Who: Nicanor and Lincoln
What: Going out drinking
Where: Downtown Danvers
When: Evening
Rating: TBD

There was so much confliction with this meeting that Nic didn't know what to feel about it. He remained very quiet as he got dressed and shaved his face, and checked his neck for any signs of scarring. There was none, but the older wounds, the faint lines of previous injury, were still there. The healers hadn't taken those away. This only brought more conflict into Nic's mind. Seeing those scars reminded him of what Linc really was, of how he truly felt about the supers. But in his heart, Nic felt differently. There was something about the other man that wasn't poisoned, that had been exposed and it was delicate, fragile. Almost innocent. It was that notion that wouldn't let Nic dismiss this so easily.

Clean shaven, smelling fresh and in clean clothes (save for the old, weather worn, incredibly beaten leather jacket), Nic came out to the parking lot to meet Linc. The man was standing by his truck, as promised, looking... Nic did not know what. "Hello," he said with a small, unsure smile.

Lincoln didn't know it but he had dressed like every teenage girl's dream image of a vampire as he stood hanging around his truck, hands in his pockets. He wondered why he had a few stares from giggling passers by but his mind was focused on other things, more significantly his meeting with Nicanor. An unlikely friend, a weird ally, a former enemy, going for drinks.

Was he a former enemy? He wasn't sure. Certainly the vampiric edge in his veins was steering him towards the kinder side of letting Nic live and after speaking to him he found that he maybe sort of liked him. Watching him approach Linc leant up from the car and nodded his head at him, politely.

"Ready?"

Swallowing, Nic paused a moment before replying. Was he ready for this? No, he decided. He was not. Miss Candice had told him to trust his instinct, and right now his instinct was telling him that he was building a friendship with someone that was going to hurt him later in life. His instinct told him that as soon as Linc was human again, if that day ever came, that this would be all over and the only person who would really be hurt was Nic.

"Yes," he said with a nod, slipping his hands into his pockets. "We should go." Maybe he could stop himself from growing fond of this man. Maybe he could do a better job of keeping his distance with someone than he had done with Hope.

Linc wasn't ready either. He wasn't entirely sure that Nic wasn't using this to have some leverage over him later on, to get some dirty secrets and then use them on him later to try and get something out of it. Linc wasn't sure why that would bother him but it did, so he put it out of his mind. Instead he hopped into the truck, waited for Nic to get comfortble, and zoomed out of the parking lot.

He was very aware as to how alert he was of the road, his sight and senses enhanced. He could glance away for a while and continue talking. Not that they had any conversation... "This sounded like a better idea at the time I was writing to you," he confessed. "Now you're in my truck. I'm not sure where it goes from there."

Climbing into the truck, Nic was quiet, trying to think of what to say. It was safer behind the screen on the computer; now, anything he might say felt too exposed. He didn't know what to say. He didn't know what to ask. It was strange, but a small part of Nic felt as though he knew so much about Linc, that he could trust him, But of course he couldn't. Surely, Linc would use any information gained tonight against Nic later. And the reason he thought this was because he had considered that any information he learned tonight could also be used as leverage. Not that he would do that. At least, he didn't think so.

Fidgeting with the sleeve of his coat, Nic had to laugh softly when Lincoln finally spoke up. "I don't know why I agreed to this," he confessed with a meek little shrug. "I was thinking that... well I don't know what I was thinking. Maybe I am lonely too much to refuse going out." After a pause, he added "I am nervous to be in your truck. It would be very easy for you to hurt me. You're not going to, I know that... at least I am thinking that I know that... but because it is possible I can't stop thinking it, si? Do you know what I mean?"

"I know what you mean," Linc nodded in his brooding, quiet way. After a moment he continued, having thought of his words. "If it were the other way around I'd be scared too. But cause I'm the vampire and you're the - apparent - lesser of us I guess that fear is alleviated. There's also an edge, though. We've been enemies since day one and now we're here, you saved my life, I didn't kill you, and we shared..." He flinched at the word. "...things. Things I've not told anybody. And now we're going out for drinks like two lonely old souls with only our enemy as a drinking buddy."

He paused then, wondering if enemy was the right word. "Though I'm not sure I consider you that." Which was scary.

Maybe this was the saddest thing of all. When it came right down to it, the both of them were incredibly lonely. They had taken on befriending the other side of the war just so neither of them had to be lonely. "Is it selfish?" Nic asked after a moment, looking up at Linc. "I know that there are times when you would be wanting to hurt me, and I know that... that if I knew I had to, I would be hurting you too. I know that about us both. Is it selfish to be here, now, and not... fighting? Do you think that any of our friends would understand this?"

