"Mind-boggling is putting it lightly," he said. "We were family. They were, at least to me. Sirius too, after he turned on his lot...you not included, of course. I mean, Peter adored James. I still don't understand why he did it. The only explanation for it is a craving for power...something he never achieved at Hogwarts by himself. Suppose that's what did Tom Riddle in too. Power corrupts, as they say."
He popped another chocolate biscuit in his mouth. Lupin weakness, that was...can't just have one chocolate when there's another to be had waiting on the plate. It was a wonder he was as skinny as he was with the amount of chocolate biscuits he was capable of consuming.
"I guess it's all we can do then," he said. "Try to get some leads and keep an eye out. If there's someone inside the Ministry keeping things from moving, I expect you'll take note of that. Let me know where I can help. In the mean time..."
He dug in his pocket, retrieving a crumpled list.
"I made notation of all the places I could think of that mean something to Peter...places he'd consider hiding out. If there's one thing about Peter, it's that he's fairly predictable. Maybe you could pass the information on to your boss or something. Might be some places to start."
