Things Fall Apart

It is 1978, and on the streets of London young punks listen to the Sex Pistols and Siouxsie and the Banshees while their parents scan newspaper headlines about the Provisional IRA and poison-tipped umbrellas. But some of those headlining disasters aren't the work of Irish paramilitarists or birds flying into airplane engines or shifting tectonic plates. In Britain - in the other Britain, the hidden Britain that exists above and below the surface of the mundane world - men and women are fighting a bitter, bloody civil war.

Our setting is Wizarding England as the First War reaches its height: Lord Voldemort is ascendant, the Death Eaters are ever more daring, the Ministry is in disarray, and the Order of the Phoenix has begun to suffer its most serious casualties. Nevertheless, good people manage to find joy. But you have to fight for your happiness, now, clutch onto it tightly, carve a space for it out of the chaos. Young couples marry and have babies. They build their lives, hoping for a more peaceful future even as their world falls apart around them.

Things Fall Apart is a First War, post-Hogwarts game focusing specifically on the battle between the Death Eaters under the command of Lord Voldemort and the Order of the Phoenix led by Albus Dumbledore. The cast is specifically limited to those characters who are or will become members of the Death Eaters or the Order of the Phoenix by October 31, 1981.

Our gameplay is conducted primarily via instant messenger. Completed logs are then posted to

thingsfallapart where they may be read by the members and by other users interested in joining the game. Within individual character journals, roleplaying in the form of Owl Post and private diary entries is permitted, but not made the sole focus of gameplay. The aim of Things Fall Apart is to be a plot-based game in which the moderators create community-wide events and members roleplay their characters' participation in and reactions to those events.
