Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:garrett, jenna, just finished

Who: Garrett Pitt and Jenna Ansboro
What: Date!
When: Sunday afternoon. 2PM.
Where: his brother's restaurant, to start
Rating: PG? Pretty tame, I'm sure.
Status: Incomplete

Garrett wasn't exactly sure what he was doing with Jenna. He enjoyed her company, true, but it wasn't like he was seriously trying to date her. He wasn't even trying to get laid. He was just.. he didn't know. He'd been teasing her in her journal, but she'd seemingly taken his words seriously and he did want to go to the reading she'd suggested. Besides, they were friends. It wasn't like he hated the idea of spending some time with her.

That didn't explain his asking her to lunch before the reading, though. He supposed he shouldn't think too much about it. They'd have a nice time, regardless, he was sure.

He'd made reservations for 2 and he was already seated at their table, waiting for her to arrive. The hostess had, of course, been given Jenna's name and had been instructed to bring the girl to the table once she arrived.

A bottle of wine was already positioned on the table - a small booth in one of the quieter corners of the place - next to a pair of glasses. Garrett might be underage, but dining at his brother's restaurant did have it's advantages.

Having gone to sleep very, very late the night before, Jenna had woken up far later than she normally did. Sitting up with a start, she grabbed her PDA and noticed the time. It was just after noon and she was supposed to be meeting Garrett at two. Going about the room in a frenzy, she took out her outfit and inspected it. It wasn't completely wrinkle free, but with a little steam it should do.

Jumping in the shower, she made it quick. Pulling her hair up and off her shoulders, she curled the ends and lightly brushed some make-up on. Donning her black pants and leopard print shoes, she headed for the door. It was 1:45 when she finally hailed a cab and was on her way to the restaurant Garrett had suggested. When she stepped out of the cab and paid the driver, she swallowed nervously. This place looked expensive whereas her portion of the date was free. When she'd chosen it, she'd thought it was more thoughtful or meaningful, not so much important about how much it cost.

Heading inside, she was in awe. The place was really nice. Having given her name at the hostess stand, she was led back to a corner booth. At first, she thought she was being brought to the wrong table when she saw the bottle of wine. However, as soon as she saw Garrett she blushed and smiled. "I'm sorry I'm late. My alarm never went off this morning."

Garrett rarely thought about money when making plans. It wasn't like he needed to worry about how much something was going to cost. It also wasn't like he actually had to pay for things at his brother's restaurant, anyway.

He stood up to greet her with a light kiss to her cheek and help her with her coat as she arrived at their table. "Don't worry about it," he assured her. "I haven't been waiting for that long."

He flashed her a smile as they were seated. "You look nice," he added as he poured them each a glass of wine and handed her one of the menus.

Smiling more genuinely now, Jenna was happy to hear that he hadn't been waiting that long. As he helped her off with her coat, she nodded. "Oh, that's good then." Once they were seated, she blushed as he complimented her.

"Thank you..." Biting her lip, Jenna was used to drinking small amounts of wine with dinner at home. However, this felt a little... naughty since they weren't actually of age and were out in public. Taking a sip of the wine, she moved it about her mouth and breathed in the scent from the glass as she did. Swallowing, she nodded her approval.

"Good choice. That was an excellent year." Her family owned a vineyard and winery, of course she knew her wines. Looking over the menu, she decided that she wanted one of everything, but settled with a shrimp dish. "So did you enjoy your weekend home?"

Garrett nodded his agreement as he set his glass down. It had been an excellent choice in wines, not that he was surprised. This place was run by a Pitt. Of course it only had the best of everything.

"It was quite pleasant," he answered. He told her a little bit about his time with his father, but soon their waiter had arrived to take their order. Garrett paused in their conversation long enough for them to order, but his focus settled on Jenna again once the waiter walked away from the table.

"What about you? Have you been enjoying your weekend in the city?" he asked.

Listening intently to Garrett as he described his weekend at home with his father, she nodded when appropriate. After the waiter took their orders, Jenna sat back some and relaxed a little more. Taking another sip of her wine, she bit her lip. Should she tell him about the club? Better to be honest, even if vague, than to lie.

"It's been amazing. I visited with my brother Friday night and again on Saturday. I dragged him with Matt and me to the Philharmonic. Anne-Sophie Mutter was performing, so that was incredible. Then last night a few of us went out to a club and danced for a bit. All in all, the weekend in New York, so far, has been lovely."

Garrett nodded politely as she talked about her weekend. He couldn't say that clubbing was his idea of a good time, but if she'd had a good time, he supposed that was all that mattered. "Good, I'm glad you're having a good time," he returned with a smile.

They continued to converse through their meal, talking about their visits with family and their classes at Hiatt-Wellerstein. They didn't have any classes in common this semester, but he'd taken Shakespeare last term, and the man was easily one of his favorite authors, so they talked at length about the what she was currently studying in that course.

The time flew by and before he knew it, their meal was finished and it was time they should be heading to the reading. After briefly stopping in the kitchen to say hello to his brother, he returned to her side, helping her into her coat and holding out his arm for her to take.

"Shall we?" he asked, nodding toward the exit.

The lunch seemed to fly by and before she knew it, they were getting ready to leave for the reading. The wine with lunch had definitely helped her minor hangover, so now that she was renewed, she smiled more freely. Taking Garrett's arm, they headed outside.

