About: | I had hoped to find a good sorting community over here to join, in lieu of the LJ debacle, and was sad to see that there were none yet. While I have had no experience in running any communities, I thought I might as well grab the good names while they're free. If you are interested in getting the community started, either just in joining or in a moderator position, please email me or leave me a comment in my journal. This will be the main sorting community, and The Great Hall will be for people to chat with each other and post about HP-related stuff. Gryffindor House, Hufflepuff House, Ravenclaw House and Slytherin House will be the individual common rooms. -Windsinger Basic Rules for this communitiy I. Be polite. Even if you have little respect for a person, try and treat them with courtesy. II. This is not a community for competition. There will be no house points, and thus no special contests for points. This is not a community for people who want to win. This is very specifically a community for people who want to analyze themselves and other people, and a place for likeminded people to talk and associate with one another. Rules for Sorting I. Joining The Sorting Hat is unmoderated, though to post your application is. Joining The Great Hall or any of the common rooms is moderated, after your application is sorted, you will be accepted into the main community and the community of the house you were sorted into. II. While joining and sending in your application just to see what people say, or to join a Harry Potter community to find friends in, is completely acceptable, I am wanting to have this mostly be for other introspective people like myself who want to find out more about themselves and other people. So please think about how serious you will be about sorting other applications if you are accepted. III. The application questions can be found here. Please take the questions seriously and think about how to answer them, try and tack on 'and why' to many of them. Since much of this is about your speculative life, you can choose whether or not to tell us where you are from, or your name and age. A good rule of thought on formatting is to make a private post to your own journal and see how it looks, ask yourself, would you want to read this? Here is the application filled out by me, you can use it as a sample application if you're having problems figuring out how to answer the questions. Note, the post is friends locked, so you'll need to have joined to read it. IV. Posting behind a cut is required for all applications. There are not, however, any special rules for what you can put in your cut-text or the post name. Just have some common sense about it. V. I will be reading over all applications before accepting them to be posted, and will make judgements on whether or not the legibility and tone is appropriate for the community. So try and make sure you approach things in a polite way, even on topics you feel negatively about, and to try and make sure the spelling and grammar are moderately correct, either by reading your application over again, using spellcheck, or having a friend help edit it. VI. The houses you can sort someone into are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Since Hogwarts invites every magical child in the British Isles, not everyone is going to be particularly spectacular. That means you should do your best to find a house they would be likely to end up in. But for those occasional people who are intelligent and introspective enough to write a full application but who are just impossible to sort, they will be accepted into The Great Hall but not into one of the common room houses. VII. If you feel your current house does not fit you at all, comment at this post to make an appeal. Those who were unable to be sorted in their original application but were accepted into the community can also make an appeal for a house. About the Moderator(s) I. Windsinger (that's me) is the creator and moderator of this community. I will be the one in charge of overviewing all of the applications and making the executive decisions. Once we have more members, I will be making those I trust moderators for the other communities, one within each of the common rooms, and one for the main community. Any offers to help are appreciated. A Last Note I apologize if I sound especially surly in the rules, but I have had some tumultous relationships with sorting communities in the past, and I just wanted to be as blunt as I could with what I am willing to do. All in all, though, I'm just wanting a place to read about new people and to find out information about one of my favorite series, with other people who feel the same as I do! So please feel welcome to join. | ||||||||||
