Tonks stared up at him in suspense, unable to stop herself from asking, "Who?" She stopped almost as soon as the word was out, looking away, "Sorry. I don't mean to pry." If he hadn't told her thus far he must have had good reason not to. Tonks sighed, "There are.. rumours in MLE that there was a spy for the old Order, someone within the Death Eaters that gave Dumbledore information but.." She sighed again, trying to think back to her days in training and the stories the trainees would tell of the First War to encourage each other, "It's just a rumour. No one outside the Order knows for sure. Who he was, what he did, or if he- or she- even existed."
She smiled contently when he stroked her hair, eyeing him with a playful smirk, laughing when he apologised. "Your ideas do tend to have a small trend of my being naked, don't they?" She sighed dramatically, fighting to keep her charade up even as she felt herself go progressively more docile as he stroked her hair, "Then again, our meetings do tend to end up with one of us losing our shirts sooner or later. Actually this is the longest we've managed to keep our clothes on since the first time I met you, and yes I am counting that time you greeted me half naked." Something about an imminent war just had the whole.. bucket of cold water effect going for it.
Tonks stopped then and considered what he was saying. He knew Bellatrix would never let him go, and all he had to hope for was her devotion to another man leading her.. Somewhere else. It was haunting, moreso that that was all he had to go on. She looked to him, looked at the expression on his face, the look in his eyes and she realised then that was all the hope he could have, and she wouldn't take that away. Bellatrix was many things, among them resilient, like a parasite. Even as her Master had been gone for all these years, she had remained. Watching. Waiting. But she couldn't take this away from him, and when he smiled, she smiled in turn, "Yeah. I'd like that." She looked at him when he brushed her hair back and smiled when he kissed her, wrapping her arms around him and drawing him closer, deepening their kiss. She focused on the warmth of his body, the softness of his lips and the press of his arms to keep from thinking about wars and wives and crueler realities.