Lincoln turned to Nic, confused. Selfish to not be fighting? Bad to not want to beat the fucker up right now? He chuckled then, showing his large white teeth in a grin full of mirth before he shook his head. "Well colour us like Romeo and fuckin' Juliet. I don't think my hunter clan would understand this, no. I think they'd believe that I was trying to infiltrate your plans and make you drop your guard. And I'd think your friends would believe you're doing the same. But while we maybe should be doing that after years of practice and being what we are - we're not. At least I'm not. I should be, but I'm not."

Linc's face looked totally different when he smiled. It made Nic smile as well. Even with fangs, that smile was infectious. Linc looked like an entirely different man when he was happy, which Nicanor wasn't sure he had ever seen before. "I think my network would be angry with me for going into this alone," he added. "They would think that I am... what was it you said? Infiltrate? We do not spy unless we have backup, and people who know where we are and what we are doing. It is not wise to do it in another way." Leaning against the window to turn and face Linc more, Nicanor shook his head a little. "When you are smiling, you do not look like you. It is not even because of your new fangs. In all this time that I have been watching you, I don't think I have ever seen you look that way."

Lincoln gave him an odd look as he glanced at Nicanor. It was an odd observation but probably a correct one. Linc rarely smiled unless it was in dry humour or just to get his own way, like he needed something or thought it was expected of him to smile. This was different. After a moment he chuckled again, a little humbled, giving the other man one more glance. "You're just under my smouldering spell, my friend." A joke, deviating from what Nic might truly mean. It was too scary to think that Nic might be reading him better than anyone else.

Furrowing his brow, Nic frowned. "Smouldering spell?" he asked, confused. "I didn't know vampires could use magic." What would a smouldering spell do, exactly? And why would it make Nicanor more aware of Linc's smile? Considering it a moment more, a realization came into the former lycan's head. Linc wasn't being literal about it. It was a simile. He was being funny.

No. He was... flirting?

Eyes widening slightly, Nic turned to face forward once more. "Oh," he said softly. "I didn't know you were... that way."

Nic was looking strangely at him and then Linc realised why. The language barrier was still clearly present despite Nicanor being decoratively fluent in English. Linc laughed again shaking his head. "It was not a come on and I'm not 'that way.' I was being sarcastic... I was avoiding... shit. Why were you paying attention to my damn smile, anyway? Think I'm sexy?"

The words of the language, and most of the grammar, Nicanor had figured out. Expressions still eluded him sometimes. Many of them didn't make sense, so he had to stop and ponder them a while.

"Oh!" Nic laughed, obviously relieved and a little embarassed. It wasn't like he would have held it against the other man; it was just something he would have rather known in advance. "You are probably very handsome," he said reasonably, looking Linc over a bit. "I just notice that you do not smile very much, and when you do you are different. You look different. Like you are your own hermano."

Lincoln knew a few of the hunters in his clan were gay, but he didn't really think about it all that much because it was weird. He just wasn't into other men's dirty asses.

"Okay I have no idea what a hermano is and I'm not sure I wanna know, because it sounds similar to - and I'm not. So." He cleared his throat then, focusing on the road. He needed this fucking drink. "You're not so bad for a tiny Mexican."

"Hermano is brother," Nic explained, trying not to roll his eyes. "Your compliment is very weak, but I will accept it because it is probably the most I will be getting from you." The fact that Linc was complimenting him at all was surprising, so he wasn't going to push. "I suppose you are not bad for a bigot also."

"I'm my own brother..." Linc repeated, mulling it over and not completely understanding the reference. He sniggered a little at Nicanor's observation, then stared at him with wide eyes. It took him a moment then he laughed, patting the wheel. "Riiight. I guess I deserve that."

There had been a moment, in the quiet, when Nic had wondered if Linc was going to receive that backhanded compliment well. It was completely true to call the man a bigot, but that didn't mean he would like hearing about it. And Nic remembered very well those fangs in his neck, and it wasn't an experience he wished to repeat. So when Linc finally laughed, Nic did too. In relief. "It is both easy and difficult to talk to you," he pointed out. Rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, he added with a small frown "It doesn't make sense to me, but there are moments when I forget who you are. I know who you are, I remember your name and your face but I forget why it is I know you. It feels like it is too easy to forget what has happened between us both, where we come from." Giving a quick, sideways glance, Nic fished the pack of cigarettes from his coat pocket and fidgeted with the plastic wrapping. "I did not decide yet if this is good or bad for me."

