Rose smoothed back her blonde hair, deeply aware of her dark roots and the fluttering of her stomach. This man had to be wrong, had to be confused. Her boyfriend? No...She would never look at anyone who wasn't the Doctor, and if this man was anything like the Doctor, he would never look at her.

What if he was some echo of those things that attacked her mind, made her think the Doctor was back and dismissing her out of hand? She smoothed her hair again, and checked that her gun was within easy reach.

"Most of the time, let my mouth run away with me." John shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck. "But that first time, we got into an argument, I accused you of keeping me around just so you could pretend you had your own pet Doctor to shag when you pleased..." He paused, lowering his gaze to look at his feet.

"Except, I didn't use the word 'shag'...and I asked if you wanted to just chain me to the bed...cause clearly that was all I was good for."

"You did cry...and then you kicked me out of the house...mansion...what ever you call Pete's," John replied with a heavy sigh. "Wouldn't speak to me for at least a week, I ended up sleeping at Torchwood...which I hated."

He looked at her, not able to feel what she was feeling like he would with her future self but knowing her well enough to recognise the feelings upon her face. "I know. We hadn't even...you know...then. I hated myself for those words but being dismissed all the time and looked at like I was an intruder or evil...well, it hurt."
