It was still only seven o'clock. Hmm. Michael looked from the alarm clock on his desk and back to the story he was editing. He still had two hours to kill before he was going to go out with Lexy. For a moment, pen raised, he wondered whether or not sneaking out on a school night was a good idea. Probably not, especially considering that he'd already been expelled from one school, and if it happened again, his parents would soon be planning his funeral. But they weren't as uptight at Hiatt-Wellerstein as they were at Andover, and Lexy seemed to get away with it enough. Plus, he had another pick up to make. It was sad the things that he did for pot.

He returned to the print-out of the story, reading over it, moving occasional commas and nitpicking word choice. He really hated editing, but it was required by teachers, and eventually, it would be required by editors. He liked to just write things down. Put his words out there, and then be done with them. Plus, he wasn't terribly good at self-analysis and criticism, and that didn't help matters. The whole process made him think that perhaps this whole "writing" thing wasn't for him. Not that he knew what else he would do with his life. Maybe he could use writing as a fuel for social change. A kind of white, wealthy Arundhati Roy.

Rolling over onto his back, Michael propped his papers up on his knees and contemplated the entire project. Maybe it wasn't even worth editing... But he definitely didn't have time to spit anything out in the next two hours and then edit that. He sighed. Schoolwork was so frustrating.

Forever biting her lip, Jenna had paced her room for the last half an hour. She wasn't sure if going down to Michael's room was a good idea or not, especially since she hadn't really talked to him about it more from yesterday. Besides, what was going down there for? Just to make out on his bed this time? Just to feel his lips and hands on her? Oh yea, because that didn't make her sound like a wanton.

Jumping up and down a few times, she shook out her hands like she was getting ready to do some sort of battle. It was too early to really change into pajamas and stupid to change her outfit completely. Looking back on it, Jenna probably shouldn't have worn the snug jean skirt and off the shoulder sweater today, but with Addi's help the hickie was completely covered up as if it never existed.

Grabbing a towel, she ran it over the mark on her neck. If they ended up kissing again she didn't want him to be tasting caked on make-up, that was for sure. Slipping her heels back on, Jenna finally built up the courage to slip down the stairs to his room. Knocking on the door, she waited.

Normally, Michael would have felt a slight pang of annoyance at being interrupted, but he was frustrated enough at editing his story that he didn't particularly mind the distraction. He didn't move, though, instead letting his red pen hover over a the word "effervescent." He wasn't sure about it. It seemed very purple prose, like something you might see in a book like Twilight. He shuddered at the thought and crossed it out, intending to rack his brain for a replacement later.

"Come in," he shouted. "Door's open."

Hearing Michael's voice letting her know the door was unlocked, she looked both ways down the hall before slipping in. Something about going into his room without him opening the door felt a little... naughty or wrong. Then again that could just be her feeling stupid for assuming something would happen. Just because he had suggested... or she had suggest... whoever had suggested that they be friends with benefits, didn't mean something had to happen every time they hung out.

Closing the door behind her, Jenna turned slowly to look at Michael. In the process she noted that Avi was again absent from the room. "Hey..." Crossing the room to his desk chair, she sat down and crossed her legs at the knee, which she never did.

"Busy? I can come back later."

Michael watched her sit down with vague interest. He was still searching for a replacement for "effervescent." None was coming to mind, but now he was distracted, so it made a degree of sense. He wondered if this was going to be another one of those awkward conversations like last night. Michael wasn't good at relationships, and he didn't really have a desire for one. And if that made him a jerk... well. He didn't want to hurt Jenna's feelings. He liked her as a person and he thought that she was cute. But the idea of having a girlfriend? Not that appealing. Plus, the idea that things were kind of one-sided made him a little uncomfortable. Dating would open up things like one-month anniversaries and "I love yous" and things like that. Things he wasn't that intent on worrying about.

"No, I was kind of working, but I'm not getting anywhere," he told her, and put the cap back on his pen. "So I don't really mind the interruption."

