Tonks looked at him and made no pretense of hiding the horror in her voice and face, "Don't even joke about that! Have you ever met a Dementor?" She shook her head almost manically, "Azkaban.. It's a fate worse than death. Just because you made a bad call when you were young doesn't mean that you should have to suffer for the rest of your life." she stopped, then. Last time he'd been with her she could remember him saying that he'd done.. Things during those days which he wasn't proud of. She decided then she didn't want to know.
Tonks breathed her first sigh of relief in what seemed like an eternity, a knot in her chest loosening with relief. She smiled when he touched her cheek, smiled at his promises. He was willing to betray his people for her, to go against them, to risk himself. Lily was her superior and her friend and he was willing to risk so much to help her. Maybe it should have made her happy, but in the end his willingness to put himself in the line of fire only scared her. Tonks shook her head, "Thank you," She swallowed, hard, then leaned towards him, hugging him tightly, "Thank you... But please. Don't risk yourself that way around them. Don't give them any excuses. Do whatever it takes to stay alive." He was talking about going underneath the noses of Death Eater and Dark Lord alike and that scared her. She remembered the fleeting thought she'd had those weeks ago, obliviate him to forget her. Forget their promises. Let him do whatever he needed to do without being haunted by thoughts of her and her people. Tonks held on to him tightly, pressing her face against his shoulder. She couldn't do it. She knew what she had to, what would be best for him, and she couldn't do it. "I don't care what you are, or what you do, so long as you're okay. I hate it that you're gone where I can't help you. I hate it."