Nicanor was very easy with his thoughts, admitting them aloud and sharing. It wasn't very Lincoln to do it but he didn't feel like he was being judged. It was confusing. He was supposed to hate this man, to find him disgusting and an abomination. He was supposed to see him as a slight on the human race, exterminate him and his ideals... but he didn't. Nicanor appeared harmless enough and he supposed that was a great part of his success. Nobody expected him to be a revolutionary mastermind.

"Cigarettes or talking to me?" he asked.

Chuckling, Nic tapped the carton in his hand. "I know that these are not good for me," he said softly, looking down at them. "There is a warning label on them. When something tells you by itself that it is bad for you, you should not use it, si?" It was the simplest thing in the world. If there was a warning, there was a reason for a warning, and you should follow that warning.

"When someone else gives you a warning about something," he continued, "you should listen to their words. But warnings can be wrong, that is true. Still... it is something to think about." He was being cryptic and he knew it, but he was sure that Linc could easily make the leap. "You come with a warning. So do I, I think. But here we are." Smiling wryly, he took a cigarette from the pack and held it between his fingers. "Giving each other cancer, si?"

Linc gave a wry breath of amusement. "Lucky for me I can't catch cancer, not in this form. You're probably unlikely to get it. I think what we give each other is a form of disease not seen on any man but only in his head. Doubt." Nicanor could be cryptic and so could he. But Linc hated playing games unless the outcome was in his favour, so he dropped it pretty quickly.

"You are not the shit-stirring, human hating revolutionary. You have valid points. I guess I've shown you I'm not an entirely unfeeling, bloodthirsty monster. I say entirely, because... you know why." He saw a sign for a bar and followed it, slowing down to try and smell the scent of beer in the air. Handy, these powers. Linc was glad he'd stopped short of telling Nicanor that he kind of liked him. That was not an admission he wanted to make. Ever.

Doubt. That spoke volumes, that got right to the heart of the matter. They forced one another to doubt. Nic didn't doubt his cause, not for one second, but Linc made him wonder if this really was the only way to do it.

When the truck pulled into the parking lot and the engine was killed, Nic put a hand on Linc's shoulder to stay him a moment. "You are not a monster at all," he said sincerely, brown eyes piercing into Linc's. "I think you are more human now than you were before. You can appreciate it more now, what you had. How normal it felt." Holding the gaze just a moment, Nic turned and climbed out of the truck, lighting up his cigarette almost the second his feet hit the gravel of the parking lot. He definitely needed one right now.

Lincoln waited a moment after Nicanor got out of the truck, leaving the new vampire to sit in silence. Lincoln didn't doubt his own cause either; there was evil in the world, unthinkable evil which had no conscience and tore apart lives. They did not have ideals, humanity, recognise anything but themselves. They were insane creatures of destruction.

But Nicanor wasn't. He stared after the man in confusion. Time was that he'd run the moment these thoughts plagued him, reverse the car and leave him there. Not tonight. He joined his drinking buddy as he smoked, nudging him. "Selfish," he said. "No cancer stick for me?"

Thankful that Linc was staying in the car a moment, Nic took a deep drag from his cigarette, and exhaled slowly. So, this was happening. Drinking with the enemy. On the plus side, Nic knew that he could hold his liquor well. Actually, he thought he could. As a lycan, it was easier. But now that he was mostly human, his tolerance had gone way down. But he didn't realize that yet.

Holding out the pack for Linc, Nicanor let him take a stick before offering his lighter. "Is it hard to force yourself to breathe?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow. It was strange, thinking about not needing to breathe, and having to make yourself do so in order to talk. Talking came so naturally to most people. But a vampire would have to make the effort for it.

Lincoln lit the cigarette, letting the smoke seep in and wash around his dormant lungs. After a moment he pushed the muscles and the smoke was blown out, even through his nose. "I don't think of it. Along with my heart, it's shut down the need to move my lungs but sometimes I think I do it out of habit. Don't get any benefit of oxygen - just bags of air."

He took another drag - or what it would seem as a drag - before he strolled back towards the bar. "What's your poison?"

Nodding slowly, Nic took another drag, this time holding it awhile. Yes, it was very bad for you, but it was so damn soothing it almost made up for it. He had noticed that, since changing what he was, the nicotine had a stronger effect on him. Was it less for the vampire? Did it have any effect at all, or was it just habit? He hadn't wanted to ask Miss Hope too many questions, because he hadn't wanted to be a bother, but he felt no such reservation around Linc.

