Completion: Complete
The first half of Terry's first day of work hadn't been as exciting as he'd hoped. Most of his time had been spent taking care of administrative details, not getting his hands dirty in the lab. He'd thought that during the interview process all the papers had been signed, but apparently there were a slew of first-day contracts and rules and regulations that he had to go through before he could even step foot in the labs. He finished the last of the documents just before lunch, and Mrs. O'Dell, the administrative assistant to the head of the Charms department, waved him off with a vacant smile and poor directions to the cafeteria level of the ministry.
He finally managed to navigate his way through the maze of elevators and corridors when he realized he'd forgotten to bring his lunch down with him. He didn't want to go all the way back, by the time he found his way his lunch hour would be over. Wrinkling his nose in disgust with himself, he reluctantly headed for the line of disgruntled Ministry employees waiting for House Elves to fill their tray. It wasn't that he didn't think Ministry food would be good, he'd just been looking forward all day to his chicken curry and roast beef on rye that Mum had packed for him. She had, in the past months since they'd been in England, decided that she wanted to be a House Mother. Terry gave it until Christmas until she got tired of the role.
Terry tried his best to smile at the House Elves as they piled delicious food on his plate, telling himself that his lunch would keep for tomorrow. The Charms would last for at least five days actually, so there was no reason to fear it would spoil before he had a chance to eat it. Thanking the Elves, he headed for an empty table and took a seat. He was pleased to note that the table he'd found had a good view of the cafeteria and he could watch the other Ministry employees as they went about their lunch.
