Tuesday 12th May 09
Who: Ava and Charlie.
What: Going for a ride.
Where: Starting in the school parking lot.
When: Tuesday

Ava was still adjusting to being so damn emotional, apparently from other people's feelings. It was almost as annoying as the ever-changing hair and eye colors had been, so it wasn't so surprising when she agreed to meet Charlie so easily. It would be a nice change from being subjected to the emotions of the people in this school... at least that was her excuse. It was possible she just wanted to see him, although she was nervous about having to be so near and aware of his emotions.

Still out of sight, she adjusted her outfit, took a deep breath, and walked out, towards where she anticipated Charlie and his bike to be. Running her fingers through her hair as she walked, Ava may have been trying to project a sexy persona as a cover for being nervous. "Enjoying the sun?" She asked with a laugh as she reached him.

Charlie was relaxed, sitting in the grass next to the parking lot by his bike. His legs were outstretched, his head tilted back. Sure, it was a little overcast, but he was still outside while it was daylight. He'd forgotten how good the sun felt, even when covered at times by clouds. "Like I've never enjoyed it before," he told her without opening his eyes. Instead, he continued to let the rays from above beat down on him.

Finally though, Charlie put his hand up to shade his eyes as he looked upon Ava. She was dressed sexy as ever but still appropriate for a ride. Charlie was looking a bit scruffy, both because of the significant stubble on his face and his relaxed attire. "I don't think other people appreciate the day like we do. They just.. can't." Which was the main reason he'd invited Ava to join him over everyone else. She was human now too, and they'd never known each other as humans.

Damnit, he didn't even have his eyes open to see her trying to look sexy as she walked over to him. Nevermind. She probably shouldn't have been doing it anyway. They were just friends now, or something along those lines.

Since Charlie showed no signs of getting up just yet, and she wasn't in a particular hurry, as much as escaping the school was her ultimate plan, Ava folded herself to the ground next to him, enjoying the sun too. "You never really know how important something is until you've lost it, that's what they say isn't it?" She answered, looking up into the sky instead of at him as she spoke, although she did turn eventually. "I like this relaxed look of yours. That shirt suits you." Oh god did it suit him.

Charlie raised an eyebrow at her words. There were soooo many layers of meaning to be found there. "Yeah, something like that," he said softly. There were a lot of things he missed. Things he'd not fully appreciated until he lost them.

"You do? Thanks," he said softly with a little smile. He fell back to lie fully in the grass, soaking up more sunshine as he rolled and pushed up the sleeves of his cotton shirt. "I can't stop eating.. and I don't want to work at all. I just want to sit outside and stuff my face. Everything tastes so fucking amazing. And even cloudy days are awesome. I wouldn't care if it started to rain right now. Still wouldn't go inside."

Ava was well aware of other ways her words could be taken, but she was hoping they could pretend she was just talking about the sun, even if they both knew it could easily be about the two of them. It was natural for her to miss some of what they had had though, it didn't have to mean anything too deep... right?

Taking off her biker jacket, she lay back in the grass alongside him. The shirt could get mud and dirt on if needed, that jacket could not. It had sentimental and financial worth. Laughing, Ava turned her head though, looking to Charlie. "I know the feeling. I've still been trying to exercise though, to make up for the ridiculous amounts of food I've eaten. I wish I knew how long this was going to last so I could go back to New York. Central Park and food from some of my favourite places... it would make this even more of a gift." She moaned happily. "What would you do if you knew we had exactly 24 more hours to enjoy this?" It was quite a deep and meaningful question and discussion for her, but she felt safe enough with Charlie, despite everything else, to be able to let herself be like that.

"Work and working out are not priorities for me right now," he said with a chuckle. He knew this couldn't be permanent, so he didn't want to waste time. He also didn't much care if he suddenly changed back while sitting outside in the sun. Not like Charlie had a death wish, but he felt it would be a shame to not enjoy this little break from being a vampire. He doubted he'd ever get the chance again.

"Well, as much as I'd hate to waste time on a plane, I'd fly back to California to visit mom's grave and then go to the beach."

He turned his head to look at her, reaching down to grab hold of her hand, his fingers lacing with hers. "You look beautiful in the sun."