"Tequila," Nic replied simply, shrugging because he knew it was stereotypical of him, but it was the truth. "Also, whiskey shooters. Sometimes I will drink a cosmopolitan when I am with girls. They think it is funny." He knew why they thought it was funny, and while it was a little embarassing, he didn't mind if it made them smile. "I knew very many girls in Texas, they were very kind to me." After a pause, he smiled fondly, and added "Most of the time." It was in that town that Nic had learned what "guyliner" was, and also where he wished he hadn't.

Linc nodded along until Nicanor said about the other drinks but when he got to the confession of Cosmopolitan he sniggered on the exhale, smoke rising into the air. "A cosmo? Wow. Subtle." He then flicked the ash and took a final drag before he stubbed the cigarette out. "Texan girls are fine, man, they're just dumb as shit most the time. It's the fiery ones that can get you good." He paused and then gestured to the bar. "Shall we? I want some JD. Man drink. I'll buy you one, twinkle toes."

He was finding that he enjoyed Nic's company as he walked into the bar, immediately ordering from the barkeep and sliding onto a stool. It was a better place to keep drinking.

Frowning, Nic flicked his own butt and followed Lincoln into the bar. "They were not stupid," he said, displeased. It hardly seemed fair to form an opinion about people based on their geographical location. Although, Nic did sometimes wonder about the American women and their habits.

Climbing up onto the stool, Nic drummed his fingers on the bar, trying to recall if he had ever heard the phrase "twinkle toes" before. He had a good idea as to what it meant, though. "I could not let you pay for me," he said, giving Linc a sideways glance.

Lincoln was quiet as Nicanor gave that pathetic attempt as an argument. He knew most of them were stupid but there were a select few he'd liked. Generalisations were commonplace. Nicanor was guilty of that as well.

If Nic expected Linc to argue he was wrong. "Fair enough," he shrugged. "Pay for your own shit. I bet it takes you three drinks to fall on your ass." He wasn't too sure about his own resistance to the alcohol.

"Three?" Raising an eyebrow, Nic turned slightly to look at Linc. "I do not think so. I have been drinking since I was twelve years old. It takes very much more than three." When the bartender came over to give Linc his order, Nic smiled up at him, patting the bar. "Dos Equis, por favor, y trés tequila shooters." The bartender seemed skeptical that this little guy could handle all that liquor, but he shrugged and dutifully went about his business, grabbing lime wedges and pouring the liquor and popping open the beer bottle.

While waiting for his order, Nic rested his elbow on the bar, propping up his head as he looked over at Linc. "How much do you think it will take until you feel something, Edward Cullen?" He smirked, pleased with himself for both the insult and the pop culture reference.

Lincoln looked a little oddly at Nicanor, eyebrows raising as he ordered but then shrugged and paid attention to his own drink. It was nice, burning down his throat but it didn't hold the taste that it had before. Damnit. He hated being a vampire, what was the point if he couldn't taste fucking alcohol? He gave a rather indifferent glance at Nicanor's reference, found it funny that he was so proud of himself for it.

"I dunno, El Nombre, let's see what happens."

Puzzled, Nic stared at Linc, his little brow furrowed and his lips frowning. El Nombre? He didn't get it. He even gave it another moment's thought because maybe it was an American expression, but no. He didn't get it. "The name?" he asked finally, nodding his thanks to the bartender as the drinks were set down before him. "You cannot say just any spanish word to me and think you are speaking my language." Smiling a little, Nic sipped his beer. "Porque le hace sonar como un idiota."

Linc was already on his second glass and he glanced at Nicanor, giggling. He wondered if he'd search for it later; a mexican Gerbil revolutionary was fitting for Nicanor so maybe he'd find it funny later on. Then he had to go and insult him. Linc didn't much care for that. "Sólo un idiota subestima empresa tranquilo," was his reply and he stared ahead, ignoring any reaction.

Well that came out of left field. Eyes widening, Nic's mouth hung open a little as he stared at Linc for a moment, trying to process that perfectly comprehensive sentence that had come out of his mouth. Since when did he speak Spanish??

Finally, Nic managed to close his mouth, and take another long drink of beer. And then he could properly respond. "You can tell me that I underestimate you, but you do not know the word for brother?" With a scoff, and a laugh, he shook his head and took one of his shooter glasses, then slid one over to Linc. "You are un idiota. No preguntas. Now drink with me, sí?"

"I know the words that matter," Linc replied evenly, a smirk tugging at the sides of his mouth. He liked that he'd so obviously taken Nicanor by surprise that this mini victory was another tally to his list. The third drink was downed. He didn't feel any sort of hit yet. This depressed him but he took Nicanor up on his offer and downed another two.

"Then catch the hell up," he teased him, clinking his glass against the other man's. "Night is young but you're not."