Smiling when he said he didn't mind the interruption, Jenna played with the hem of her sweater. Sitting forward, she crossed her arms over her knee and let them hand in the air closer to him. "I can be a good distraction. Or.. Well, that didn't come out right."

Blushing she sat back some and uncrossed her legs. Recrossing them at the ankle, which was more comfortable, she looked Michael in the eye. "What I meant was... we usually find something to do when we're together, so my company could be a good distraction." Had that really sounded any better?

It was hard to resist the temptation to look up her skirt, now that she had uncrossed her legs, but Michael did so. It would be rude to look, he told himself as he sat up and leaned against the wall next to his bed, stretching his legs out. He set down his papers on the bed next to him, tossing the pen somewhere near his pillow. If it weren't for Jenna's blush, he probably wouldn't have even thought of the innuendos in those statements.

He raised an eyebrow at her. "Did you have something specific in mind?" he asked.

Smirking at his raised eyebrow, she shook her head. "Nothing in particular. I could always help you with your homework or something... Be an extra set of eyes maybe?" Standing up, she made her way over to his bed. Picking up his papers, Jenna slipped off her heels and curled up on the bed.

Looking around for the pen he'd tossed, she let her knee bump his leg. Finding the pen, she sat back and looked up at Michael. "That is if you want me too."

"Er..." Was the first response out of his mouth, an unintended reaction that probably sounded all wrong. Jenna could probably relate in that she likely wouldn't want someone to listen to her scratching out some piece she'd just started practicing, and Michael felt slightly self-conscious at the idea of her reading his unfinished work. But then again... He kind of doubted that she'd be terribly critical. Not as much as it would get ripped apart in workshop, anyway.

"Sure, you can read it. But keep in mind that it is definitely not a finished product." He crossed his legs Indian-style and repressed an urge to gulp.

One thing Jenna didn't want was to make him uncomfortable. As an artist herself, she completely understood the anxiety that went along with someone hearing or reading a rough draft. Looking him over one last time, she wanted to make sure Michael was truly okay with it. Satisfied that he was, she started reading.

Pointing out a few things here or there, she smiled when she came across the scratched out 'effervescent.' Looking up, she wracked her brain for a better word. Pointing to it, Jenna looked up into Michael's eyes. "What about irrepressible instead of effervescent?"

"I don't really know that irrepressible works, but you can write it down, I guess," Michael said. He tended to be picky about his words, especially when he'd chosen one that he found really didn't work. If only he had such a gift with his regular interactions, perhaps this whole "Jenna situation" would be less... awkward. And he'd stop putting his foot in his mouth. But then, writing something was much easier than living it.

He gave a vague sound of disinterest from the back of his throat and flopped over, his head laying down at the foot of his bed, and stretched his legs over her lap.

Shrugging, Jenna wrote it down. "What about expansive?" Looking hopeful towards Michael, she suppressed a sigh of contentment when he stretched his legs over her lap. That gave her a good feeling that maybe they're friendship wouldn't be completely lost if the whole benefits aspect didn't work out.

Stretching to put the paper on his desk, which was now behind his head, she managed to get on the desk safely. Stretching out next to him, she let their legs tangle slightly. "I'm glad to see that we wont forever be awkward..."

"Maybe." Michael didn't want to sound like a jerk for rebuffing her suggestions... It was just one of those things that would require thought. A lot of thought. Despite the chant of don't agonize, don't agonize, don't agonize, he was still going to agonize. It was his curse, as a literary arts kid. Agonizing. And being stereotyped as a self-centered, depressive type.

"I thought that effervescent was rather... Twilight-esque," he told her. He didn't comment on what she'd said about being awkward. It would be awkward to say anything more about it, he decided.

Resting her head on her elbow, Jenna laughed a little at his comment. "While the book wasn't bad, it definitely had it's faults. However, I don't think effervescent is overly Twilight-esque. Even if it was, sometimes certain words just work and can't be changed."

