Really, he was secretly pleased. Yes, he had a dozen other things he could be doing, but he was actually glad to have an excuse to pop round the school. The brooms he had promised Draco had come in almost a week late due to manufacturing issues. Thus, Lucius had decided to deliver them personally to his son's Head of House. Lucius had not had the opportunity to speak with Severus that night of the dance; never mind that Lucius had seen Severus with that Burbage woman (who had looked rather fetching in her attire, even for a Mudblood.) Lucius had wanted to speak with him, to catch up, but it was rather beneath him to try to beg Severus away from anyone. And Narcissa had been a welcome delight in his arms, one he had been reluctant to release. So Lucius felt justified in his internal excuses for not pursuing Snape that night. But tonight, Lucius was not going to take no for an answer.
Lucius knew that Severus would know something about what was going on; Severus always seemed to just know.
He walked with his house-elf following behind him hoovering a large bundle of brooms as Lucius walked ahead of it. He had apparated to the outside gates, and had strolled along the long drive, enjoying the chill and the fading light. Lucius opened the large doors leading into the main entrance, and moved with confidence towards the Slytherins' rooms.
