Delilah slipped her shoes and socks off and stood, bare foot, on the grass near the lake. They were at the farthest point from the castle they could possibly get whilst still being able to see it and she watched a few of the students scurry about on the other side of the lake. Beneath her feet the grass was damp and the ground slightly soft from last night's rain. It was glorious. A stray, strong branch that must have fallen off years ago currently lay discarded near her and Delilah padded over, swinging her shoes in one hand and hopped up onto the branch. It was one of those beautiful days, the kind that signalled the end of winter: it was mild, a crisp fresh wind blowing but the sun was beating down and although she could see her breath in front of her in dense, white clouds everytime she breathed out she didn't feel cold.
Balancing on one leg on the log, Delilah spun to face Dominique, grinning widely at her friend. She looked restless and slightly jittery, she knew, her limbs flying everywhere and the smile she offered perhaps a bit too bright. Or perhaps she just felt it--Delilah couldn't quite distinguish between them. "January's my favourite here. Normally. I don't think it'd be right to say January was my favourite month this year--disrespectful and terribly uncouth considering everything," she started. Then a wicked smile slashed across her face, there and gone. "Although, I tried to say as much to Dad the last letter I wrote him and you know what he said, the bastard? That I could be as disrespectful and as uncouth as I bloody well wanted to be if that was how I felt."
Delilah fell silent again, pacing back and forth on the log, the bark digging into the bare skin of her feet. Then, "What do you think of the whole Committee splitting thing? Honestly. I want honesty. It's such a silly thing, but it's playing on my mind."
