Tonks shook her head, "We don't know for sure, but she just.. Disappeared." She sighed, "We want to believe she's just in hiding, but.. No one's gotten word from her. And it's not-- It's not like her to just.. Vanish." In the end she didn't know what scared her more, Lily being taken by the Death Eaters or Lily alone somewhere, hurt and bleeding and trying to hide without having any way to call for help. But if they'd already taken James, it only stood to figure that Lily would be next. Tonks shook her head, her heart aching as she watched Lupin practically shrink in front of her. She couldn't stand it, decorum and procedure be damned. Tonks fell to her knees in front of him, taking his hands in hers and looking straight up into his eyes, giving his hands a gentle but reassuring squeeze, "We're going to find her. With or without the Ministry, we're going to get her back. We're going to get them back, and we're going to put an end to this. Whatever it takes, we're going to bring them home. I promise you."
She didn't know what surprised her more, the intensity of her words or the fact that even as she felt like the world was crumbling around her, she believed them. Maybe it was the look she saw on his face, how she'd seen him curl up, so helpless and small that made her want to do something. That made her want to make things better, that made her want to take the horror away from him. Her eyes softened and she stood up again, "He's in Hogwarts. I suspect Dumbledore has already told him, and he's with him." Her voice fell, "But you're right. Harry will want to do something. Not just his father, but his mother.. He must be terrified. Or very, very angry. Who knows what he'll do." The reason she and the boy got along so well was that she had found his impulsiveness and brashness endearing, but now those were exceptionally dangerous traits.