She laughed again as he told her about his priorities. "I thought about it and decided that being able to taste food again and enjoying it as much as I can while I can was more important than not having to exercise, especially since I can do it in the sun." Ava pointed out. "I did have to go out and buy running shoes though. It's been a long time since I owned any."

Her smile softened and there was a look of genuine warmth in response to his plans. "I think that sounds... perfect for you." She said softly, looking down at his fingers as he then laced his with them and complimented her too. "I look beautiful at night too." Yes, she was joking at a sweet moment, but she couldn't afford to let herself fall into where his words could take her in her head. She didn't want to think about everything she lost and let herself get hurt again.

"I don't think I've ever seen you run.. or exercise at all." It felt really foreign in his mind. The only 'exercise' Ava took part in involved a partner and a lack of clothing. "You would look weird in sweats." She was always dressed up for naked when with him. Or wearing some of his clothing and little else.

Charlie sighed and rolled his eyes, looking back up at the sky. "Don't dismiss an honest compliment just because it makes you uncomfortable. You can pull that shit with other people, but not with me." He released her hand and placed both of his on his abdomen. Why couldn't she simply enjoy this moment and leave all the bullshit behind. Games were okay in the beginning, but not now. He was tired of them.

"I don't ever wear 'sweats' as such, but maybe you will get to see for yourself if we both manage to keep enjoying the sun a little longer." She said with a laugh. She knew people would have trouble imagining her exercising in the traditional sense, which was what made it so amusing.

Ava sighed and rolled her eyes too at his annoyance. "I'm sorry, was I meant to smile and say thank you? Thank you." She smiled before sitting up. "Or did you want the truth? It hurts to hear you say things like that and know it is just as a friend Charlie. You know that though, so excuse me if I go for the easier option of making light."

"Alright. How 'bout you join me for a run tomorrow at dawn. Get yourself some shoes tonight, and you can come with me and Cassius. He's so excited about this. As much as he loves Cassie, he's happy to go on runs with me during the day again." And Charlie loved it too. He could hardly drag himself inside.

Charlie looked at her carefully when she sat up. "Maybe I didn't mean it as just a friend," he admitted. His sudden, unexplained absence and all the stress involving his family had made it difficult to spend time with McKenna. They'd gotten off to a slow start, too slow, and now it seemed to be going nowhere. He wasn't really seeing her. He wasn't seeing anyone.

"Going running with a man who does it regularly, that sounds fair." She joked. "I suppose I can try though. I do have running shoes I bought last week, clothes that will work, and I can't resist your dopey dog. You are forbidden from laughing at me though."

A short despairing laugh was her response to that. "I'm not sure if that is any better since we can't be more than friends and we've already established that. I can't believe I'm even saying this. I don't know if the things I'm feeling are what you did to me, how you made me more vulnerable, or if it's these stupid empathic abilities I've adopted, but it scares me either way." Arrrgh! She hated this!

"I'll take it easy on you. I'm human again, so I don't have the same endless energy." That was a perk, but Charlie had missed the feeling of being truly exhausted after a good run. As a vampire, he didn't really get out of breath or sweat. Two things he missed. And not just from running.. "I'll tell Cassius to be nice too."

Charlie sat up too and reached out to take her hand again, looking into her eyes. "Use your new abilities then and tell me what I'm feeling right now." He felt love for her. Still. It had changed, but it was still very much alive inside of him. And maybe it was the whole being human again thing, but his heart ached for her in a way that went well beyond friendship. He still craved her, he was just getting better at ignoring the feeling and not letting it show on the outside.

"You're still used to running, and I haven't had to exercise past pilates or whatever the latest fad was in quite a while, even before I was turned." She pointed out. Most of what kept her body in fantastic shape before she was turned was sex and drugs and not eating as much. Any other things she did was for the sake of society and possibly a little toning.

Ava didn't take her hand out of his, but she didn't make it easy for him to look into her eyes, and she didn't actively do anything. "Charlie... please don't do this. I don't think either of us can handle it." She said softly, tearing up. There was no way to escape his emotions and they were muddling with hers, which she was probably pushing out into one big mess that people had better hope they didn't walk into.

Charlie would argue she was not in fantastic shape from not eating and using a lot of drugs. Sex was a good workout though, especially the way Ava did it. She was an athletic fuck. Something he couldn't help thinking about right now.

