we get to save mermaids! Who: Lia, T., Yasmine and Conor Where: Yokohama, Japan When: Night
"Listen." Lia motioned at T. with the white cup she had been given when she all but demanded - politely asked for, really, but in her head it had been more like a demand - caffeine. This was much later than she would normally be drinking coffee unless she was given a damn good reason because she, unlike some people, happened to enjoy sleeping. Sleeping was one of the easiest things she still had left to do, excusing any of the times she woke up soaked through from nightmares she refused to think about. "There is no way 'Hawaiian Jesus' is going to be your codename. It is just not going to take." Her free hand came up to make a hushing motion at him. "No. Because what if we go on a mission and some version of Jesus is there? Or worse, a real Hawaiian Jesus and he gets pissy about some mortal stealing his name?" These were the things she had thought about just a day ago when they had been waiting for Tali to feed them. Part of her wished Tali was there with them while another - older, more motherly sounding part - was glad she was not. Sure, she knew the younger girl went on missions, but it did not mean she did not worry about her. She worried about T. too when he went off without her.
Relaxing back into her chair after rearranging the remaining cups of coffee on the small table they had nabbed, Lia found herself fingering the silver charms on her bracelet. She had spent the first hour, along with packing, wracking her mind to think of what might come in handy in the upcoming situation. Too bad she had not actually tried out her shark form yet or else she might have given that a shot, but there was no way in hell she was going to test something out in the field, under duress. Bad enough doing a shift she knew inside out, like the polar bear with it's knife-like claws or the surprisingly enduring pelican she preferred when the ocean was involved, without adding new elements in and risking messing everything up. People died that way.
Or the apocalypse came, but really, once you had seen three of those come and go it was hard to get as excited about it.
Having been focused on her charms and remembering little details about them, playing it over and over in her head seemed to help, Lia was surprised to see a group of people flooding down the stairs. "Are they here?" It was a redundant question, but she still asked it before leaning up in her chair to get a better view. Aha. She knew that brunette. "Yasmine!" Which made that Conor. Had she ever been on a mission with Conor? Cannot recall. Know he's the ice power guy. "Look, we got you caffeine!" Caffeine came first. Even before discussing what they were going to do or sharing how it had gone when they went to rendezvous with the ship crew who thought they were going to be taking on some whaling vessel. Then we can talk about how we're saving mermaids. Mermaids! Lia had grown up on stories of them.