"I think your priorities are not level," Nic noted, thinking that the word 'brother' was a very important one indeed. He had brothers at home, he had brothers on the streets. It was as important a word to him as 'hello'. Still, Linc seemed to be a loner even amongst his people (at least that was the impression Nic got of him), so it was no small surprise that this word wasn't one he knew in Spanish.

Tossing down his shooter, then sucking hard on the lime wedge, Nic shook his head and grimmaced before setting the glass down again. "I am twenty two," he said dryly, reaching for the next shooter. "I am not old. Sometimes I think it does feel that way, but it is not so. Not yet." And then he drank down the next, motioning for another two. Tequila was easy, he could do this all night.

Lincoln almost spat out his drink at the admission of his true age. That was far stranger than anything else little El Nombre had said all evening. Or at all. Now it was Nic's turn to beam a little with smug pride, although it didn't last long. Only long enough for him to gulp down his shooter, drink a thrid of his beer, then ready himself for another shot of tequila. Slowly, he turned to look at Linc, his dark eyes narrowed in irritability and confusion. Many people thought he was very young, which helped him go about unnoticed and underestimated.

"Have you ever walked your way through a river, cut your way through a fence while avoiding being shot, been bitten and ripped apart by a horrible rabid coyote, lived beneath the sight of the government for four years, have met and said goodbye to many good people, watched many of those good people be killed, get shot and bleed in a very nice office of a very nice woman, and then be half eaten by a vampire?" With a small nod and a tip of his glass, Nic gave Lincoln a look. "When you have done this, see how good you look."

Seeing the offended look on the teenybopper's face was quite amusing. If he hadn't wanted to save face he'd have burst out laughing at him but Lincoln was interested to know exactly what Nicanor wanted to express. Apparently it was his life story in a nutshell, which being five years Linc's junior was quite impressive for a start, but still.

At his drinking companion's little nod, as if that settled the fact and he had won, Lincoln nodded too, as if making no attempt to come back. Wrong. "I have not done a lot of those things, no," he admitted. "I have however, listened to my family as they died. I've seen their blood on the walls of my home. I've been shot by various bullets and poisoned arrows around fifty times, held my breath for ten minutes while a fire raged our hunter's home, been resuscitated from the brink of death or just beyond more times than I care to count.... I've had five different names, seven different cover stories, I've lost two fathers and fourteen brothers. I've seen hives die and gods rise, children perish and the good turn evil. Most of all I've seen any chance of a normal life pass me the hell on by to do what I do, and I've not even a dime to show for it." He took a swig from the bottle. "I still look damn good, though."

Linc had gone into the details of his life to more of a degree than Nic had chosen to, and in a way the younger man was glad for it. If Linc was willing to speak this way, to show so much of himself even when he tried to seem indifferent to it, it meant that he wasn't trying to gain information. It meant that he was just here, in this night, just being friendly. He was just here.

Quiet a moment more, finishing off his beer, Nic took in a deep breath, sighed, then set the bottle down. "You do look good," he said seriously, a bit of a twinkle in his eyes. "Considering how old you are, I think you are looking very good. When was your birthday when you turned sixty? Five, six years ago?"

Linc had only gone into more detail because he hadn't had a chance to share anything like that before. He hadn't allowed himself to. He felt odd having done it but better nonetheless. Disguising his uncertainty in more swigs he then shot a hard look at Nic which wasn't short of mirth. "Oh you think it's funny to call a 27 year old sixty?" he prodded him, then literally with a finger. "I'll be lucky if I reach that age poindexter."

Grinning, Nicanor nodded. "Yes, I do think it is funny," he admitted, swirling the bit of beer left in the bottle. "I don't know what a poin... poindex is, but I think you are insulting me. If you are not, then I would like to know what this means, and if you are, fuck you." And then Nic giggled, mainly to himself, because he did not swear often so when he did it sounded foreign to himself. And the funny part was that he was swearing in a foreign language, with a word that made himself sound foreign, and that tickled him. He couldn't even find himself to be annoyed if Lincoln really had insulted him, he felt so tickled. Clearly the tequila was starting its magic.

Seeing a very drunk little Mexican dude who had, until recently, been considered an enemy made Lincoln laugh slightly. He was sure that had Nic been his usual self he wouldn't have felt the effect of the Tequila half as quick as he was now. Linc on the other hand, was not feeling a tiny bit tipsy. Stupid vampire genes. This gave him an advantage once again. "I called you a poindexter, which means a smart ass. Which you are. Though if brains were measured by ass size you would be low on the scale."
