RP: I Don't Have To Be What I Was
Date: 28 October 2001
Characters: Severus Snape
Location: Spinner's End
Rating/Warnings: None
Private/Public: Private
Summary: Severus makes a decision that will shock his former students.
Severus paced slowly back and forth across main room at Spinner’s End. He’d been thinking quite a bit about what Regulus had said at the Higgs’ party. Not the serious stuff. None of that had been particularly new and he could think about that at any time. Instead he’d been dwelling on the suggestion Regulus had made that he deserved to have fun. Snog people. Shag them. Enjoy himself.
He honestly hadn’t thought about doing that. Partly because he was busy adjusting to what had happened to him but mostly because... well, because it felt like he’d been tense ever since he’d gotten on the train in First Year. Becoming a Death Eater then a spy had just ratcheted up the tension to an almost unbearable level.
But he didn’t have to do that anymore. He couldn’t be a spy and he didn’t have to be a Death Eater anymore. He didn’t have to teach. He could do what he liked both personally and professionally.
Professionally... he’d think about that later. He still had enough in his vault to last him for at least a few more months before he’d have to find a job of some description. But personally... well, that was a different matter. The thought of Lily wafted through his mind but he shoved that very firmly away. That was a broken dream, even more so now when her son was almost his age. Maybe it was time to move past that. He’d apparently done what he’d promised to do – he’d helped to defeat Voldemort. That he was back was irrelevant except in terms of what trouble he was going to cause before the Ministry came to their sense and had him Kissed.
There was the masquerade at Eros on Halloween. A masquerade would be a perfect opportunity for him to try and have some fun without being judged for actions and attitudes that he had no memory of. He could hide behind a mask and a costume and see what happened.
He smiled slightly and stalked over to the peg where his cloak hung. If he was going to do this, he would need a costume. A fun one.
