I’ll raise the window for you. Ha. Like she needed that. His scent had been all over her clothes on two separate occasions, she had smelled it on Coyote form and could track him anywhere. It should have offended her but instead she felt a bit pleased, because this had given her a chance to show off. It’s not that Briar needed validation or approval but she did like to be appreciated for her talents. Even her father had spoken to her more and with a different tone when she achieved her second form, a respectable thing. Arguably the most respectful thing she had ever done.
But no one was around who she could impress.
For a year she had been submerged into another country and picked up a whole new life! She wore Bree like a second skin and very few suspected anything was not as she presented it and there was no one here she could even show off to. Even the greatest, most subtle and stealthy thieves told stories in the pub. War heroes had their stories of triumph to go with their scars that would be shared around a pint but most of Briar’s arsenal was hidden away these days. Being a tavern girl/barkeep wasfine, though it did get boring, and repetitive. But. Briar had failed at being a proper Daughter, or a Clovennian Lady, a student, and maybe she had failed at being part of a crew. Maybe that's why her people abandoned her.
So the one thing she did excel at, she wanted to do. To be recognized. That wasn’t so bad, was it? But until now, aside from Simon who she was pretty sure would throw her to the wolves and was possibly more of a snake than some actual snake (shifters) she had met. Not that she didn’t approve of that as a general stance, but she wanted to have a number of tricks up her sleeve. So it came back to not having anyone around who she could impress by being a close approximation of herself without having to be on her toes constantly.
Until Kelly. The fact that meeting him coincided with a re-embracing of a plague it attitude about life in general thanks to that prat Belmont was good luck. He had been right about one thing; this was all she had now. Briar had rejected Clovennian society but it was difficult to shake their values deep down and she had nothing valuable but this.
So why not embrace the one thing she had.
The window where his scent was strongest was not locked she found, after she shifted back into human shape. She shoved it open (mostly) silently with little effort and stepped in carefully. Pants were helpful in this instance, along with shoes designed to be silent while also helping with climbing. She stood still for a moment while her eyes adjusted beore stepping carefully towards the bed.
The stealing was fun. The challenge was good. The fact that if they did this right Belmont would be blamed was better. But the best part was just stirring up tensions between the families, a little chaois and anger in this little slice of the world that she had rejected and that had rejected her so wholly. That was the real draw. Better than any coin or story.
(Not that she couldn't get both of those things still though)
It was unfortunate she would have to take from Beau to do it, but eh. It was nothing he wouldn’t recover from.
