Warnings? None whatever!

Tracey had a run in her stockings the length of that great bloody Muggle wall in China. Or perhaps she'd read something in History of Magic that it wasn't Muggle at all, but some sort of Wizarding defense against marauding giants? Her studies hadn't been exactly what she'd call thorough.

There was nothing for it now and besides, Tracey imagined it might make her look a bit edgy, avant garde, or perhaps only very poor. She had six pairs of slippers and matching Wonder Stuff Stiff Skirts to pick up at Madam Malkin's, there was a chance they would have stockings for a more mature set, as well?

With a pop, Tracey emerged from the grubby loo in the Leakey, and promising herself a glass of Tom's prized '76 after, exited the pub for the street.

Struggling out of the back storeroom at Madam Malkin's, Sarah kicked the door shut with her foot. Her arms were piled high with multi-colored Wonder Stuff dance skirts, their crinkly-stiff netting making them billow so high she could hardly see where she was going.

She narrowly avoided tripping over a footstool, only to bump smack into the edge of the main cutting counter, spilling tiny dance gear every which way.

"Bollocks!" she muttered under her breath, a sharp tsk from behind her letting her know that Madam M had caught her swearing.

Wincing, she bent to pick up some of the skirts that had landed on the floor, looking up when the shop bell rang.

Whenever Tracey went into Madam Malkin's, she remembered sneaking into her mother's closet as a very young girl and sitting with her head among all of tassled robe bottoms and lace skirts, feet wriggled deep within a pair of sequined heels. If nothing else, her mother had style.

She breathed a sigh, unable to keep from running her fingers along the sleeve of a robe whose price tag she likely couldn't afford, and wound her way through the racks to the counter.

"It's good they're starting their lives on the floor, because that's where the girls will end up leaving them," she said offhandedly, though her grin was more amused than malicious.

Blast. Sarah hid a grimace as she stood up, clutching two of the skirts in her hands. Of course the person who ordered these would show up just as she was making an arse of herself. It was just how her luck was running today.

Shaking the skirts to remove any lurking dustbunnies, she placed them on the counter and smiled gamely at the vaguely familiar looking woman.

"So sorry about that...these counters sneak up me sometimes," she attempted a chuckle.

"Can I help you?"

"Is this mauve?" Tracey asked, ignoring the shop girl's request and plucking at a tulle monstrosity. She remembered wearing these. It was rather like wearing a dazzling, cardboard smock... but at nine, she imagined it quite glamorous.

"It doesn't matter," she waved dismissively, sighing at the bulk of costumes and how she would return them to the studio without incident, let alone with a drink or two managed between. "I'm here for the skirts."

Reluctantly.

Biting her tongue and managing to smile despite the other witch's slightly rude manner, Sarah glanced at the skirt in question.

"Um, Misty Mulberry, I believe...but that's in the mauve family."

Sarah moved to the order book, and rifled through the day's pickup slips. "Tip Tap Toe, yes? Six of these and slippers to match? If you'll excuse me, I'll just go get the slippers."

She moved swiftly through the shop, dodging customers and quickly ducking into the shoe storage room. Hopefully one of the younger apprentices had already boxed the order.

Misty Mulberry. Of course.

Tracey leaned against the counter, draping her scarf haphazardly over the growing run in her tights. It was becoming indecent; though, if the shopkeeper had been male, she might've made a greater show of it. There were only a few really good years left with her legs, after all.

Excellent. The slippers were all boxed and waiting, each box tied with ribbons matching the color of the shoes inside. Sarah toted them back to the counter with much greater success than she'd had with the skirts.

As she set the boxes down on the counter and moved to fold the skirts for wrapping, she noted her customer attempting to hide a rather nasty run in her tights. Not knowing how to mention it delicately, but seeing another sale opportunity, she piped up.

"Will there be anything else?"

Eyeballing the smartly wrapped packages and the increasing bulk of the order, Tracey chewed her lip.

"You don't happen to have a clever young man in one of those boxes for deliveries, do you?"

Not that she could pay. Gretchen Merriwell generally operated under the impression that she employed Tracey to do everything that the old witch could not, would not, or had not thought to do herself.

Sarah smirked slightly.

"Sadly, no. We used to...but he never came back after delivering to one particularly, um, difficult customer." Personally, Sarah thought that old Zozma had kept him as a pet, but then again, Aidan always had been a bit irregular, and he might have just decided to bag the job altogether.

"I can cast a Feather-Light on the bags for you, if you'd like though," she said cheerfully. "And if you don't mind my saying, we've got a new product I think you might be interested in."

Though fully capable of casting the Charm herself, Tracey's retort affirming this was temporarily derailed by Sarah's sales pitch. A brow quirked, her hands knotting obsessively in the nearest, periwinkle tulle skirt.

"... is it on sale?"

"As a matter of fact...you're in luck."

Sarah moved to a small display that was semi-hidden at the back end of the counter and rummaged through the packets hanging there. Plucking a couple from the rack, she turned back to her customer.

"New product. Madame Seraphima's Swift-Stitch Self-Mending Stockings. Guaranteed to completely repair even the worst rips, tears, or runs six times before the charm wears off."

She held up the packets, one black and one grey. "Intro special, two for two galleons...normally, they're two galleons per pair."

Tracey laughed despite herself, a good, hard laugh that no doubt unraveled further her quickly diminishing stocking.

"Noticed, did you?"

There was nothing unkind in her words, and she grinned as she fished in her knapsack, withdrawing the coin Mrs. Merriwell had given her for the dance costumes and some of her own, as well.

"I'll take four, if you have them. Anything in green?"

Who needed house elves for the mending? Not Tracey.

Sarah laughed too. "Sorry...couldn't help it, it was looking rather dire there, to be honest."

"Green?" She darted back to the display and rifled through the packets again. "Um, yes...Luscious Lime or Eternal Evergreen...which is a bit redundant, if you ask me, but a lovely color nonetheless."

Who, by Merlin, picks these color names?

Sarah popped back to the front counter and began totting up the order. "Excellent, I'll just get this all wrapped."

"Luscious Lime sounds like the fast, dirty, and fun thing to wear if it's between that and Eternal Evergreen," Tracey snorted, counting out the appropriate amount of coin. She might have to skip the wine, but at least she wouldn't have to buy tights for a good long while, provided pre-pubescent girls didn't find yet one more way of ruining her life. And her wardrobe.

"Unless there's something back there called Free Drinks Pink?"

"Alright, one Luscious Lime coming up...sadly, we ran out of Flirty Fuschia this morning," Sarah quipped. "A gaggle of fresh young things right out of Hogwarts swept through and bought up the last of them. Kind of scary, really."

Sarah finished wrapping the parcels efficiently and tucked them neatly into a large bag emblazoned with Madam Malkin's trademark entwined double M logo. Adding up the final total, she turned to the other witch.

"That'll be forty-five galleons, three sickles, and two knuts in all."

Gryffindors, no doubt.

Mrs. Merriwell was, fortunately, quite wise when it came to the financing of Tip Tap Toe's productions and the sum of money required. She had given Tracey the amount almost exactly for the skirts and slippers, and Tracey supplemented the cost of the stockings from her own purse.

"There," she announced, pushing the coins across the counter and, with a flick of her wand and a muttered Charm, levitating the tipsy packages.

She nodded glibly at the shopgirl.

"Now let's hope that's the last you see of me for a good long while, my stockings and our coffers be spared."

Sarah laughed and waved the other witch off with a smile. "Thanks for shopping with us, and I hope your students enjoy the skirts!"

As the other witch moved away, Sarah glanced at the clock above the counter.

Perfect. Time for my tea break.