"Sorry," he said in a way that didn't sound apologetic at all. And he didn't give her a second to call him out on it either. He tugged her hand and quickly pressed his warm lips to her own. It felt like kissing her for the first time, because they were both human now. He'd never experienced her like this before. He smoothed his free hand back through her hair. Charlie hadn't put a lot of thought into this. He didn't want to. He'd been over-thinking everything with Ava in recent months. Charlie was sick of thinking.

Her body was in good enough shape to make men drool and to look extremely good in the clothes she wore, and that was what fantastic shape meant to Ava. He would have been right about sex being the only good thing she regularly did though, if not the only pleasurable one.

There wasn't enough time to anticipate the kiss before his lips were on hers, and although she paused, surprised at first, she did respond, her free hand on his chest. It felt good, it felt... right, and she wasn't thinking about all the emotions, just feeling the good, until she eventually parted. "We probably shouldn't..." She trailed off, but her eyes flickered to his lips and she wanted to kiss him again, possibly do more too.

Charlie didn't want to pull back, but he had to breathe, and she broke her lips away from his first. He licked his lips, tasting her there. Charlie didn't let her go, he was still very close to her. Close enough to feel the heat coming off her body. She was so warm and inviting, and the sun, while partly hiding behind the clouds, lit her eyes beautifully.

But her words got a nod out of him, and he slowly let his hand drop from her hair. "Alright," he whispered. She'd kissed him back, but it may have simply been instinctive.

Ava didn't move away from him either. Truth be told she was disappointed when he took her words and agreed so easily, even if it didn't sound completely convincing. They really shouldn't fall into this trap again though, so it was probably for the best he didn't tempt her, at least not so overtly. Just his being there was tempting. "I just meant... with everything else, and..." She never finished her sentence, closing the small distance to kiss him again.

He didn't have a chance to ask her to elaborate on what she meant by 'everything else,' because Ava's lips were upon his again. Charlie didn't hesitate to grab hold of her when she did. He missed her so much. He missed this even though it was different now. There was a lot of baggage between them, but he couldn't feel it right now. The warmth was enough to make him forget, and their emotions were feeding one another.

Charlie had wanted to go for a ride on his bike, but now he was thinking maybe they could put that on hold for an hour? His apartment was far more tempting at the moment. Ava could ride him first.

An hour? They may be human now and lacking some of their agility and stamina but she was sure they could distract each other for more than an hour given the chance. It was definitely on her mind. Parting briefly, she couldn't help but smile a little. "Mmm.... should we be doing this in the parking lot?" She asked, making no move to move though, infact kissing him again before he could answer.

"No.. we shouldn't," he commented when he was able while wearing a grin that indicated he was cooking up a plan in his head. "But I don't really wanna go inside either." He didn't want to waste daylight hours. Who knew how many more he had left?

Charlie got to his feet and offered his hand to help her up. He handed her a helmet then. "Come on." They'd find a place that was private to continue this without having to sacrifice the sun. It was warm enough to stretch out naked in a field somewhere.

That grin... It wasn't hard to guess what he was thinking, and she was right there with him, even when it came to not really wanting to go inside. Grabbing her jacket, Ava took his hand and let him help her to her feet, definitely on board with where she hoped this was going. "I really hope your phone is turned off this time." She joked before pulling the helmet on, referencing that first ride they took together. Who knew if it was just the insanity of all the race switches, or the sunlight, but she wasn't brought down by thinking of where they had started, just determined to enjoy what she hoped was about to come. It had been a long time since she had sex in the sun.

Charlie's smile warmed when she mentioned his phone. He pulled it out of his pocket to show her that it was indeed turned off. He'd learned his lesson after that first ride together, and now that his family was back in town to take care of Maggie when necessary, and he was no longer the head of security, he didn't feel the need to keep his phone on at all times. He could take a break from everyone else and just focus on himself and his own happiness for a while.

After securing his own helmet, Charlie climbed onto the bike and helped Ava up behind him, wrapping her arms tightly around his chest. Having her close felt right. This didn't erase all the painful memories, but at the moment it was hard to think of anything other than the good ones.

Charlie took off and headed out of town. He didn't want anyone bothering them. They drove quite a ways, eventually ending up in a state park. Miles of land with no one around. Charlie rolled to a stop along the old road, which seemed less traveled. He pulled off his helmet and looked around. "Wanna explore?" he asked her.

