Rodolphus smiled. "Yes, I've met a Dementor. And I hate them but..." He sighed and nodded. "I suppose you're right. Azkaban probably is worse than death."
He kissed her nose, then watched her face and knew she was thinking about Obliviating him again. If she did try, she wouldn't succeed, of course, and she didn't seem to want it in the first place, so he relaxed and tightened his arms around her.
He stroked her hair and cupped the back of her neck, looking into her eyes. "I know you do. Just as much as I hate being away from you and not knowing what you're doing or if you're possibly in danger. And it's only going to get worse now that... well." He trailed off, not really wanting to talk about him again. "I promise that I won't do anything foolish. But if I do have the opportunity to save someone I know you care about, then... I'll do my best to protect them."
