He scratched at his neck, looking at her skeptically.
"If werewolves kept their sanity, they wouldn't be dangerous," he said. "No, I have no memory of who I am nor any knowledge of what is right or wrong. It's not me in there at all...at least it wasn't until recently."
For a moment, he thought of the wolf as a talking, tea-drinking version of his actual self and smiled. If only! He thought back to his encounters with Snape in the dungeons.
"Have you heard of the Wolfsbane potion?" he asked. "It's a relatively new invention. It allows the werewolf to retain his sense of self during transformations. It's still very painful to transform, but once I'm a wolf, I don't have to worry about hurting anyone. I can simply curl up and go to sleep. The potion is incredibly difficult to make and expensive to buy. I'm lucky to get doses at all."