"Want to just walk over? The air will be refreshing." Walking arm in arm to the reading, they arrived with plenty of time to find nice seats. Leaning over, she whispered to Garrett not wanting to disturb anyone else. "So have you actually read Ulyssesys?"

Walking sounded like a decent enough idea and Garrett nodded at her. It was a fairly short walk and soon enough they were finding their seats. He nodded again at her question.

"I have. It's very good," he answered. He was actually very much looking forward to this reading and it was nice to be able to share it with someone he knew would appreciate it.

"Have you?" he questioned her in return.

Smiling at Garrett, she was enjoying herself. It also didn't hurt that the wine was making her smile about lots of things. "I have. Took me awhile. Can't say I'm a huge Joyce fan, but I've read it. So this should be fun."

A few moments later, the reader started. Sitting back, Jenna crossed her legs towards him and sat a little closer. That way if they wanted to make any comments here or there they wouldn't disturb those around them.

Garrett fell silent as the reading started, not wanting to miss any of it. He'd been looking forward to this since Jenna had mentioned it and he smiled as he listened, occasionally glancing over at her to see her reactions to everything.

When it was finished, he turned his attention more fully back to her and flashed her a smile. "I'm really glad you invited me to this," he told her as he waited for the people around him to move from their seats. He wasn't in any hurry and it made more sense to wait a moment and avoid the crowd.

The reading had been nice and people all around them were discussing things now. Slowly though, people started to leave and when Garrett turned to her and smiled she couldn't help but feel like this had actually been a really great date. "I'm glad you accepted. It wouldn't have been the same to come here alone."

Shrugging, she stood up. Stretching a little, it felt good to be standing again, even if her feet were killing her. She'd get to rest them on the bus. Looking at her watch, she saw that she should really get back to the hotel soon. Missing the bus would be a very bad idea. "I really did have a great time today, Garrett. Thank you for lunch."

He extended his arm to her as they stood to go, flashing her another charming smile. "It was my pleasure, Jenna," he assured her. Once she was ready, he started to walk her out towards the exit. Pulling out his phone, he gave his driver a call to let him know they were ready.

"I'll give you a ride back to the hotel," he offered. There was no sense in her walking or taking a cab when he would be happy to take her, himself.

Garrett's smiles were just too charming sometimes. She absolutely couldn't help but blush at him when he smiled at her. Taking his arm again, Jenna walked out with him. Biting her lip, she nodded at him. "Thank you."

When the car pulled up, he opened the door. Stepping in, she scooted over and made room for Garrett to follow. A few moments later, they pulled up to the hotel. Turning in her seat, she smiled warmly at him. "You always know how to make a girl feel special. Thank you for everything, really."

"You're welcome." He smiled again. It was almost cute how she blushed each time he smiled at her.

The ride to her hotel passed quickly and soon they were pulling up outside. Her returned her smile. "You don't need to thank me, Jenna," he assured her, "I'm glad we did this. We should definitely do it again sometime.

He paused very briefly before leaning in and lightly brushing her lips over hers.

Nodding, Jenna smiled. "Definitely. This was a lot of fun." Before she could move or say anything more, Garrett brushed his lips over hers. She was too stunned to move away, but she didn't exactly deepen it or kiss back.

When her brain finally caught up with the actions, she sat back slowly. Biting her lip, she felt like a slut. That was three guys she'd kissed. Or... two guys she had kissed and three that had kissed her. "I... that... Garrett..." Looking down at her hands, she shook her head.

"This shouldn't happen."

Garrett hadn't been planning on the kiss, himself, but the mood had struck him and he'd gone with it. He'd definitely not expected her to resist or pull away, though, and the surprise was obvious on his face when she did.

"I'm sorry.." Maybe the hurt on his face wasn't quite genuine, but Garrett wasn't used to being told no and he certainly wasn't above making her feel guilty for it.

"I thought you'd.. you said this was a date, so I thought.." he dropped his gaze, looking down at his lap.

A look of pure horror was on her face as Garrett's face showed he was hurt. What was she supposed to do? Biting her lip, she went to put her hand on his hand. "I'm sorry, Garrett. I... I didn't mean to lead you on or anything."

Looking around, she bit her lip again. Rubbing her temple, she scooted closer to him. "This was a date... I just... Right now I'm not sure how I feel about who and I shouldn't be complicating things."

Garrett pulled a hand up to her cheek when she scooted closer. He raised his gaze back to hers, schooling his expression into one of pure understanding. Even if he didn't get anywhere right now, he didn't want to ruin his future chances if he should decide to pursue something later on. Or, worse yet, risk their friendship when that could possibly come in handy later on.

"It's okay, Jenna," he assured her, rubbing his thumb over her cheek. "I mean, I like you a lot, but.. I wouldn't want you to do anything you don't feel comfortable with."

Why did everyone keep making her feel like Garrett wasn't as nice as he was? He'd never been mean to her. In fact, he was taking this whole ordeal better than she thought she was handling it. Pressing her head into his hand than rubbed over her cheek, she smiled at him.

"Thank you for being so understanding and considerate, Garrett. And... I like you too, I just need some time to think about everything." Pulling back from the intimacy, she turned and opened the car door. Stepping out, she leaned down and looked in at him.

"I'll see you later. Have a safe trip back to school."
