Sleeping had become something very foreign to Lily Potter, days seemed to blend into weeks, and weeks had turned into a month since James had disappeared. The insomnia had gotten so bad she didn't even lay in bed and pretend to sleep as she waited for news, any news. She couldn't believe that after so long the Death Eaters would keep him alive, and though it tore at her soul, she just wanted an answer. But if he was dead, why hadn't a body surfaced? Even as an Auror, she couldn't wrap her mind around what was going on.
She sat in her arm chair near the window, glancing out at the street lights in the frosted windows, almost hoping that James would come home from work and nothing would be wrong. But as she sat in her chair, staring out the window she saw something move around the outside of the house. A shadow had passed in front of the street lights, she could feel the familiar hum of magic, but it was not a familiar magic to her. She stood slowly, straightening her back as she moved towards the door to the backyard. She rest her hand on the door knob, and heard a rush of air as she leapt out of the way-- the door had been blown off the hinges!
She suddenly started throwing hexes and curses as the cloaked figures into her house-- furniture was destroyed, memories and memorabilia shattered as they fought. She could hear the kitchen table fly past her head as she screamed out another curse. She needed to get to the fireplace, or outside to apparate! But it seemed like both her options were limited as more Death Eaters moved through the front door. She ran, narrowly avoiding another hex as she blasted her way out of the house. She could hear the roar of fire in the house, she had no choice. There was nothing she could save, and she could not stay.
With another hex, the front of the house exploded in bricks and glass, sending Death Eaters flying out of her way as she leapt outside. As she turned to apparate, she caught a glimpse of her burning home and the Dark Mark that hung over it.
