For some reason, the goblins always ended to give her the weird assignments on the new moon. Gem wasn't sure if it was because she was crankier than normal, or if they thought she had more patience, but after trawling through some dead eccentric's labryinthine house, she had come away with quite a haul for the very pleased goblins. Most of them had been easy to nullify and turn over to the bank, but this one, this one had been a puzzle.
It was a strange amalgamation of something magical and something mechanical, layered with runes, astronomical glyphs, and alchemical symbols. On it's own, it wouldn't have been too hard to figure out, but she had never learned much about mechanics, and what metal-charming she knew was pretty much all about either getting metal out of her way, or cleaning jewelry. She doubted whatever the answer was to solving this thing, melting it would not be that answer. Which is how she found herself at the only magical mechanic that she knew existed. She just hoped they would have a better idea, as she glanced around the garage in interest. She knew very little about all of this, but she did like breaking things down and figuring out how they worked. It was why she was a cursebreaker. Well, that and she was an adrenaline junkie.
She wasn't bothered by the grease either, and got slightly distracted by something in pieces over in a corner, walking over to peer at it, and see if she could figure out how it went back together and for what purpose, her strange mechanical octogon still in her other hand. She reached out to poke a random piece, curious. Maybe she really should learn more about this. It might pop up more in her works, and hey, she had just been complaining about needing a hobby, right? It was just a bonus that something so obviously grimy would make her mother despair.
