really unusual." She snapped her book shut and sat up properly, "I never study, so I figured I'd better see what all the fuss was about."

"Yeah? And is it for you?" He smirked and crouched beside the chair.

Serena shook her head and scrunched up her nose, "It's not really working." She admitted, sounding somewhat defeated. "I didn't really expect it to, though." She shrugged.

"So what brings you here?"

"I just wrapped up Potions. Essay. Dragons blood, blah blah. Figure I had to get an A on it as my namesake discovered the twelve uses."

"Nice." She nodded, "Though, I don't know if it would be fair to hold it against you if you didn't. You can't exactly help who you were named after." Not like she'd know. She wasn't named for anyone, and really even if she had been it probably wouldn't have much affect on her anyway.

"I like who I was named after." There had been an upward trend in babies named Harry after the war, but Albus Severus-- there was a name nobody else had. There were two men he'd never met, but greatly admired.

"Well, sure. That's not what I meant. I just mean, people shouldn't expect things of you just because you were named after someone. I mean, that would just be unfair." Sure it could probably give him something to strive for, but you didn't need to be named after someone important to want to be someone. Not that it was any of her business. Besides, she didn't really strive to be anyone but herself and it was good enough for her. So she was biased. So what?

Serena nodded, "I suppose so. I can't imagine that's very easy." Of course, she could kind of empathize. Not in the same way, perhaps, but people sure did expect a lot of her. Ah well.

"You done with the library?" Al was afraid the librarian would come back and yell at them.

"The lake would be great! I've been pretty cooped up lately." She had been spending quite a bit of time inside rather than outside, and it was certainly making her a bit less bouncy than usual. It probably wasn't noticeable to most people, but she was definitely feeling the effects of cabin fever.

Serena glanced down at her uniform skirt. Not really conducive to snowman building. "Mmm... Probably. Or some pants. I can make it quick though."

"It's alright, I can wait outside." At least he knew what house she was in. He was still getting mocked for leaving Karina Cattermole outside of Hufflepuff with Aubrey.

Well she definitely had enough Gryffindor-ness to go around. And she certainly fit the stereotype for the most part. "Alright then! Thanks! I'd definitely freeze in this!" Serena gave Al another of her trademark grins, "You're just terribly thoughtful, aren't you?"

Al couldn't help but look down at her legs. He blushed a Weasley shade of red and quickly looked back up at her face, smoling. "Right, it'd be cold."

And there was that blush again! Serena, being oblivious as usual, wasn't quite sure what had him blushing, but she was certain that she found it to be incredibly endearing. Her face lit up a bit more and she nodded, "I can imagine." She shuddered involuntarily at the very thought of being cold.

They stopped outside of Gryffindor. Al waited by the fat lady. "I'll be right here when you get back."

"Well then I'll expect to see you here." She smiled softly. She gave him a quick peck on the cheek for good measure before giving the portrait the password in an impossibly cheery voice and disappearing into the portrait hole.

Al had an interesting conversation with the Fat Lady while he was waiting. She kept calling him Harry and then she and her friend Violet mocked him a little bit for being a product of Weasleys and Potters but being in Slytherin.

Good thing Serena didn't take too long, because that was sure to be a rather loaded conversation.

After only about five minutes, she returned in a completely different outfit. One that was far more conducive to an evening of snowman building. "Hey! I wasn't gone too long, was I?" She asked when the portrait swung away to let her back out.

"No," Al said quickly to shut up the fat lady. He grabbed her hand and started down the hall. Violet called after them, "Goodnight Harry!"

Serena laughed, letting Al drag her down the hall. I'd be lying if I said she wasn't incredibly amused by his sudden eagerness to get out of there. Not that he hadn't been the one to suggest they go and do something, but well... He wasn't exactly pulling her arm off before. "The paintings can't tell the difference between you and your dad?"

Serena was rather fond of the paintings. They seemed to know everything that went on in the castle, and were horrible gossips. They made her laugh, but she wasn't going to deny that they were incredibly rude now and then. "They like to think they're funny." She giggled in agreement.

Well, she hadn't quite expected it to be that cold, but at least she'd come prepared. Tugging her scarf tighter, Serena glanced over at Al with a teeth chattering smile, "Yikes! We'd better keep moving or we'll freeze the spot!" She was pretty sure it wouldn't seem so cold once they got working on their snow man.

"Looks like someone shoveled a path." He trudged ahead, delighting in the sound of snow crunching beneath his shoes. It was cold but the air felt clean and fresh.