Shrugging while laying on her side, Jenna's necklace shifted and got caught under her other arm. Seeing as it was a wrap-around necklace, it kind of choked her momentarily. Bringing her free hand to her throat, she loosened it and then rested her hand on his chest. "So you really haven't read Ulysseys?"

"The writing in Twilight leaves a lot to be desired. The sophomores here at H-W write better. And the plot..." Michael shook his head, cringeing slightly. It was probably best not to continue on an anti-Twilight diatribe, though, just in case she was a fan (you never knew with teenaged girls anymore).

It was kind of weird when she put her hand on his chest. It was definitely a romantic thing to do. "No. I figure that I'll save Joyce for my greater days."

"Oh, I agree at least with the writing aspect. I like the plot of the first book, but after awhile, you knew what was going to happen so it got old fast." The hand on his chest wasn't meant to be romantic. She'd been trying to find some way to make physical contact aside from with their legs and that had been all she could come up with.

Licking her bottom lip, she tugged it in and bit down on it softly. "Greater days? As in when you're old and bored with nothing better to do? What if your own writing gets to be so well known they start comparing you? How are you supposed to defend yourself if you don't know the competition?"

"You say that as though I don't read enough as it is." Michael reached over and tapped Jenna on the nose, playfully. And it was true, he did read plenty as it was. After all, that was really the best way to learn about writing. But he didn't really think that anyone would ever be comparing him to Joyce, and if they did, it would probably be an erroneous comparison. He opened his mouth to say so.

"I don't think anybody's going to be calling me Joycean. Joyce-esque? Anyway, I don't write about middle-class Irishmen on odysseys. Or mimic his style, for that matter."

"You say that as though reading is bad." Raising her eyebrow with a smirk, she laughed when he tapped her nose. Listening to his little speech, Jenna nodded and shook her head along with it. Shrugging again, she rolled her eyes playfully.

"You never know, Mr. MacGillivray." Rolling onto her back, she pulled her arm out from under head and rolled her wrist. It cracked a little, but that was good. Resting both of her hands on her stomach now, she stared at the ceiling. Quirking her eyebrow, she realized something.

"Your bed is right under mine."

Michael looked up at the ceiling and was suddenly glad that he didn't have a poster of some half-naked girl up there. Not that it was something he'd ever really considered doing, because he thought the idea of getting off to an actual photo that was looking down at you somewhat... creepy, as though Angelina Jolie or someone could sense on the other side of the country that someone, somewhere, was thinking about her and masturbating.

"Do you have a poster of Brad Pitt or something on your ceiling?" he asked. He had never looked. He guessed the answer was no.

Raising her head, she looked down at him some with a raised eyebrow. Shaking her head, she laughed and rested it back on the bed. Jenna was definitely not into Brad Pitt. Sighing, she wondered where that question had come from.

"First of all, I am far too short to ever reach my ceiling even if I stood on my bed or my chair. Secondly, putting a poster on your ceiling just doesn't make sense to me. And lastly, Brad Pitt does not do it for me."

Michael was a curious enough person by nature that the question had just sprung into his mind and he had asked it. Perhaps that was a bad thing, but he was of the mind that questioning was a good thing. He certainly did enough of it himself. It didn't surprise him that she'd said no. After all, when he bothered to give the matter any thought (only for the briefest of moments), he decided that she probably didn't get herself off, and thus the point of a poster on your ceiling would be moot.

He told her matter-of-factly, "It would be so that you could look at it while you masturbate."

Blushing red, Jenna rolled back up onto her side and just stared down at him. Was he serious? "Oh. My. God, Michael!" If he wanted to try and shock her, he definitely had. Talking about it in innuendos over their journals was one thing, but to say it in person?

Flopping back down on the bed, she stared at the ceiling. Calming down enough, she decided to try and shock him... And the best part about it was that it was the complete and honest truth. "I take care of business in the shower, thank you. Where's your poster?"

Fortunately for Michael, being shocked meant that, instead of turning bright pink, he burst out laughing. It was an easier reaction to deal with -- very rarely he was so embarrassed he actually blushed. But he was shocked enough to laugh, both at her frankness and at the fact that he had been wrong. "No poster. I don't want to feel like some half-naked girl is watching me get off."