The fact he not only got the reference but showed her it was turned off already made Ava laugh happily. This wasn't exactly her normal self, but his happiness was infectious. Literally. Weirdest of all, she was going with it instead of letting herself get freaked out by that.

Riding with her arms around him, it brought up a lot of memories for her too, good and bad, she just chose to focus on the good ones as much as possible. It left room for doubt though, especially getting away from the multitude of emotions that battered her at the school, and some of those doubts had started to creep in by the time they finally stopped. Oh but when they had their helmets off and he was looking at her... that seize the moment attitude came back.

"Wanna have sex in the grass?" She asked straight out, moving in closer to look up at him with a seductive and daring look.

Charlie laughed out at her direct proposition. "I missed that about you," he said as the chuckles lingered. "Never afraid to speak your mind and ask for what you want."

But rather than answer her, he grabbed hold of her hand and walked, without urgency, away from the road as he pocketed his keys. He was quiet, but she was an empath now. She'd know how he felt. She'd probably know without the strange new power.

He found a spot a decent distance from the road and moved to sit down, pulling her with him. "Just don't play games with me, okay? We're past that. You can do that shit with other people.. not me."

Sometimes Ava was all about the games and manipulating things in her favor, but sometimes, yes, she was incredibly direct. She was sure Charlie was thinking the same thing anyway, so she may as well just come out and say it. The lack of clear answer from him would have been simultaneously frustrating and intriguing as he led her away if not for the empath abilities actually helping for once. She knew she would get what she wanted unless something else came up.

Something like he was apparently thinking of. Laughing, she sat down with him, not letting go of his hand and pretended to think about whether she could do as he asked. "I will try to only play the games you like today." She finally answered, leaning in to kiss him again.

Charlie gave a nod, accepting her answer. He could handle that. There were some games he liked a great deal. He just didn't want to deal with all the head games that caused him to wonder what she was thinking or where this was heading. For right now, it was sex. He missed her and wanted her, and he wanted to enjoy her in the sunshine. That was it. But he couldn't say he didn't love her, and he knew Ava still loved him. If things changed, they'd need to address them, not run away from them. Good thing he had the keys and her only means of getting back to school short of walking.

Kissing her in return, Charlie moved to lie down, pulling Ava with him. He pushed off her jacket, recognizing it but not saying so. She'd worn it the last time they were in such a position. Continuing to pepper her lips with attention, Charlie worked on removing her shirt next. Maybe all he'd needed was some time to get over the hurt he'd felt. Months ago, this couldn't have happened. He was too angry then. Now he didn't care about all the shit they'd been through, he just missed her.

Why risk games when they could easily just go with the uncomplicated sex option? It could work as long as he didn't start getting too emotional and these stupid empath abilities didn't cause an issue. She would much rather not have anything to address at all. Not now, not while they were enjoying the sun.

Charlie would be able to feel the smile on her lips even as she kissed him back, not even fussing about her jacket getting thrown aside, only wishing her shirt would go the same way and deciding to do something about it. Sitting up momentarily she peeled it off and threw it aside to leave just her bra on her top half. Charlie however... he needed to lose some clothing, and she set to unbuttoning his shirt slowly, from the top to the bottom, kissing, licking and nipping at the skin as she exposed it.

Charlie relaxed on his back with a grin, watching Ava remove her shirt and then start work on his. His eyes lacked focus. They flitted around between her hands, her body, her face. She was beautiful, especially in the daylight. Ava may have preferred to keep this simple, but it was impossible for Charlie to not get emotional. He loved her, and that feeling swelled within him.

When she was done unbuttoning his shirt, he pulled her to his lips again, kissing her with fervor. Charlie was able to unfasten his jeans at the same time, reaching into them to stroke himself to hardness.

Of course there was love that was all Ava's touching everything they did and swirled in with the lust that drove this, but she didn't want that love, or his, to complicate things and pull in anything else. She wanted to enjoy this time with Charlie and leave expectations of what it meant to another time.

This was something they had always been good at, from that first time in the music room to the last time before he left for California. This they knew how to do. She kissed him sensually and offered him a 'hand' without missing a beat. See how well he could concentrate on getting her jeans off her with Ava using every little caress and movement she knew would drive him mad.