He shook his head and blinked a few times, trying to come to terms with what she'd just said. "The shower, really? That's very limiting. You might have to shower twice a day."

Biting her lip, Jenna wasn't sure if she should really be divulging this much information but it felt good to be able to talk to him. Though, she was a little put off by his laughing. Did he think she didn't like to feel good?

"Understandable, I suppose... As for the shower. No, once a day is enough. I just make sure that it feels good multiple times before I'm done." It really was a good thing that she wasn't looking at him as she said any of that. If she had been, Jenna would not have been able to say any of it.

Michael didn't think that Jenna didn't like to feel good, as it were, but he didn't see her as the sort to go about getting off in the shower... Let alone talk about the whole affair. In mixed company. It hadn't been that long since he'd had to explain the term "cowgirl" to her (with moving pictures, of course). He wondered if maybe he was corrupting her, and felt a little bit guilty. But not that guilty.

He had to try not to laugh again. "Multiple times before you're done?" he asked. "Alas, that is a talent which I have not."

It wasn't so much that he was corrupting her, Jenna had found out about the pleasure she could give herself a few years ago. At first she hadn't really realized what she was doing, but through conversations, magazine articles, and commercials for some products she realized. As for telling Michael, she had no idea what had gotten into her.

Blushing again, she couldn't help but smirk. "So it seems I'm better than you at some things."

Oh, the blush. If this entire topic of conversation was embarrassing, why was she forging onward with it? Michael didn't know. Girls were so confusing. Just when you thought you had one figured out, more or less, they went and pulled something like this on you and threw you for the loop again.

"That's not better than me. That's simple biology," Michael told her. And god help him if he had to explain that to her.

Couldn't he let her win something sometime? Not that there was anything to really win, but couldn't she have something? Rolling onto her side, she scooted herself up (or down, whichever way you look at it) the bed a little. Pressing her body against his, she moved her face very close to his.

"You poor thing..." Leaning down, she brushed her lips against his. In her head, she cheered a little. She'd built up the courage to actually make the first move. While she was probably blushing, Jenna didn't really care just now.

The answer to the question of whether or not he could let her win at something... Well, no. For all of his good qualities, Michael did have a somewhat snobby streak that came with being raised in a wealthy environment and always getting what he wanted. He had wondered if the purpose of her venture down to his room was, indeed, a make-out session, and this seemed to confirm it. Leaning up slightly, he returned her kiss.

Jenna hadn't actually intended on a make-out session, but a kiss here or there wasn't a bad thing was it? She'd done her best to help with his homework, they'd had an interesting conversation, and just then it had felt like a nice idea to kiss him. If he really thought all she wanted was to make-out with him, he was wrong. They were friends first and foremost.

When he returned the kiss, she smirked slightly. Running her one hand into the hair just behind his ear, she ran the tip of her tongue along his bottom lip and then kissed it again. Pulling back from the kiss before it deepened too much, she smiled down at him. "Would it be terribly bad of me if I just left now? Would that be considered teasing?"

Michael licked his lips and frowned. Teasing? Um. Well, one kiss wasn't exactly his idea of being a tease. A lengthly make-out session with groping and grinding and then no follow through? That would be teasing. He wondered why she even wanted to know.

"Uh, no, not really." He made a slightly confused face.

Pursing her lips, Jenna sighed. "Oh... okay..." She had to admit she had seen his frown, but when he licked his lips it made her want to kiss him again. Maybe this was a bad idea. The more she kissed him, the more she wanted to keep kissing him. It was making her into a wanton after all. Then again, they were just kissing, so there was no real harm in that, was there?

Pressing her body against his again, she lowered her head to his and placed another kiss on his lips. A part of her wanted to move to his neck and leave a mark on his as he had left on hers, but she suppressed the urge. Moving her leg slowly up, she rubbed his leg with hers.
